I am a great fan of Elaine Miller (Gussie Grips), not least because I finally realised how to do my pelvic floor exercises properly, and so far so good.

This is her speech from the Alloa Women's Festival earlier in the month. It covers women's biology, aging and hormones, however they identify.

It is as kind and compassionate as anyone could wish for. It is also very well informed. I listened twice last night and am off to listen again. A great communicator.

I watched this linked from Glinner's email and I don't normally manage to watch half an hour when I'm supposed to be working, but this was so good I watched it all the way through and bugger the emails. She is so funny. I'd love to go to her clinic too, she comes across as a caring, professional and knowledgeable clinician.

CriticalCondition · 28/03/2022 13:26

This is so good, funny and informative and compassionate. Thank you for sharing it. I didn't know her name but I remember what must have been her thread years ago to sound out MN reaction to a 'gusset grippers' information campaign. So glad she's made that real and is speaking up for truth and common sense in a wider context.
Off to check out her website!

TheSandgroper · 28/03/2022 13:44

I found her, too, from Glinner’s page. I’m in lurve, I think. I might be watching multiple times. Re the dementia-ridden transitioner and his carers at the end, my heart was so sad.

The average age of those women who end their own lives is 51. Far out.

I will also work my way through the other speakers.

Melroses · 28/03/2022 14:47

Yes, Gussie was a Mumsnetter a few years back and could be summoned to threads on women's health.

There is an awful lot packed into this talk. I was particularly shocked that her contribution to a govt consultation was turned down due to 'formatting'

This looked like a wonderful conference - love Scottish women

WTF. She's the font of all knowledge on this.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 16:45

Yes, she's fantastic.

TheCurrywurstPrion · 28/03/2022 17:00

What a wonderful woman, warm and funny and ragin’!

PearPickingPorky · 28/03/2022 17:15

She brilliant! Where are her instructions on how to properly do pelvic floor exercises?

This was such a brilliant talk. I laughed, I cried! And I thought, I better learn how to do pelvic floor exercises...

Jackiebrambles · 28/03/2022 18:12

I watched this the whole way through today; what a wonderful woman. The facts about the menopause, some were totally new to me. Loved her!

roseinthegarden · 28/03/2022 18:52

Me too @beastlyslumber - laughs, tears and search online for pelvic floor exercises Grin

Taswama · 28/03/2022 19:00

Thank you so much for sharing this!

Melroses · 28/03/2022 19:57

It's good to have something to smile about, even though a lot of what she has to say is quite serious.

Thank you Critical!

Childrenofthestones · 28/03/2022 20:11

"I'm a fanny physio " haha love it.

Childrenofthestones · 28/03/2022 20:18

This should be on BBC1 at 8pm. instead of the usual property porn.

CriticalCondition · 28/03/2022 20:19

She made me laugh. Which is a bit risky with my pelvic floor. As she says, something of a job creation scheme! Grin

MrsPaperclip · 28/03/2022 20:57

I follow her on Instagram- she's great and posts periodic reminders to do your pf exercises!

DontAskIDontKnow · 28/03/2022 21:42

Thank you for sharing this. What she says is so important and the way she says it is so brilliant.

ruthypfdraper · 28/03/2022 22:00

Thank you. She's fantastic. Love her and all plain speaking funny Scottish like her!

megletthesecond · 28/03/2022 22:03

I follow her on FB and often whizz through my newsfeed but do a double take when she posts something cheeky.

Barrawarra · 28/03/2022 22:06

Watched this earlier, loved it. I’m now wondering if someone at work is a secret GC after putting Gussie posters up at work. Or maybe they just want to keep their fanny well.

ForeverFaithless · 29/03/2022 00:13

She is brilliant, so much compassion, humour and common sense
