On gender transition at PMQs:" biology overwhelmingly important", preceded by urging respect for those feeling they need to transition. Sounded calm, respectful,and kinda where we were on course before the TRA actions.

@midlifecrash

He’s not to be trusted on this or anything else. But it means the damage this is doing to Labour has been noticed
I don't trust Boris on anything because he says whatever it is that he thinks we want to hear and will keep him in the job.
Blossomtoes · 23/03/2022 17:26

@lifeturnsonadime

Quite possibly the first time he's told the truth.
Trouble is he’ll change his mind next week or at whenever the point arrives when it’s expedient for him to do so.
TheRussianDoll · 23/03/2022 17:31

Mr Johnson is known to change his mind on just about everything. He makes promises he’s no intention of keeping.

Wasn’t it Johnson who spoke of “Bum boys in tank tops”? It was pre-politics, I think. He’d nothing to lose then in showing his true colours.

When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

happydappy2 · 23/03/2022 17:31

May I just point out that Boris is fully aware of womens prisons currently being mixed sex & has done nothing about it.....

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 23/03/2022 17:31

Please don't forget that select committee chair Caroline Nokes (Con) is still trying to push self-ID through, as did Maria Miller (Con) and Theresa May (Con); and Crispin Blunt (Con) is behaving IMO very misogynistically toward the Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend (Con) - and Boris Johnson needs to step up on this properly, and stop hiding.

Exactly. What is he actually DOING about the mess we're in?
Blossomtoes · 23/03/2022 17:33

Never going to happen as long as there’s a fridge around.

popcornsong · 23/03/2022 17:34

Ex Labour Party member here who cannot imagine ever voting for them again. If they can get this issue so wrong why should I trust their research and opinion on other issues? If they can be terrorised by the TW community into telling utter lies about biology how can I trust them to protect me, my family, this country, democracy or free speech? I have never voted Tory but I am very close to doing so.

TheRussianDoll · 23/03/2022 17:35

The man is incapable of stepping up to anything. He wriggles out of his promises and leaves chaos and disappointment in his wake.

lifeturnsonadime · 23/03/2022 17:37

The depressing reality is that no one really cares about women.

2022 and the left says that women don't exist separate from men and the right claims to know biology is important but still has paid a lobby group and implemented policies that are anti women.

Mr Johnson could do more in regards to supporting women in this issue. Making sure the public sector, particularly government departments, recognise sex as a protected characteristic would be a bloody good start. It's under his watch that we have male rapists in prisons and in the NHS.

Belief in the reality of biological sex should not be a political issue it affects ALL women.

MyLittlePhonyPony · 23/03/2022 17:37

But again, Johnson is unlikely to be in office for too much longer. Obviously whoever takes the helm will determine the direction, but they'd have more opposition in trying to push self Id than Labour, which seems to be the lone voice of reason is Rosie Duffield.

Agree. Just cross posted the same point.
Kendodd · 23/03/2022 17:38

I never thought I'd see the day that I agreed with something that mop-headed buffoon said

I agree.
All the other stuff is too important for me to set aside though.
Putin has also spoken out on trans issues so in one way, I actually agree with Putin as well. Wonder if Putin has boasted about slapping women in the bottom or spaffing money up the wall investigating child sex abuse?

EvilPea · 23/03/2022 17:39

Oh lord this could be the thing that keeps them in isn’t it.

Exactly that. I feel just the same.
Iknowitisheresomewhere · 23/03/2022 17:40

I haven't read the full thread but I think this is great because it gives a reason to talk to all MPs now. Voting (in a general election sense) won't happen for a while. But we can get the message out NOW to Labour, Libs Dems etc that there is now 'clear blue water' between them and the Tories on this. What matters NOW is to tell Labour MPs that you will not vote for them, and you will actually vote Conservative, as long as Labour maintains its current position.

Don't worry about 'who to vote for when the time comes'. Go out and tell Labour you won't vote for them, in the hope that they see sense before that time.

Blossomtoes · 23/03/2022 17:42

I couldn’t do that with a straight face. I’d sooner eat my own liver than vote Conservative.

Iknowitisheresomewhere · 23/03/2022 17:43

And another thing - whatever you think of Boris, him coming out and saying this will give courage to Liz Truss, Kemi Badenoch, Jackie Doyle-Price and hopefully a few more to keep speaking out for women. They won't need to fear what has happened to Rosie Duffield.

Kendodd · 23/03/2022 17:43

Good point.
I'm going to email the Greens, Labour and Lib Dems now on this.

I'm more worried about Labour then compiling a list of women with wrong think and moving against them to make them lose their jobs and criminalise genuine concerns.

Am I being paranoid? Watching Scotland I am not so sure.

Another reason I will vote conservative as freedom of speech is tolerated even if they don't agree with you.

Whereas Labour only allows freedom of speech if they agree with you.

Bobnotpop · 23/03/2022 17:49

I’ve been a member of the Labour Party all my life until recently, I’m as anti Tory as you can get, but if the only way to protect women and girls is to vote Conservative I’ll do it.

TheRussianDoll · 23/03/2022 17:51

Johnson didn’t do much for Nazanin Zaghari -Ratcliff coming out, did he?

I’ll go now! I just despair at the Tory corruption and Johnson 😡

GunnyDraper · 23/03/2022 17:51

@Tarne

I cannot believe the audacity of some men who think that because they like to dress up in glamorous fancy dress, wear make up and heels that all this makes them a woman!! It makes them a transwoman and good luck to them!

They should be happy with that category, there should be trans categories in the Olympics, Commonwealth games, national and school sporting activities and we can all celebrate trans athletes!

I'm so far past this now I can't even use that term. They are trans identified men. Not women, not a subset of women. They are a subset of men.
ChocAuVin · 23/03/2022 17:53

I’m desperately sad that I can’t vote Labour as I always have due to the wordy-salad-soup and batshit denial of biological reality. But that’s life.

Won’t be voting for Boris and this bunch of sociopathic numpties either — such a shame it has to be the Tories speaking sense on this issue, and I’m infinitely grateful they are, and still, even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day.

tabbycatstripy · 23/03/2022 17:53

@balalake

Judge Mr Johnson on actions not words. I doubt he will act much if at all. He could start by not staring at a woman's tits when talking to them.
But at least you know (unlike Keir Starmer) that if Johnson's looking at your tits, he's not thinking about your Gender Recognition Certificate.
