Today, on International Womens Day, it's been rather depressing seeing all manner of organisations throw in a quick lip service tweet, only to be pulled up by that bot on their sex pay gaps. Then a vagina museum essentially goad women by doing a big thread about celebrating some people that don't have vaginas. A police force pissing off women too, and then removing the tweet with a post telling us all to "be kind". The hashtag that popped up in the middle of the day, telling women what the right kind of feminism is: the intersectional aka everyone kind.

Basically the general shite we've all come to expect because we can't have one flipping day to ourselves.

So, I would like to say, thank fuck for JK Rowling. Who has stormed in from yesterday and continued today at her magnificent, no holds barred and no shits given best. It's made it an IWD to remember.

That is all. Happy IWD Grin

God I love that woman.

HermioneKipper · 09/03/2022 08:24

God I know. She’s just fantastic isn’t she.

She makes things better when we feel like we’re just screaming in to a void

teawamutu · 09/03/2022 08:39

Between JKR and the gender pay app, this was actually my favourite IWD in years.

Clever, funny women holding a light to the patriarchy and taking the piss. Marvellous stuff and got lots of cut through.

Agree! It was quite something

Thank you again Jo. I didn't see all your tweets until this morning but they are epic. SmileSmileSmileSmile

Hasselhoffsheadband · 09/03/2022 08:49

I'm loving the TRA reaction to this as well.

Katy Montgomerie telling her to 'grow up you absolute loser'.

Aidan Comerford still flogging that single tweet of a dead woman as a way to discredit JKR (he rolls it out at least once a week bless 'im) and comparing JK to Jimmy Saville.

Joss Prior quoting literary character descriptions from The Casual Vacancy thinking that it says something personally about JKR.

They've got nothing. The are just grasping at anything. She is pure class, she giveth no fucks now, and they just don't know how to handle it!

Phobiaphobic · 09/03/2022 08:54

Just here to express my immense gratitude, Joanne.

Apparently Dom Joly stuck up for JKR yesterday, which made my day. I am so relieved he's GC.
StopStartStop · 09/03/2022 08:59

JKR, thank you.

MrsWooster · 09/03/2022 09:02

Thank you, JK, for standing up for women. It’s made me cry a bit.

Musomama1 · 09/03/2022 09:03

Always thought that JKR was one of the world's wonderful women, way before all of this.

There's a very moving biopic about her that sticks in my mind as well as a couple of documentaries that show just how much shit she has gone through and her absolute rock-hard courage and talent.

It was her essay that completely woke me up to this madness. Thank you.

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/03/2022 09:16

JKR is one of the wonderful women that make me a bit less worried about my daughter growing up in this world. The class and dignity she employs is a delight to watch. DD (10) loves her, and I adore her for all she has done for women and the sheer joy and delight through literature she has given millions.

DaisyTheUnicorn · 09/03/2022 09:18

She is truly awsome. I hope she lurks on Mumsnet and can see the support she has here x
Sadly I realised yesterday my daughter is no longer as feminist as she once was :( School culture has a lot to be desired.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 09/03/2022 09:19

Oh I'm sure she's a Mumsnet lurker.

BoodleBug51 · 09/03/2022 09:22

I am in awe of her.

Linguini · 09/03/2022 09:24

Unfortunately this pile of bilge has shown up on my feed....
Whoever you are Samantha Bergeson, consider yourself dumped.

Monty: sez.

Comerford: obviously blocked me ages ago, which means I can no longer affix that little YouTube clip of his tasteless song about being a lady to every tweet shitting on MB. Is anyone else doing it?

Joss P: assists the GC cause with every tweet. No further questions.

TinaYouFatLard · 09/03/2022 09:30

I ❤️ JKR

She truly is a beacon of blazing light in the darkness.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 09/03/2022 09:35

I know it hasn't been JKR's style to sue those who libel her for defamation, but I'm starting to wonder if she's now pondering it.

Given that she's likely give any award(s) to charities like Lumos, it would be a rather interesting way of getting some of the more vicious misogynists to help women and girls for once in their stunted lives.

I admire her for being so calm under pressure.

SelfPortraitWithPterodactyl · 09/03/2022 09:35

Yes, she is utterly magnificent. What a woman. THANK YOU, if you're reading this!

Also very funny. Grin

Give your daughter time and space to come back, and keep up gentle reminders of why feminism is needed more than ever, and why it should centre actual women.

As you say, it's the prevailing culture in school and it's tough to go against that when you're a teenager and you just want to fit in. Mine went through the stage of rejecting my boring old mum feminism in favour of the fun rainbow cool-kids kind, but they began to see through it when they got out into the world a bit more.

Sexnotgender · 09/03/2022 09:40

She’s the absolute queen.

Every post she makes is total gold.

@Linguini that article merry shows how reasonable JKR is - nothing in it shows hatred of trans people. So the author hasn't scored the goals she obviously thinks she has.

And I was furious at the 'identifies as a sexual assault survivor' slur in the article - are we not believing women when they tell us of abuse? Is it ok to imply JKR is lying because her views differ to the author?

ChristmasAtHogwarts · 09/03/2022 09:45

If you’re on here JKR thank you for creating the book series of my childhood, I was the same age as Harry when the books came out. And now you’re fighting for the women who grew up with your characters. Thank you thank you thank you.
