Oh, I'm so bored.

Here they go... twitter.com/MonsoonUK/status/1513811068686155778?s=20&t=zQnlx9T5PprC0S2v-ECHxQ

Another one off the list. Who do they think spends lots of money with them?

I understand things like swimming room changing rooms where it's communal changing and showers, but shop changing rooms where there are individual changing rooms isn't the same. And as I said, I worked at Gap 20 years ago so it's not a new thing that's been taken away.

‘I understand things like swimming room changing rooms where it's communal changing and showers, but shop changing rooms where there are individual changing rooms isn't the same.’

I understand what you’re saying but it is dependent on the shop situation. I’ve been in stores where there’s an attendant, lockable cubicles, doors that start at the floor. No problems. I don’t care who uses them.

I’ve also been in unstaffed areas where all that separates you from the rest of a quite dingy changing room is a curtain, and it’s not unreasonable to make those single sex.

KittenKong · 13/04/2022 21:45

Some women don’t like it. Some women can’t use them for various reasons. Why have a woman’s changing room of you allow males to use them?

Why is it now a gas for males to try to access them then pitch a fit when they are told no? Then kick up a fuss and organise like ons to the wicked women who said ‘no’?

LK1972 · 13/04/2022 21:52

@wishitwasaduvetday

I don't really understand the fuss about changing rooms where there are cubicles. I worked at Gap from 1998 - 2004 and it was always mixed changing rooms with curtains on the cubicles. I don't recall one complaint. So how is it an issue 20 years later?
It's because of cases like this: www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/swaleh-chaudhry-metropolitan-police-officer-guilty-voyeurism-primark-southside-wandsworth-child-abuse-b991958.html?amp
LK1972 · 13/04/2022 21:56

Not just any male, a male policeman, and the stuff they found on his hard drive is the worst. This year. But hurray for mix-sexed changing rooms Hmm

BoodleBug51 · 13/04/2022 21:57

Aw the poor man wanted to play with the pretty dresses and was told No. So he kicks off on social media and gets a reward. And their main customer base is patted on the head and told to be nice.

I won't be buying from them again. And probably 30% of my middle age wardrobe is from Monsoon.

KittenKong · 13/04/2022 22:01

He was told to wait! He wasn’t humiliated, pointed at and laughed at. He wasn’t thrown into the street by a security guard yelling ‘pervert! Peeping Tom!’ He was asked to wait to enter a place he had no right in entering.

wishitwasaduvetday · 13/04/2022 22:02

@LK1972 voyeurism offences can happen anywhere. You can find an article to argue pretty much everything.
For example ... carrots should be banned from schools to prevent this... torontosun.com/2015/10/25/school-says-baby-carrot-used-as-weapon

I suppose you'd better boycott Gap too. (Although there's been no issues for 20 years).

DialSquare · 13/04/2022 22:03

@Helleofabore

ooops!!! Sorry Moley! I only ever see their stuff retweeted so I just assumed. But you know what they say about making assumptions...
Apologies from me too! No comments about mole genital inspections please!
KittenKong · 13/04/2022 22:04

What are you missing? It was a woman’s changing area - they allow anyone in because they say they want to? What’s the point?

wishitwasaduvetday · 13/04/2022 22:10

@KittenKong it doesn't say "women changing room" above the door? Unless your argument is that it's women clothes... but then you'll upset all the mums who get offended by childrens clothes being separated into boys and girls as clothes are just clothes right?!!

They don't do bra fittings in monsoon. The changing room is no different from how Gap changing rooms have been for decades. Actually monsoon have better curtains on theirs!

Technology has moved on significantly for a start.
LK1972 · 13/04/2022 22:12

Yeah, because that other story from 2015 in Virginia, and the other from this fucking month and around the corner from me.

And you're comparing those two stories, did you read what I sent?

It’s a woman’s clothing shop. Who would you expect the chanting rooms to be for?

Sorry, that was for wishwhat

Gap doesn't have shops in the UK any more, does it?

wishitwasaduvetday · 13/04/2022 22:28

@LK1972 did you read my reply? So because an incident involving a pervert paedophile (not a trans person wanting to try on a dress) happened in a town close to you all shared changing rooms should be banned?! Should probably ban all men from childrens play grounds too by that rationale.

wishitwasaduvetday · 13/04/2022 22:33

@PonyPatter44 my local one closed down about 6 months ago so if they have now gone it's very recent. But a lot of the high street has gone. All of the Arcadia brands for a start! They never had mixed changing rooms for the decades they had stores in uk. My point is this is not a new thing. Pick your battles. Fight to save the spaces where it makes a real impact... sports, hospital wards, swimming room showers... these need to be single sex. Shop changing rooms being mixed isn't an issue.

NotAGirl · 13/04/2022 22:33

Since we all have free choice about how we respond to Monsoon’s centring of Charlie’s male at birth and still displaying male entitlement hurty feelings and their move to mixed sex changing rooms I have also added Monsoon and Accessorise to my personal list of shops I won’t be shopping in anymore. All the money I’m saving is going to the crowdfunders for womens rights.

LK1972 · 13/04/2022 22:33

I don't use mixed sex spaces where I undress, if at all possible, due to personal experience of male sex over 50 years and stories like these.

If Monsoon confirm their changing rooms are mixed I won't shop there, like I haven't in GAP since encountering men in changing room.

This is all about personal choice, if you don't care about stripping off next to men, good for you, spare a thought for those different to you.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 13/04/2022 22:39

Gap no longer has any UK stores, so a boycott would be a bit pointless?

wishitwasaduvetday · 13/04/2022 22:43

@TheAbbotOfUnreason completely ignoring the point being that mixed changing rooms have been around for years with no issue.

There have been issues

In all sorts of changing areas…

Except that isn’t true, women are more at risk in mixed sex changing rooms and there is evidence.

OnaBegonia · 13/04/2022 22:50
