JHB asks Rishi Sunak 'what is a woman?'

NancyDrawed · 30/03/2022 08:06

Rishi Sunak can't tell her. He agrees with what the PM said, but can't actually recall the words and say something similar himself.

What is WRONG with our politicians ffs? Are they all spineless?

He’s weak and unimpressive. Never going to be PM.

happydappy2 · 30/03/2022 08:34

I am getting quite annoyed that these politicians can't read the room better and realise that for the overwhelming majority of people, sex matters. Single sex spaces matter, respecting women matters. It is nothing short of insulting to expect us to believe a man 'is a woman.'

Saltyquiche · 30/03/2022 08:38

That clip had me in stitches, comedy gold indeed

Saltyquiche · 30/03/2022 08:41

But actually it’s really not funny. How can I vote for someone who can’t tell me what a woman is

Saltyquiche · 30/03/2022 08:43

As an ancient original Labour voter I have been depending on the conservatives for common sense

Clymene · 30/03/2022 08:45

OMG what an embarrassment

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/03/2022 08:48

Oh ffs. What I don’t understand is why someone for each party hasn’t drafted something they can all just learn or refer to? This is going to keep coming up, as it should, because I’m not voting for anyone who’s a biology denier, so why aren’t they briefed and prepared instead of skewering themselves like this every time?

People will look back at this utter shit show in future and wonder what on Earth possessed everyone.

NancyDrawed · 30/03/2022 08:58

I was talking about this whole thing to my teenager yesterday which I haven't done for a while as it became an eye roll type response from him when I first found out the truth and would go off on a rant on an almost daily basis. I mentioned Emily Bridges and unfairness in sport and we just kept going.

He said that it was easy to answer in a way that was inoffensive if you gave context - biologically a woman is an adult human female, but some people can be legally women without being biologically female.

If a 16 year old can manage it, why can't our politicians?

"People will look back at this utter shit show in future and wonder what on Earth possessed everyone."

I hope so, but in an increasingly online world, given that tech is a very male place run for the benefit of fellow males, and Hollywood ditto and with their streaming services capturing young eyeballs more than UK TV , I don't know.

I think the thing that will make people finally wake up is the increasing number of young detransitioners turning round and asking the public institutions why they didn't act like mature adults to teenagers who were in mental distress. Why did they let kids with their heads full of Dr Tumblr override decades of medical safeguarding and intuition and training and silence or sack those who opposed it?

springtimeishereagain · 30/03/2022 09:16

FFS. What a tool. Just repeats the same thing over and over again. Not impressive.

I like your son's answer, @NancyDrawed

Noisyprat · 30/03/2022 09:16

As I've said on previous threads. Whilst the Tories sort of make the 'right' noises I am not convinced about them on this. I am not seeing clear statements and I am not seeing actions. Saying biology counts is great but Labour are saying a woman is an ahf (biology) AND anyone who says they are. How do we know the tories just aren't saying the last but out loud.

ProfessorLayton1 · 30/03/2022 09:28

He could always ask his Mother in law about this if he can't explain what is a woman !
What an embarrassment...
It does not matter what Boris said FFS, the question was addressed to you!

GCAcademic · 30/03/2022 09:30

Clearly a woman can have a penis, but a politician can't have a spine.

StrawberryLollipops · 30/03/2022 09:38

@GCAcademic

Clearly a woman can have a penis, but a politician can't have a spine.
🤣🤣🤣
StrawberryLollipops · 30/03/2022 09:39

It's no laughing matter - but you laugh or you cry!

Saltyquiche · 30/03/2022 09:42

Is it best to take a fresh look at the greens as a potential party? Support Emma Bateman with carrots for her allotment? Fact based leadership is required

broccolibush · 30/03/2022 09:45

If a 16 year old can manage it, why can't our politicians

I've been thinking about this a fair bit since Keir Starmer's embarrassing shitshow on LBC. It's because as soon as they admit what being trans means the whole house of cards comes tumbling down. Keir Starmer couldn't say that women can have penises out loud because it would show that the GRA isn't for poor, troubled souls who have surgery to live as comfortably as possible, and that since 2004 the meaning of trans has expanded so far as to become meaningless. Most of the public still think that trans = full surgery.

It worries me that the people running our country, or hoping to run it, aren't bright enough to come up with a work around. Something along the lines of woman = adult human female, "transwomen", of whom there are XXX with a GRC, are born male but have become female in law due to gender dysphoria, the poor lambs. Puts the sympathy right back on trans as well!

Thelikelylass · 30/03/2022 09:52

They are hopeless, all of them.

www.theweek.co.uk/news/politics/956087/where-do-the-political-parties-stand-on-trans-rights?amp

Gingerkittykat · 30/03/2022 10:16

I wonder if they would have the same problems if they were asked what a man is?

BigWoollyJumpers · 30/03/2022 11:14

Honestly the answer is really simple. Why don't they just say a woman is a woman, and a trans woman is a trans woman. Wouldn't everyone be happy with that?

NancyDrawed · 30/03/2022 11:26

That has always been my view BigWoolly,

Women are women
Men are men
Transwomen are transwomen
Transmen are transmen

No one group is superior to or lesser than the other, but they are not the same

Yowser. Give your son a medal.

That would be a great basis for both/all sides of this non debate to use as their bedrock. All else stems from that simple truth.

wasibat · 30/03/2022 12:53

NancyDrawed's son: biologically a woman is an adult human female, but some people can be legally women without being biologically female.

That is true enough, but as ever the truth is not enough for the trans lobby. They want people to be women who are neither biologically female nor legally women. Most so-called transwomen are neither of these, after all, being men without a GRC.

This is why politicians do not want to say what this young man states so clearly; they do not wish to upset all those self-proclaimed transwomen who are neither biological nor legal women (many of whom, or their allies, fill posts within their organisations.)

Oh, and I would add to the '... some people can be legally women without being biologically female' something along the lines of '... just as some organisations can be legally persons without being biologically human -- like Asda, for instance.'

-- Just for clarification, and to get the emphasis right, you understand.

Gosports · 30/03/2022 13:07

What did Boris say? I must have missed that!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2022 13:10

He's pathetic.
