The fact that she ended up sat behind Schuyler Bailar - was that accidental or engineered by one or other of the parties? Either way it will totally be picked up on and dictate how this story is presented.
The fact is, a trans man competing against other men is different because in high level competitive swimming, the trans man will not beat a male swimmer. Yes, they, as a fantastic swimmer, could tan the arse of a male Sunday swimmer but not a fellow elite male athlete. Lia on the other hand as a trans woman who has been a high level male swimmer (although a somewhat mediocre one) WILL tan the arse of any female swimmer they compete against at this level. Perhaps they may occasionally lose to a female swimmer if they are having a bad day (or deliberately not wanting to come first every time) but that would be exceptional.
But this will be used as a Gotcha for sure by TRAs. How dare the nasty woman make Schuyler feel bad? And Ha! She couldn't even tell that Schuyler was a transman. Schuyler is a beloved transman and is a spokesperson for trans participation in sport. When the arguments for trans participation in sport are trotted out, it's the likes of Schuyler that are used in the campaigns. Not the likes of Lia. And these types of campaign insinuate that transphobes are running around and stealing the gym kits off trans children and saying they can't have a kick around in the park because some nasty t**fs' hate them and don't want them to participate in grass root sports.
Sigh. Anyway getting back to the fundamental truths and putting media personalities and optics to one side - it is patently unfair that Lia is allowed to participate in the female swimming races. How any sane, intelligent person, be they woman, man, trans woman or trans man, can disagree with this is unbelievable.
What anyone does or doesn't like about PP is irrelevant beyond the fact that she's out there giving this further daylight.
