@VelvetChairGirl

I’m going to guess that the difference is your brother is a decent enough human not to have ever considered pulling a stunt like this?
I'm looking forward to people asking his pronouns in the street because he has long hair, if this is the way its going there will be a lot of dental bills.

MadameKali · 16/03/2022 12:51

Saw this festival advertised a while ago when they were looking for contributors and just knew this would happen.

As an aside, why have I spent the best part of the last decade tweezering the hairs off my chin when it's clear that actually, ladies do have beards. All that time wasted.

IvyTwines · 16/03/2022 13:15

I'd be interested to know what role Arts Council England 's funding policies and other arts commissioning policies may be playing in pushing all this. To what extent is identifying as 'trans' or 'queer' allowing a socially privileged group - middle class white males - to now access funding and platforms that were originally and rightly set aside to help genuinely underrepresented groups enter the arts? Are we seeing the arts equivalent of Lia Thomas?

ReeseWitherfork · 16/03/2022 13:24

I actually wouldn't be against listening to the unique and lived experiences of trans people. I'm happy to assume this person has some interesting stories to tell. But at an appropriate event. Why are so many organisations failing to see that? Why are so many organisations gaslighting women? Why are so many women-centric organisations gaslighting women? The world has gone mad.

WellThatsMeScrewed · 16/03/2022 13:47

The irony really does pass many people men by doesn’t it?

To quote a well known MN expression.

No is a enough.

So just no.

lastoneintown · 16/03/2022 13:55

See, that person obviously does not have gender dysphoria as they present entirely as male and in every interaction they have in life, other people will be reacting to them as a male.

They live as a male, as that is how everyone perceives them, and as such they have no idea what it is to live as a woman and be treated as woman in every interaction you have.

How can they have the arrogance and lack of awareness of what it is to be a woman to think otherwise? And how can people collude in their delusion?

VelvetChairGirl · 16/03/2022 14:03

I can find absolutely nothing about this man via google other then he likes Animal Crossing and was a "booer" in a stage production at a uni in surrey.

candycane222 · 16/03/2022 14:04

Cowards have turned odf replies. Quel surprise.

SnowWhiteLobelia · 16/03/2022 14:06

So stunning and brave.

Or... they could advocate for a trans event rather than co-opting women's events. that would show a great deal more integrity IMO.

Yes, it's very annoying. I had so many insulting comments I wished to make!

they could have a transman.

I would actually be interested to hear the change in how they are treated since transitioning.

Isn't it funny how all of the organisations that claim to be championing women seem to be terrified of Women With Opinions.

Poet in the City Producers present: What a Woman!

What a Woman! invites everyone to come celebrate everything and anything that contributes to what it means to be a woman. From Mary Prince to Marsha P Johnson, Anne Frank to Amanda Gorman, these people highlight the diversity of femininity and feminine expression. Our brilliant line up features poets Rue Collinge and Tahmina Ali, and musician Kay Greyson, artists from our own communities in Newcastle who inspire us with their own unique experiences of womanhood in their work. Come along and be inspired too, maybe bring someone who also inspires you. Throughout the event experience storytelling sound installation from performance-maker, sound designer, and composer Alexis Beaufoy-Salguero.

Newcastle Herstory doesn't centre (actual) women.

nepeta · 16/03/2022 15:51

When I read that some trans activists define 'woman' as 'anyone who is feminine or performs femininity' I looked up some definitions of femininity. They include being passive and submissive and emotional and nurturing.

The sort of stuff old time feminism used to fight against as those beliefs are used to keep women subjugated and away from decision-making roles.

Not sure what feminine expression might be. Short skirts, high heels and makeup? What human rights does a group defined by that lack?

My point is that the oppression of women globally is based on sex or assumed sex. It is not based on dress or such, so the baby here is thrown away while the bathwater is kept.

Fenlandia · 16/03/2022 16:08

I thought Anne Frank had a bit more to worry about each day than performing her feminine gender expression Confused

It is extraordinarily crass to include a young woman who was murdered in Belsen for being Jewish in that sentence.

Even if they weren't including a drag queen in their list or featuring someone who was born male on their programme, I would be appalled at their idiocy

TheWeeDonkey · 16/03/2022 16:33

Exploring boundaries?

I'll bet they does

Fenlandia · 16/03/2022 17:18

I used to go to a monthly Poet in the City event. There was a theme and people would bring a poem to read. It was lovely, cosy and occasionally very moving. This stuff is just shite on a stick!

Hasselhoffsheadband · 16/03/2022 17:30

That actually looks like it could be a parody! 🤣

Glorious ratio though.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 16/03/2022 17:36

It's clearly just a bloke with long hair! Am I allowed to say that?!

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/03/2022 18:04

Does anyone know how these people are selected and who makes the choices?

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 16/03/2022 18:09

@AlsoNotAGirl

Male supremacy in action
That’s it.
AuxArmesCitoyens · 16/03/2022 18:14

Bit crass to include a girl murdered at the age of 16 in examples of brave womanhood, seeing as she never even got to he a woman at all.

Don't stop me, I think I know this.

Is it because women are generally shamed and subject to ageist comments criticised for a stray hair on the chin with a side order of derision for hirsuteness at any age, whether it's underarms, legs, trunk?

That doesn't obtain for those who are expanding the bandwidth of what it means to be a woman rather than expanding the bandwidth of what it means to be a man?

TheWeeDonkey · 16/03/2022 19:06

@Hasselhoffsheadband

But he's got the head tilt too so no I don't think you are allowed to
