She has been interviewed by the LA Times, the NY Post and now this. She is certainly opening herself up to a lot of harassment, as things are not yet at the same stage in the US as they are here (though they are not good in the UK, either, but better).

oldwomanwhoruns · 18/04/2022 07:39

Hmm, a bit of an odd article? It does read a bit like a press release for Anderson. Who is mtf , which is obfuscated in the article by use of the female descriptors throughout.

And how about this paragraph?
Greg Abbott, the Republican governor of Texas, has described gender surgery on minors as “child abuse”, despite medical experts saying it is almost unheard of. Most care for transgender children includes social transitioning and puberty blockers.

  • oh so that's ok then. Just give the kids puberty blockers, that's not child abuse, is it...

I had thought that The Times had a better grip of this issue than this.

Hoardasurass · 18/04/2022 08:09

Does anyone else get the massive arse covering vib from this dr who up until recently has been advocating and profiting from childhood transition and even taking part in I am Jazz.
I know that I might be cynical but at 71 I'd guess that getting malpractice insurance to operate on any patient would be difficult let alone this cohort (high rate of complications) so will be required to retire soon and is looking to protect themselves from the coming backlash.

OldCrone · 18/04/2022 08:13

Anderson looks to me like someone who can see the lawsuits looming on the horizon and is trying to get into position as a whistleblower rather than a perpetrator.

Or if I'm kinder, perhaps Anderson has genuinely only just realised that teenage girls grappling with their changing bodies and/or being same-sex attracted really don't have anything in common with Anderson's own experience as a late-transitioning heterosexual middle-aged male with children. But that would imply that Anderson isn't very bright, which doesn't seem to be the case.

veronicagoldberg · 18/04/2022 08:46

Covering his back.

"Dr" Sidhbh Gallagher will most probably be doing the same at some point soon.

KittenKong · 18/04/2022 08:50

I can’t see the piece - is this the trans woman doctor who seems to have just realised that ‘oh sh*t…’?

IcakethereforeIam · 18/04/2022 09:08

That's the one, or, at least, one of them.

LittleWhingingWoman · 18/04/2022 09:13

If practicing on children didn't give them stop to pause at the start,
It's only going to be money and threats to their income that will stop them.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 18/04/2022 09:17

Is the Gallagher lady not a real doctor?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 18/04/2022 09:19

No. And yes, arse covering with an eye to future beatification as the Transwoman who saw what was happening and saved the poor confused kids.

Not cynical. Not me, sir!

Crcohetmonster · 18/04/2022 09:23

So was happy to give out blockers etc like candy until the tide started turning. Now wanting to be the hero. Call me cynical but if you thought this, why not speak out years ago.

ResisterRex · 18/04/2022 09:26

I posted this on another thread but some here might like to see it too:

reduxx.info/exclusive-florida-lawyer-seeking-information-from-gender-surgeon-patients/

The change in direction does seem to collide with lawsuits in the pipeline...

PermanentTemporary · 18/04/2022 09:30

Dr Gallagher is a real surgeon, who has chosen to use unregulated media heavily used by teenagers and young adults to advertise specific types of surgery.

WhiteFire · 18/04/2022 09:33

This will only be dismantled from within, if this is the first flame then I am not overly bothered by the motivations at this point.

RoyalCorgi · 18/04/2022 09:34

I had thought that The Times had a better grip of this issue than this.

It's written by their LA correspondent who, although British, is probably more influenced by what people are saying in the US. It's not clear whether he interviewed Anderson or whether the story is based on the LA Times interview.

Whatwouldscullydo · 18/04/2022 09:36

Anyone who has ever been involved in any of this should have the guts and the decency to stand up and take what's coming. Not be given platforms to back out and clear their conscience. Children are being left infertile and witg the bone densities of 80 year olds. You wanted this. You own it. The children deserve the truth and fir the adult drs to take responsibility

Artichokeleaves · 18/04/2022 10:04

Hm. It reminds me somewhat of Mermaids' sudden interest in detransitioners and that they should be the group controlling the narrative and what that group tell people that meet these very particular needs.

Whole lot of people starting to see what is coming and positioning themselves strategically to avoid responsibility and ensure the income stream goes on.

ResisterRex · 18/04/2022 10:09

There was this former thread on the sudden interest in detransitioners

Nancy tweets about "gender affirming care" for detransitioners www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4524139-nancy-tweets-about-gender-affirming-care-for-detransitioners

100% agree with your first paragraph. This person is reversing very fast, having doubtlessly done very well professionally and financially.
FrancescaContini · 18/04/2022 10:17

@PermanentTemporary

Dr Gallagher is a real surgeon, who has chosen to use unregulated media heavily used by teenagers and young adults to advertise specific types of surgery.
She needs scrupulous investigation. It can’t come soon enough.
SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 18/04/2022 11:24

@WhiteFire

This will only be dismantled from within, if this is the first flame then I am not overly bothered by the motivations at this point.
I agree.

But it will, at some future date, really fucking annoy me when the real history becomes a whitewashed mess of "transwomen saving the youth because women couldn't, wouldn't, didn't"

IvyTwines · 18/04/2022 11:35

And history will be so much easier to whitewash as much of it is now only in digital, not real world archives.

IvyTwines · 18/04/2022 11:43

But for the digital record, here are the results right now from the leading LGBTQ+ mental health support charity the Trevor Project (you know, the one Daniel Radcliffe is involved promoting) for those young people who turn to them for support with detransitioning:

Huh?

IvyTwines · 18/04/2022 11:52

And here's when you search Stonewall and Mermaids: Stonewall, two results, dismissive and quoting a dodgy 'stat', Mermaids, nothing.

So don't let them tell you in 6 or 12 months time they were always cautious, always supportive, always gave children the full facts, the whole picture, because they didn't.
