Hi, trying to connect to other GC’s in the US. Just to have an idea of what’s happening. I see tons of GC stuff on Twitter from UK women but little from US women. I’m currently in North Carolina but live normally in Texas (Fort Worth). I don’t know anyone in North Carolina (Southern Pines) and feel very powerless! I have no organization I’m just attempting to connect so we can attempt to be somewhere as awesome as our UK counterparts.

Glad to see sisters from the US taking the biscuit and running with it!

Furries · 25/03/2022 01:16

@NarcissistsEyebrows

UK sometime lurker, sometime poster popping in to say welcome to our US friends.

On the biscuit debate... I've long wondered what they're like. I've never visited the US but read about them lots in Kay Scarpetta books she's going to struggle to identify her victims now that sex is banished and she has to infer their gender from a handful of bones

Does anyone have a recipe for making biscuits and gravy they'd be willing to share? I'm intrigued, and there us only one way to find out!

Ha, my “biscuit” knowledge came about in the same way. I’d love a proper biscuit recipe, but it would have to be topped with my own awesome gravy. Which is basically OXO granules, very generous helping if brown sauce and a dollop of whole grain mustard - with a nice thick consistency. I’m fully aware that I lack the skills to make proper gravy - and I’m thankful for that, as my version is blooming lovely with no effort!

Am loving seeing the posts on this thread. Welcome to those from across the pond.

One thing I would say is to check out the guidelines for posting on this board. There are rules to follow and terminology that you can/cannot use. It can sometimes feel a bit frustrating, having to do a bit of mental gymnastics, to get your point across. But it’s how this discussion has been able to keep going on this site.

Also, if you’re new to checking out the board, bear in mind that there are a lot of people who read and learn, but might not post much. So, you might not “see” their views, but there’s a wonderful contingent of people out there who are reading, learning and using that knowledge in ways that many may not ever realise or see just by looking on here.

And if you ever need a bit of a break from how batshit things are, I’d highly recommend seeking out The Litter Tray or The Doghouse boards - not only are the photos cute, it’s also a reminder that sex matters whatever the species!

Popping back to say I've been on MN for many years...

Also, sausage gravy isn't brown gravy.
You make it with scrapings and grease from a pan you've fried sausage (sans skin) in, along with a good bit of the fried sausage all crumbled up. You add flour to this, make a roux, and add half milk, half cream (aka half and half in the US) to make a thick sauce, stirring all the time, and add seasonings - perhaps some thyme, some red pepper flakes, a pinch of ground sage, maybe some nutmeg. Stir until it all comes together and thickens nicely. Serve over the biscuits and the rest of the sausage.

Over here! I think it was The Atlantic that ran an article about the terrible witches on Mumsnet several years ago. I decided to take a gander at the mean, mean women picking on these poor marginalized folks and have been lurking ever since. I think I went peak trans the first time I read a thread about trans women in prison. Was sure it was made up, I mean of course people should be happy with themselves but no one in their right mind would truly put a male in a female prison.

MiladyBerserko · 25/03/2022 02:31

What kind of pervert puts gravy on biscuits?

This is not right. Or is this just you American lot giving things weird names such as calling your bum 'fanny' and men's trouser braces 'suspenders'.

Sort yourselves out. Or next thing will be that people will start saying men are called women...

Gelasia · 25/03/2022 03:03

Biscuits and gravy are the best. Lots like stew and dumplings really.

Hope you get a good muster OP.

😂

I’ll fully admit, from being younger it took me a while to figure out that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches weren’t quite what I’d imagined. TBF, the correct version hasn’t tempted me, but at least the vision in my mind was corrected.

Maybe bum-bags need a new universal name/meaning. Everyone has a bum, not everyone has a fanny!

That sounds amazing - I may have to try that!

@DomesticatedZombie

I was on board with welcoming US visitors, but this has gone too far.

I don't think we've even settled the whole chips/gravy thing, let alone splashing it on your fucking digestives. Jesus.

