Owen Jones is truly despicable. What an awful comparison… he clearly has no shame

Ask Tara Hewitt; Catholic, anti abortion, etc, yet for some reason it's not mentioned so much. Maybe it's not even to do with a person's religion or views ...

So: Tara Hewitt is allowed to be anti-abortion, but Caroline Farrow isn't? How come? What is so special about Tara (who has no uterus, fwiw)?

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2022 23:02

@Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople

OJ has gone in hard on the abortion thing the last few days, in desperation, as trans ideology really starts to be uncovered for what it is.

I have to say, of all the tactics trans activists use, the 'nice abortion rights you have there ladies, would be a shame if someone took them away' line is particularly grim.

If i were a cynic I'd say that in a week where there is a fuss about OJ and bullying at the garden and OJ suddenly starts going on about abortion linked to trans rights issues, I'd say 'my how very very American of you to say that, there isn't a chance that you might be looking elsewhere for new careers opportunities now is there?'

If I were a cynic.

Of course I'm not. OJ is only pitching for a US audience because he thinks this is out of the poor goodnes of his heart.... Honest.

What’s it got do to with him

Such a wee creep.

He will never have to consider having a abortion.

Wee creep

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2022 00:00

Tara Hewitt, 30, who works in the Wirral as the boroughs’s equality and diversity advisor said she is pro-life but ‘doesn’t force those views on others.'

Well that's not true. If I don't want an abortion, I don't have an abortion. Tara will never need an abortion and if that's the case, shut up. Don't put it in the paper. Why would you? If it's a personal choice about your own body, STFU.

It's disingenuous. And an equality officer who is pro-forced birth is a bad one.

Furries · 09/04/2022 02:59

LOJ will continue to ramp up the rhetoric. It will all be vile smears re abortion, homophobia, transphobia, right-wing/evangelical extremists.

What he will never do is stop for a moment to think that “hang on, I could be vaguely helpful if I really wanted to”.

He doesn’t give a shit about finding solutions/third spaces etc. He doesn’t give a shit about engaging in a meaningful way. The only thing he gives a shit about is spewing his nonsensical shite far and wide.

And I will never be able to unsee or forget his “look what you made us do” strapline. Blooming gross to paraphrase a line that many perpetrators of DV use.

RedToothBrush · 09/04/2022 03:32

OJ only cares about OJs career.

If he is under pressure at the Guardian, it makes sense for him to step up his rhetoric on this.

In the same way that Farage has gone to the US for money, I believe that OJ will look in the same way.

Especially if the centre ground politically on this issue is becoming more common in the uk.

He isn't as an attractive political commentator if things are shifting in that direction. Why would you employ him? Who else in the UK will employ him, if things go tits up in the UK?

crispsarny · 09/04/2022 03:43

Owen Jones is a grifter.

NurseBernard · 09/04/2022 05:03

Someone needs to ask Owen Jones if he would enter into a relationship, and / or have sex with a man with a vagina and breasts.

My guess is his answer would be a hard no.

So he’s as transphobic as the next person. 🤷🏻‍♀️

RedToothBrush · 09/04/2022 05:50

@crispsarny

Owen Jones is a grifter.
Haha i think that sums it up perfectly.
Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 09/04/2022 09:47

He has got a show streaming today about the trans issue with 3 TRAs (and no GC people obviously). My guess is it will be chock-a-block with references to far right extremism, abortion, white feminism, how this is just like the gay rights movement blah blah blah, and very scant on actual arguments.

They are visibly getting desperate now.

Wednesdayweekend · 09/04/2022 09:52

@MiladyBerserko

Re. Caroline Farrow, you would almost think Catholics were not allowed.

Wasn't there a protection in the Equality Act? Do Catholics, or other 'non progressive' religions get to be 'included' too. Or do they get the women treatment?

I also appreciate the pro-life campaigning Caroline has done as well as raising awareness in the UK of the issue, a debate on abortion is long overdue in this country and the success we have seen these last two weeks where strong women have stood together shows that hopefully it's something we'll see soon.

He's been asked variations on that question and he reacts with outrage.

