I heard this. Well done Nick Robinson and Sharron Davies! I was fist-pumping on their behalf while also attempting to cook breakfast.

Skyellaskerry · 09/04/2022 09:19

Davies concluded with: They [transwomen] won't be excluded from sport though they'll just be excluded from a category where it's not fair.

Great closing statement from Sharron Flowers, clear and accurate, I'm sure we will hear it repeated.

HollowTalk · 09/04/2022 09:22

It sickens me to think of women athletes training all of their lives for their game, only to be knocked out of their rightful place by someone who has grown up with a male body and has had all the advantages (in sport and in life) that come with that. And that rightful place might be first or tenth, that doesn't matter - that was their place.

ControversialOpening · 09/04/2022 09:28

I just don't understand how Ivy keeps repeating there is no evidence that transwomen have an advantage. There is loads!!

Evidence 1: A fat, out of shape bloke starts cycling in his 30s and wins races against super-fit women who have been cycling for their entire careers.

I almost wish somebody would give fatboy his own tv series.

EveSix · 09/04/2022 09:28

Urgh, Oscar Pistorius on FWR. Eye bleach.

MaryAndHerNet · 09/04/2022 09:38

McKinnon...

Wants women to die in grease fires..
Inalso remember something along the lines of them thinking all sexualities beside pansexual are bigotted.

And, not forgetting, they posted a gif of a dancing Skeleton when Magdalen Berns died.

So on and so on.

Why is the BBC giving such a hateful person airtime.

nauticant · 09/04/2022 09:38

A visual explainer:

“On 12 October 2018, she won the world 200-meter sprint record for women in the 35–39 age range,[13] and the next day won the UCI Masters World Track Cycling Championship in the Women's Sprint 35–44 age bracket, becoming the first transgender world champion in track cycling.”

Put the same overweight male person up against 35-44 year old champion male cyclists, and what would happen?

Hopefully that’s where ‘hoist by their own petard’ comes in to play!
watcherintherye · 09/04/2022 09:45

People like VI, that is, not the BBC!

Justkeeppedaling · 09/04/2022 09:46

I thought that was an excellent point. Apparently there is a jockey who is a trans woman but it causes no friction in a sport where Rachel Blackmore has shown that she can compete on equal terms with men

I'd argue that women actually have the advantage in racing because they are lighter

Liveliferun · 09/04/2022 09:50

Well done Sharron yet again.
Notable how TRAs like formerly-Mackinnon literally never mention women - even when Nick asked a direct question about the negative impact on women who train their whole lives only to see a mediocre male swan in. Whereas Sharron and other GC reps are always compassionate in their consideration of transwomen and how they are not and should not be excluded from sport, there is a whole male category wide open for them.

DontAskIDontKnow · 09/04/2022 09:54

I just googled what Veronica Ivy is a doctor of:

PhD from University of Waterloo in Philosophy in 2012, with a thesis entitled "Reasonable Assertions: On Norms of Assertion and Why You Don't Need to Know What You're Talking About".

An actual expert in not knowing what you’re talking about.

I wish Nick Robinson picked up on the ‘legally and medically female’ bit. Where’s the ‘medically’ come from?!?

FemaleAndLearning · 09/04/2022 10:03

Looking forward to hearing this layer. For new comers some pics of Veronica Ivy behind the voice. The one on the podium is when named Rachel McKinnon.

So the average listener can hear for themselves. Sunlight. And my thanks to the lovely Doctor for providing ample evidence.

OldCrone · 09/04/2022 10:06

McKinnon/Ivy's line seemed to be that because Bridges was slower than before due to lower testosterone, that it was appropriate to race in the women's category.

Does that mean that all males with low testosterone (natural or drug induced) should be eligible to race against women? What is the difference between Bridges and any other male?

What is the difference between a man and a transwoman?

Fenlandia · 09/04/2022 10:15

"What is the difference between a man and a transwoman?"

The thing we've never had a decent answer to, ever

MiladyBerserko · 09/04/2022 10:15

Wasn't it McKinnon who said that lesbians would 'learn to cope' with a penis?

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/04/2022 10:16

@Triotriotrio

I just don't understand how Ivy keeps repeating there is no evidence that transwomen have an advantage. There is loads!! Why does no one point this out.

Sharron was great though!

Totally agree. I was shouting at the radio. I really hope that journalists will look at the data to query these assertions.

nettie434 · 09/04/2022 10:17

I think they weigh the jockeys and the horses in racing to minimise the weight differences for both horses and riders. I don't really understand how it works but there is a formula which determines how much extra weight (as in lead weight) the jockey has to ride with. Somebody did once suggest that there this could be applied in other sports but I don't know whether any agreement could be reached.

Zeugma · 09/04/2022 10:19

because Bridges was slower than before due to lower testosterone, that it was appropriate to race in the women's category

It was pity that NR didn’t have a chance to mention the drastically weakened and fragile Emily Bridges’ v v recent - surely inexplicable! - excellent showing in the mens’ race.

But still, it was useful to hear Dr I evading questions and obfuscating wildly, in contrast to Sharon’s completely clear and sensible points.

HollowTalk · 09/04/2022 10:23

Ohh hang on, Ivy is Rachel?

So if you called them Rachel, would that be deadnaming them?

LizzieSiddal · 09/04/2022 10:23

I listened to Ivy and alternated between shouting at the radio and laughing. I’m sure they peaked many people.

Sharron was outstanding as usual. Can’t thank her enough for speaking about this so openly.

Hoardasurass · 09/04/2022 10:26

@justkeeppedaling all jockeys are weighed before every race along with their saddle and then lead weights are added to keep everyone the same weight, they are then weighed with saddle and weights after the race to make sure that they didn't cheat by dropping the weights.
Also the men who compete as jockeys tend to be about 5'2" which should help you understand that we are not talking about average men but those who are way below average. However the real reason that men and women can compete together in equine sports is because its the horse that's doing the work not the rider/jockey

SallyLockheart · 09/04/2022 10:27

@Dimenw

Ivy explaining how angry they are for all the excluded transwomen. NR asked if Ivy also angry for women who have lost places to tw. Ivy appears unable to hear the word "women" because they did not feature in the reply. All about the trans.
Nick asked “do you have any empathy for women who trained for years and want to compete in a fair and equitable competition “. Loads of waffle, waffle and no answer

It was patently clear “Ivy” had no empathy for womens points of view on this. Same old story - the trans activists want dialogue on this but only with no compassion or comprehension of alternative views.