I don't even particularly like gravy on roast dinners; I use it very sparingly. I don't think I'm really British or northern Blush
NarcissistsEyebrows · 25/03/2022 09:19

Thanks for the additional info and recipe link, my family are all big sausage fans so I'm going to make the dish in the next week!

I'm also a huge fan of peanut butter and jam together, absolutely delicious. Unless you have a specific aversion to pb then I strongly recommend it or everyone to try. On buttered toast 😋

DomesticatedZombie · 25/03/2022 09:21

@BettyFilous

Beef cobbler recipe for Zombie and a bump for any west coast visitors. Wink
I clicked on that fully prepared to rage at it, but it actually looks delicious.

Thanks!

THAT however, I'm sorry, I'm trying to be sensitive and polite but fucksake.

White sauce with mashed up sausage in it? WTF?

No, thank you.

I'm loving this thread.

Americans with humour and recipes? amazing.

Now, explain to me something - why do you drive 4 hours for a coffee or a wee walk in a park? Don't you realise that is a LONG WAY and requires an overnight stay, probably two?

Welcome to the Pond skaters!

And gravy is ALWAYS brown. A white sauce with bits of sausage may identify as gravy but if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

That is all I have to say on the matter

GrinitchSpinach · 25/03/2022 14:34

Is any of you CorrienteCanta on Twitter?

I thought this thread of hers, a response to the most recent round of discussion about about genderism v feminism on TERF Island and in the US, was very insightful:

Wait 'til you hear about Italian-American grandmas and their Sunday gravy...

@Olderbadger1

Welcome OP! I often listen to WLR - womensliberationradionews.com/ - for updates on the feminist push-back and general rants. And do join the WDI crew - they run regular chatty webinars with women from across the globe. Helps one to feel less isolated. There's also a MN pub - the Bluestocking which is a great place to go when it all gets to much to handle. Mind you, it's been a bit quiet there of late... maybe that's a sign that the tide seems to be turning here so there's less need for virtual alcohol or sustained swearing.
Great thank you for sharing!

@SouthJerseyShore

Hello! Thanks for posting this thread and alerting the Americans that we can join Mumsnet too! I am located in New Jersey. I post on twitter anonymously as I am surrounded by UN-likeminded people. I don't know that many people, and yet THREE of the young girls in my social network are now claiming to be NB. Two have changed their names. I have two daughters, and I worry so much for them in this crazy new biology denying world. Would LOVE to meet someone in my area to rant with in person, but until that day comes, I am so thankful to find all of you online. Smile
Yes it's terrifying! We'll have to think how we can find each other on Twitter. I'm on there anonymously too. 🤔 And yes I need people too! This is a good start!
@LostTxn There are excellent GC forums in the US, for instance Ovarit at ovarit.com/o/GenderCritical. If you want to join just email the administration
Good to know! Thank you! I will check it out.

Hey, hope you find lots of like-minded women. I just wanted to say that Bridget Phetasy had two women from WoLF on her podcast recently, and they were talking about the bill to keep men out of women's prisons. That might be something worth finding out more about/organising around.
Yes great thank you!

@OscarWildebeest

Hello from Pennsylvania! I live in one of the more conservative counties in the state, but the klaxon of “TWAW” has somehow taken over here. The liberal people in my area aren’t interested in trying to do anything useful (common sense gun control, funding schools, feeding people, etc.), they’re all busy making sure that our Bepenised Overlords can intrude anywhere they’d like. The conservatives are busy stockpiling ammunition and ‘rolling coal’ to show Biden what’s what.

I feel like I’m losing my mind and I want to flee the country.

I feel you. This has been such a shock. I think many are not critically thinking about this at all. We need to make a ruckus. We at least have this starting point to vent & connect.

I think 'Bepenised Overlord' would make a good Tshirt were we to reach out to the Ychromosomed market. We'd need something pithy on the back, though.
Great idea! I heard this one yesterday "cockfrocker" I laugh every time I think about it!