All of the following is a quoted message and some of the tweets no longer exist.

--

Here is Owen being told by Helen Lewis and Sarah Ditum why women might be suggesting he perform cunnilingus
twitter.com/sarahditum/status/572759950642061312

twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/572758871162241026

Here is Owen later writing about this time: When I wrote about trans rights earlier this year, I encountered one of the angriest and most determined backlashes against anything I have written... I was a misogynist; I was obsessively asked if I would perform cunnilingus on a trans man; female friends who communicated with me were informed I hated women; my trans friends were really “pouty men”; and so on. They do not want trans women in toilets, a cause being championed by the Republican right in the United States.... it educated me about the cruel perverse prejudice that trans people encounter, not simply from the bigoted right, but from supposed progressives too.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/oct/20/trans-transphobia-will-young-brave-man

Here for amusement is when Owen apparently mistook the "compose tweet" 'box for the "Search"

Owen Jones has only recently written his first article on transgenderism. Despite claiming to think transphobia is hateful, Owen Jones was so shocked by a lesbian woman asking him when he last preformed cunnilingus that he tweeted this:

I really want all these men - particularly gay men like OJ - who will never have to make the choice or go through abortion to STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.

How fucking dare you weaponise women's bodies against us? Fuck off Owen you nasty little scrote.

To be fair, as somebody who is seeking surrogacy to procure a child of his own, OJ might argue that he may have a theoretical interest in the topic. I would disagree but I shouldn't think OJ cares about that.

KimikosNightmare · 09/04/2022 10:19

@ScreamingMeMe

Pffft Martina is world famous. LOJ...not so much.

Once again for the people at the back: twitter is not real life

It's so difficult to tell what's parody/ sarcasm and isn't these days

I don't think he's losing much sleep over what an irrelevant tennis player with less than half his followers is saying

That comment must be sarcasm surely?

I mean Martina Navratilova is one of the greatest living sportswomen, indeed sportsperson. People who have no interest at all in sport know who she is- a sort of much nicer and much more decent Maradona.

As for OJ's suggestion that abortion rights are at risk- well they quite obviously aren't in the UK. A large number of those scary Tories voted to keep telemedication; you can't assume those who voted against it are against abortion. Some will have been - some were genuinely concerned about the downside of telemedication. The results of the Scottish Government consultation for example highlighted (and I'm assuming will ignore) responses by obviously anti- abortion lobbyists but still left responses which were clearly not anti-abortion but were genuinely raising concerns simply about the procedure. (Scottish Government hasn't made a decision yet)

As for the , "imagine being on the same side as Boris- ooh how scary" point. Many people are. I vote Conservative and as pointed out Boris has backed and has sent more arms to Ukraine than any other country.

Even turns out that although probably for completely different reasons I'm in complete agreement with Caroline Farrow and Tara Hewitt on surrogacy. Funny old world.

DomesticatedZombie · 09/04/2022 10:21

Good points 're why he'd try to crowbar US abortion into the matter of UK politics. I thought it was just a crass and clumsy analogy, but makes more sense that he's desperately trying to extend a semblance of 'relevance ' to a new audience. The UK has woken up to the bullshit; OJ needs to hunt for more outrage clicks so naturally will turn to the states. How depressingly utilitarian.

DomesticatedZombie · 09/04/2022 10:22

Self justification fallacy becomes a way of life for some.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 09/04/2022 10:27

I don't think he's losing much sleep over what an irrelevant tennis player with less than half his followers is saying

Martina is a lesbian icon.

Rainbowshit · 09/04/2022 10:35

So relevance and worth is measured in social media followers is it?

The history books will show:
Martina Navratilova one of the greatest female tennis players of all time.

Owen Jones had over 1m followed on Twitter.

What an achievement Owen, no wonder he's so proud of himself /s

JellySaurus · 09/04/2022 10:42

a debate on abortion is long overdue in this country

Why? Women have the right to abortion on the NHS in this country. It is not withheld from them. No woman who disagrees with abortion is obliged to have one.

The only debate is how to ensure that all women in the UK genuinely have access to abortion.
