Hi, trying to connect to other GC’s in the US. Just to have an idea of what’s happening. I see tons of GC stuff on Twitter from UK women but little from US women. I’m currently in North Carolina but live normally in Texas (Fort Worth). I don’t know anyone in North Carolina (Southern Pines) and feel very powerless! I have no organization I’m just attempting to connect so we can attempt to be somewhere as awesome as our UK counterparts.

@Delphinium20

US poster here - been here for a few years! In the far north, so not close to you geographically. US women's feminist and women's Democrat groups get shut down on FB or you get booted out if you're not nice or subscribe to groupthink, so women in the US have fewer online resources. Ovarit has a lot of US women as does Lipstick Alley (for Black women). I feel welcome on MN...my biggest takeaway is the word c*nt is not as bad in the UK as it is across the pond. I still cringe when I hear it but I don't take offense if it's a UK person speaking. The best thing about MN is learning about matching toasters/kettles. I'm very envious.
Good to know thank you for sharing. I watch a ton of UK shows & c*nt is more popular but I'm desensitized now so I will use it, mostly with my husband lol

@23Hares

Welcome friends, will be interesting to hear how things are going over there.

One question...if those of us in the UK are vipers what's your equivalent? Rattlers?

Rattlers! Ha! Maybe? Or just bitch.

@DomesticatedZombie

GRAVY?! What the FUCK?
Biscuits are like scones in USA…sometimes made of cornflour They serve like we would dumplings on side of meat- hence gravy Personally , much as I welcome the us homeless sisters, they can keep their biscuity scones and gravy over there.
LostTxn · 25/03/2022 15:10

@DomesticatedZombie

I was on board with welcoming US visitors, but this has gone too far.

I don't think we've even settled the whole chips/gravy thing, let alone splashing it on your fucking digestives. Jesus.

Honestly I think we should all be talking together still, I need the education!

@Waitwhat23

The Scots will donate, we never run out of fucks to give.

As a fellow Scot, I endorse this message.

As for the biscuit question, Bourbon Creams are undoubtedly the best.

Yes love the Scots, always ready to throw down & more tolerant of us Americans. No one likes us, but after this nonsense I can see why.

My phone even autocorrects “posh” to “pish” now

Haha yes mine auto fills TERF pretty quickly!

@Noreaster

Hi Everyone I'm not new but I'm delurking to be counted from New England.

It's not just any old gravy. It's special gravy for biscuits. It's delicious!

I usually am a lurker and an introvert but this nonsense is overruling my normal personality. I'm ready to fight!

[quote GrinitchSpinach]Is any of you CorrienteCanta on Twitter?

I thought this thread of hers, a response to the most recent round of discussion about about genderism v feminism on TERF Island and in the US, was very insightful:

I just saw her yesterday but no idea who she is.

@Boxowine

Over here! I think it was The Atlantic that ran an article about the terrible witches on Mumsnet several years ago. I decided to take a gander at the mean, mean women picking on these poor marginalized folks and have been lurking ever since. I think I went peak trans the first time I read a thread about trans women in prison. Was sure it was made up, I mean of course people should be happy with themselves but no one in their right mind would truly put a male in a female prison.
It just never occurred to me to look I just assumed it was only for UK mums.

Completely understand. I was a repub until trump. Was just considering dems when I caught on to this so now what do we do? Neither side is appealing.

@HildaHedgehog

I just saw your tweet on this subject on Twitter. Welcome to Mumsnet. I hope a veritable transatlantic tsunami makes its way here to join us!! Bit hugs, Hx
I thought about sharing it wider on Twitter but I assume that’s a bad idea?

Women are politically homeless everywhere. And I’m now thinking it’s not an accident.

Previously they denied us the vote by law, now they’re making it impossible for us to vote.

LostTxn · 25/03/2022 15:45

Ok I suck using this so far. Some of my responses are just floating through the thread not attached to the original comment.

Like a witch has been here!

@LostTxn it's not you, it's the poor formatting of threads on the site. Everything floats.

Welcome.
I have family in Tennessee, a very gc aunt though she wouldn't know the term. Who thinks men in women's sport is outrageous, I wouldn't dare tell her about the prisons.

That’s why I think I might have to hold my nose and vote Tory at the next election. It’s no good if we all take our bat and ball home (spoil paper/stay home). We have to make an active choice to shift the dial. I say this as a lifelong leftie and former Labour voter.
DomesticatedZombie · 25/03/2022 15:52

Twitter - share away, OP. We get our names dragged through the mud on the regular. It's all sunlight. Grin

You may have hit on a very profound thing there.

I'm in England, and I have Canadian friends working in London. They currently don't want to go back to Canada because of the hideous social environment there for them and their daughters.

I don't think any of us are, but I follow her. She's smart and a good woman to follow.

viques · 25/03/2022 19:08

@MiladyBerserko

What kind of pervert puts gravy on biscuits?

This is not right. Or is this just you American lot giving things weird names such as calling your bum 'fanny' and men's trouser braces 'suspenders'.

Sort yourselves out. Or next thing will be that people will start saying men are called women...

Not to mention milk in gravy! (Nurse I need my little yellow pills.) Gravy needs wine in it, and half decent wine at that……
TheFnozwhowasmirage · 25/03/2022 19:22

FlowerArranger I once spent a night in Page. The only things I can remember about it was that the town seemed to be a bit of a dive,it was expensive to stay there and I had chilli for dinner. We only stopped there because we'd been driving for hours and were too tired to go to the next town ( which I think was Holbrook,which we really liked).

FlowerArranger · 25/03/2022 19:50

@TheFnozwhowasmirage - I agree it’s a dive. Only stayed their overnight as we were visiting the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell Smile
