Education secretary Nadhim Zahawi interviewed in the Telegraph

"Mr Zahawi ... asked for the definition of a woman - an issue which has stumped Labour politicians - he said: “A woman is an adult human female. My favourite subject at school was human biology. It’s a straightforward answer.”"

Finally

Just annoying it's all the conservatives and labour is lagging behind.

ScrollingLeaves · 01/04/2022 21:49

Well that is a relief, so long as he doesn’t somehow also think that a man can magically become one as Stella Creasy went on to say after also saying “An adult human female.”

See this from another thread:

“BringBackCoffeeCreams

On Politicäs Live yesterday. Challenged on what a woman is, she [Stella Creasy] said that a woman is an adult human female ... CHEERS! ... and some are born and some become women ... BANGS HEAD ON DESK!

Labour behind is an understatement! They just don’t know…

Helleofabore · 01/04/2022 22:05

It is very easy for the Tories to make Labour look like idiots at the moment. Despite some of the utter stuff ups they are responsible for. Simply answering the question of defining a woman as a female without any ‘buts’ or ‘ands’. Just sticking to the facts.

That four word mantra has been the key to this pushback.

And I understand that all those who have been telling us on MN that we are the extreme minority, despite us carefully explaining the polls and the reality, must be feeling like they have lost the use of one of their tropes.

Only a fool would bother trying that one again.

Just like after seeing all the young women voicing their anger at inclusion of males in their sports is just the start of that other foolish claim we see, the younger generation are so much more tolerant. Oh…. Dr Frank Lunz’s poll last year also put paid to the ‘more tolerant’ lie too.

SockFluffInTheBath · 01/04/2022 22:09

Flipping heck! He’s my MP and walks the party line so incredibly finely I just took him for a puppet. If this is actually to be the Conservative line then all well and good.

So what is the Conservative Secretary of Sate doing about the damaging mess going on in schools?

He's the boss. The gender woo buck stops with him.

And he's doing NOTHING. Parents are still being kept in the dark.

I'll keep saying this. This is a Tory mess more than a Labour one because the Tories are in government in the here and now. Labour are an unforgiveable disappointment for not being a credible Opposition to a poisonous anti-child ideology.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 01/04/2022 22:19

Agreed SpinningTheSeedsOfLove. I'll know the Tories get it when the lobby groups are booted out of schools and Headteachers are challenged about the repeated safeguarding breaches and allowing their pupils to be gaslighted b the "born in the wrong body" brigade.

HRTQueen · 01/04/2022 22:28

Wow a politician telling the truth

This is really damaging to Labour it’s moved in from what many have seen as a non issue

Exactly this. So let's get some letters in asking what he plans to do to roll back the capture and undo the damage.
MangyInseam · 01/04/2022 23:58

So what is the Conservative Secretary of Sate doing about the damaging mess going on in schools?

I think this is the next thing.

Places like schools haven't in the main had the woo imposed downward from the ministerial level. It's come from organizations like SW and other activists, civil servants, quasi-governmental and professional organizations.

It's only now that the political level is starting to see and acknowledge what has been going on. The next task is to begin to dismantle some of this. Which I suspect will be another battle, but one hopes a battle where the momentum favours sanity.

I also hope that it will involve a close look at what caused the weaknesses and bind spots that allowed this capture to take place, or it will happen again, just in another area.

But it's towards the end and the Telegraph doesn't do share tokens. I agree that Ministers must get a grip of the dangerous nonsense being peddled to kids. That's a really important follow-up question:

"Should children be taught about being same-gender or same-sex attracted as part of LGB sex education? [answer] Why do you say that?"

its not just labour, lib dems and greens are too stupid and frightened of stonewall to say the truth.
sashagabadon · 02/04/2022 08:09

Lol! This has gone from the most feared question in politics to Tory MP’s lining up in their droves to answer it Grin

Helleofabore · 02/04/2022 08:48

Yes. I agree. The lib dems tell me they have never heard any complaints on their door stop trips about their treatment of women. I point out that I tell them this each time they come and knock, plus write to the LD MP . So someone is not reporting back to the local party.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/04/2022 09:43

Should children be taught about being same-gender or same-sex attracted as part of LGB sex education? [answer] Why do you say that?"

The problem is that a lot of people wouldn’t understand the question.

“Gender” is now used instead of “Sex” all the time including by television and news presenters. Language has got very messed up.

I think it is also said as part of an audio interview. I don't really do podcasts so don't know if what is behind a paywall at the Telegraph is free is you subscribe to Spotify or Apple podcasts - search for Chopper's Politics and it was published April 1st.

But how can she be that thick. She surely doesn't think some people become adult human females? Do words mean nothing to labour politicians?

HRTQueen · 02/04/2022 16:01

I’m so glad this discussion is becoming mainstream

For too long many thought it wasn’t really an issues it was a social media debate

Unfortunately this is another issues Labour will lose voters on they need to get their act together they are all over the place

Purpletomato · 02/04/2022 16:09

Excellent. Perfect answer. What I want now from Zahawi and Javid (who also answered factually) is for them to start applying it in their policies. Single sex toilets, single sex wards, sensible sex ed policies that are age appropriate and factual etc.

Yes, and start extracting any misleading language that has been infiltrated into official documents including some among those in the NHS and BBC. ( ‘Assigned at birth’ ‘Cis’
‘Same gender attracted’ ‘chest feeding’ etc

Excellent news
I'm starting to like the Conservative party, but please, don't stop here
There's still a lot more that needs sorting out, as other posters have mentioned
