towards the end of the programme there's a question on gender.
I've never heard such uniformly evasive answers, focussing heavily on 'be kind' and 'take the heat out of the debate'.
Very very depressing.

Just listened to this with DH, it was a joke tbh. No engagement with the actual issues and just a load of 'be kind' twaddle.

NewBootsAndRanty · 01/04/2022 20:53

Yes, it was really disheartening.

tabbycatstripy · 01/04/2022 20:57

Who’s answering?

JoodyBlue · 01/04/2022 21:01

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4518855-Maya-Forstater-on-front-page-of-Daily-Mail just dropping this here. Grin Because if we all get behind this, then they won't be able to avoid answering going forward. One of my friends said that too "it is depressing". It is. But there are things that we can get behind. It will not always be this way. Don't despair wims.

IvyTwines · 01/04/2022 21:03

Bet they 'run out of time' on Any Answers too, as ever.

ChubbyNinja · 01/04/2022 21:07

It was so disheartening. Bland waffle and endless be kind - all aimed at women budging over to make space for men.

It was laughable. Pure fill your bingo card stuff. Sport is under the control of the sporting bodies and they've studied it in great detail and are doing a fine job. The only example of women's single sex spaces was toilets. Trans people are those that fit the profile transsexual, although they didn't use that word which, oddly, is a word that you can't hardly speak these days. But contradicted it with Jamie Wallis is S&B. #bekind. Or if you're not, you're being toxic.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/04/2022 21:20

Chris Mason tried, I thought, but they were all sticking to the script.

And when Davey (or was it Jenrick?) praised Jamie Wallis' courage in coming out as wannabe trans, I wanted to hurl my radio through the (closed) kitchen window. No applause for that bit, I noted, and quite muted in general.

nauticant · 01/04/2022 21:33

The excellent question (I suspect the audience had a GC infiltrator):

Does gender supersede biological sex?

was wasted on this bunch of drones. As BoreOfWhabylon said, Chris Mason did try a bit although he did come up with the example of women's toilets which a number of guests cling on to as if flung a lifeline.

nauticant · 01/04/2022 21:34

Oh, and I meant to say, the audience really lapped up the thin gruel delivered by the panel.

Imnobody4 · 01/04/2022 22:01

Just listened to this and have to say I thought Robert Jenrick was best of the bunch. He did acknowledge the difficulty of balancing rights. He also mentioned building regs and toilets, that was refering to the consultation he did about toilet provision. I haven't actually heard anything about the outcome of that.

MaMaLa321 · 01/04/2022 22:02

yes, he was the best. But what a low bar!

OP posts:
AlisonDonut · 01/04/2022 22:06

But at least they allowed a question on it. Ch-ch-ch-changes are afoot.

Abitofalark · 01/04/2022 22:07

Jamie Wallis is what?

nauticant · 01/04/2022 22:31

It's Stunning & Brave Abitofalark. It's one of the phrases that MN are sometimes relaxed over and at other times are twitchy over. I used the abbreviation because I couldn't be arsed trying to divine the mood of the mods today.

WelcomeMarch · 01/04/2022 22:35

I was puzzled by S&B as it means style and beauty on here! Think it’s the quite possibly banned term sting and brve.

Abitofalark · 01/04/2022 23:09

Ah, thanks, nauticant. I didn't know the S B abbreviation or that there was a phrase that was banned or might be banned. Goodness. What's wrong with it? (Rhetorical question.)

Abitofalark · 01/04/2022 23:10

Also thanks, WelcomeMarch, I meant to say.

nauticant · 01/04/2022 23:21

If you search on the Internet for "Stunning and Brave" Abitofalark things will be clearer. I'll leave it at that.

Abitofalark · 02/04/2022 00:44

Okay, I get it!

NewBootsAndRanty · 02/04/2022 13:32

'Any Answers?' on in half an hour..

nauticant · 02/04/2022 13:42

Bumping the thread for posters to have a safe space to rage in about our idiotic and spineless politicians.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 02/04/2022 14:06

Any Answers has included the “does gender trump biology” question in its intro.

Whether anyone gets through to talk about … we’ll see.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 02/04/2022 14:45

Oh. No discussion. What a surprise.

nauticant · 02/04/2022 14:47

I think Anita Anand dislikes discussion of this issue when there's a possibility of some people not being kind.
