Do people really believe this about transition?

Is this part of the issue - besides the misogyny? That people really do believe you can partially or completely become the opposite sex?

“Trans women can go through female puberty and develop biologically female bone structure. Trans women can biologically develop female muscle mass.” Or is this just Tom Harwood being, well, himself?

Some people will believe anything so yes, I believe there are people stupid enough to think they believe that.

The Darwin Awards exist for a reason.

Is Tom hardwood some troll? He has the intellect of a potato
This really made me laugh.

I’m sure that Tom is quite an earnest, well intentioned chap (unless you are a woman). However, he does come across as having the intellectual prowess of a pillow. He doesn’t strike me as someone who thinks about things on a very deep level or indeed at all.

FourChimneys · 06/04/2022 19:25

People do believe it but they are wrong. Like about the earth being flat or unicorns having glittery shit.

I had a very earnest teenager explain to me that if you had your breasts removed it makes you into a man. She couldn't explain what to do about the pesky chromosomes though Hmm

Crcohetmonster · 06/04/2022 19:26

Apparently transition can also make you shorter, reduce your shoe size and leave you unable to open jars.

Take one look at children who start in their competitive sports at a young age. The boys in my sons swim squad were significantly faster than the girls well before puberty is a consideration.

We are built differently, and trying to pin it just to puberty is a dangerous game, it's so much more than that.

MamaSaidTheredBeDaysLikeThis · 06/04/2022 19:30

I wonder how much that private education cost, because I would want a refund.

Be fair Pronouns they’re teachers not miracle workers. They probably earnt every penny teaching Tom.

The ignorant can be educated.

The insane can be medicated.

Nothing can be done for the stupid.

This is true. Age about 8 I challenged my 8 year old male neighbour to a fight. He was smaller than me in stature but by god he was strong. He flattened me easily 🤣🤣
PaleBlueMoonlight · 06/04/2022 20:02

Yea I think I learned that it is puberty that sends out the signal to your body to stop growing, so if puberty is blocked you end up taller than you would have done. If anyone knows a good source that I could find further info on this, I'd be interested.

WonderfulYou · 06/04/2022 20:11

In theory if someone took hormone replacement they would have more masculine/ feminine features such as muscle mass and bone structure as it’s our hormones especially in puberty that makes a women and man look so different - this is an argument I’ve read several times in response to Caitlin Jenner’s views of transgender people competing.

However you would have to be taking hormone replacement since a very early age and definitely before puberty and that (hopefully) doesn’t happen.

FourChimneys about those unicorns...

I believe that's only when they're given to boys.

When puberty blockers are given to girls they can result in stunted growth.

So you could end up with "transgirls" being taller than your average boy and "transboys" being shorter than your average girl...

MangyInseam · 06/04/2022 20:44

Yes, I think some people do.

Not to be mean, but there are a lot of people who are not all that bright. Or are totally lacking in a knowledge base, of any kind, that might send up red flags when they hear bs.

Rainbowshit · 06/04/2022 20:50

@bellinisurge

They need to keep this shit coming. Loud as they can. Doing the job for us.
Absolutely. Let people see how absolutely batshit this ideology is.

Considering that certain mps and trans women claim that they have a cervix (some question about whether it's grown, surgically created or a bit of both) this doesn't surprise me

Even offered to show it, iirc. Possibly on TV even (I keep hoping that's hyperbolic rather than somebody's utter misinterpretation of what was said during a shared decision-making process with a surgeon).

Is this the same person who has recently threatened to defecate in public at her than use the toilets relevant to their sex?

Yes, it is Dirty Protests Are My Weapon of Choice and I expect a mass of sympathetic and valorising interviews from Good Morning Britain, Woman's Hour, PM, as well as The Guardian, The Independent etc.

BootsAndRoots · 06/04/2022 23:03

All this about transition is a diversion, the particular atheletes we are talking about have gone through male puberty, still have their penis and testicles, have not taken oestrogen, they have simply reduced their testosterone levels.

We weren't even having those discussions a few years ago when trans women were allowed to compete but had to have had SRS before being able to compete.

As soon as the requirement to lose your penis and testicles was dropped we've seen a lot of these athletes now wanting to compete. Very strange... Hmm

MingeofDeath · 06/04/2022 23:23

Who is Tom Harwood?

FemaleAndLearning · 06/04/2022 23:40

Remember the average reading age in the UK is 9 years old, not saying that is true from Tom Tidy Your Room, but so many people believe everything they are told. Unfortunately the first lie always wins. C

GB News reporter. Young conservative I thought, but maybe I'm wrong?

I'd have said he's a total plank. And not just because the surname typo means it's an amusing pun.
AuntyFungal · 07/04/2022 07:52

All that money spent on his education.

Mind you, Durham. I wonder if Tom paid his way with particular work…
