Hi, trying to connect to other GC’s in the US. Just to have an idea of what’s happening. I see tons of GC stuff on Twitter from UK women but little from US women. I’m currently in North Carolina but live normally in Texas (Fort Worth). I don’t know anyone in North Carolina (Southern Pines) and feel very powerless! I have no organization I’m just attempting to connect so we can attempt to be somewhere as awesome as our UK counterparts.

I think 'Bepenised Overlord' would make a good Tshirt were we to reach out to the Ychromosomed market. We'd need something pithy on the back, though.

US poster here - been here for a few years! In the far north, so not close to you geographically. US women's feminist and women's Democrat groups get shut down on FB or you get booted out if you're not nice or subscribe to groupthink, so women in the US have fewer online resources. Ovarit has a lot of US women as does Lipstick Alley (for Black women). I feel welcome on MN...my biggest takeaway is the word c*nt is not as bad in the UK as it is across the pond. I still cringe when I hear it but I don't take offense if it's a UK person speaking. The best thing about MN is learning about matching toasters/kettles. I'm very envious.

” This does present a dilemma. Do we put out biscuits or cookies for new visitors?”. DomesticatedZombie

Both. Sometimes you want chewy. Other times, crunchy.

Anyway - more is more!

Yes... but please don't put gravy on the biscuits here. You may dunk them in a nice cup of tea. BrewBiscuit

This does present a dilemma. Do we put out biscuits or cookies for new visitors?

Well a good old MN question is “what’s your favourite 😉 biscuit?”…

FrancescaContini · 24/03/2022 20:03

Good luck to our GC sisters in the USA. Flowers

23Hares · 24/03/2022 20:12

Welcome friends, will be interesting to hear how things are going over there.

One question...if those of us in the UK are vipers what's your equivalent? Rattlers?

TheUsualShitshow · 24/03/2022 20:31

Hello everyone Smile

I have lurked here periodically for the last couple of years, but I decided to finally sign up today after the latest bru-ha-ha on Twitter. Just want to add that I too am in North Carolina, outside of Raleigh. Glad to see a thread up for US women, and hopefully we'll see more international women joining as well!
DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 21:32

GRAVY?! What the FUCK?

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 21:33

I was on board with welcoming US visitors, but this has gone too far.

I don't think we've even settled the whole chips/gravy thing, let alone splashing it on your fucking digestives. Jesus.

AdaColeman · 24/03/2022 21:40

US biscuits are more like scones, often eaten for breakfast. Though why you would put gravy on scones is another baffling question. Wink

BettyFilous · 24/03/2022 21:49

I think we can stand down the scone/biscuit and gravy set-to amicably. After all, whilst no longer fashionable, beef cobbler is basically meat in gravy baked with a scone topping. The terminology differs a bit we have a shared scone/biscuit-gravy culinary vernacular. Phew! We don’t need a re-run of the great Weetabix schism.

EveSix · 24/03/2022 21:53

Bepenised overlords 😂

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 22:13
Hmm

beef cobbler? wtf even is that?

scones and gravy ... Confused

Waitwhat23 · 24/03/2022 22:18

The Scots will donate, we never run out of fucks to give.

As a fellow Scot, I endorse this message.

As for the biscuit question, Bourbon Creams are undoubtedly the best.

WouldBeGood · 24/03/2022 22:35

Fellow foul mouthed Scot here.

My phone even autocorrects “posh” to “pish” now

Noreaster · 24/03/2022 23:09

Hi Everyone
I'm not new but I'm delurking to be counted from New England.

It's not just any old gravy. It's special gravy for biscuits. It's delicious!

NarcissistsEyebrows · 24/03/2022 23:25

UK sometime lurker, sometime poster popping in to say welcome to our US friends.

On the biscuit debate... I've long wondered what they're like. I've never visited the US but read about them lots in Kay Scarpetta books she's going to struggle to identify her victims now that sex is banished and she has to infer their gender from a handful of bones

Does anyone have a recipe for making biscuits and gravy they'd be willing to share? I'm intrigued, and there us only one way to find out!

23Hares · 24/03/2022 23:38

@NarcissistsEyebrows I'm not sure you'd want to try their gravy to be honest. It looks like runny porridge. Nowt like proper gravy. Scones with runny porridge Envy (not envy)

BettyFilous · 25/03/2022 00:43

Beef cobbler recipe for Zombie and a bump for any west coast visitors. Wink

Hi there. I'm an Irish transplant to the midwest, currently living in the bluest community of a very blue state. I love the blueness for the most part.

I don't agree with it on this topic though. It's hard to feel you really don't have a political home, and cheering for the governor of Florida feels all wrong but all right too.

My son once ordered biscuits and gravy for breakfast, in Page AZ.
