So not just females in custody being sexually abused but female officers possibly being forced to strip search males. In any other setting both of these situations would be criminal offences. It would also be interesting to see whether the Equality Impact Assessment done before this policy was formulated, even considered the impact on women in custody and or the female staff being forced to search male prisoners.

I don't know if there was any official guidance in place beforehand but this has happened to me, quite a long while ago (late 00s). I was made to strip search a violent, verbally abusive, very heavily built and fully intact 6foot plus 'woman' and the experience was utterly degrading - and believe me the subject of the search wanted it to be that way. I can only imagine how awful it would be were the roles reversed. Strip searching isn't (usually) done lightly.

I wonder how many Police and Crime Commissioners were even aware of this happening? Fuck’s sake.

I think I might write to the Policing Minister today. It’s bloody appalling.

But why should a fake woman need to be searched by a real woman?

Surely they would be better served by having a fake woman to search them? That would align better with their identity.

There should be male staff trained to say they're women and search men who say they're women and want someone who says they're a woman to search them.

It's utterly illogical to say that they can demand real women.

We need to make it wildly known that if any woman is subjected to this there will be immediate support and help from a crowdfunded lawyer, who will bring an appropriate private prosecution case.

Luckily no male predators are likely to join the police purely to take advantage of a policy that says they are able to strip search females if they mouth some magic words.

Just saw Nancy Kelley on Twitter painting her pastel protest signs on her distressed pine dining room table with her Farrow & Ball walls. Not a single fuck given that somewhere there might be a woman in a prison cell being assaulted by a male police officer as a direct result of her organisation’s lobbying activity, distorting the law and distracting the police from their lawful mandate.

In would dig for any woman who found herself in this position and wanted to take legal action but I'm absolutely fed up of women having to fund this kind of thing, it shouldn't even be happening.

Me too. This is a disgrace. Thank Fuck for the DM (never thought I'd say that). I've contacted Kit Malthouse to express my concerns, however the man is an absolute twat so doubt he will listen.

Yes, this policy is allowing for crimes to be committed by the police against women with impunity.

This is appalling. So a woman will be charged with a crime if she refused to let a trans strip search her, but a female police officer will be forced to strip search a man, if he says he is a transwoman.

So the only actual victims here are women citizens and women police officers. To satisfy male desires.

So far I’m so angry I can’t get past ‘wtf is this?’ and a reference to what Boris said and asking what action they’ll take but I guess that’s be brushed aside!

Plan to right to my MP too. Last time I wrote her reply was all about how proud she is of Tory’s bringing in gay marriage etc and how trans rights are the same but it’ll be interesting to see if shes U turned after this week and Boris’ views.
