Why would anyone not become a legal man?

Gender recognition reform bill to be tabled at Holyrood www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-60589578

I can't wait for this. I'm definitely going to change my legal gender.

It would be much easier to achieve equality this way, just think of all that administrative male privilege I'll be able to access. Im pretty sure I'll get a pay rise almost straight away, as soon as HR run the numbers and see that I'm a financial anomaly compared to my male peers.

I could report a crime and be taken seriously. It's all very exciting.

Im not worried about health care, obviously I still have my cervix, so that's not a concern.

One thing though, DH is refusing to change to be a legal woman - I can't imagine why.

Im not homophobic, Im happy to become a lesbian. But it means DS technically won't have a mother. It might be a bit of a difficult one for him.

I guess Mermaids have a handy pamphlet that will sort all this out.

I really can't understand what everyone is complaining about...

Last week I did not finish putting up a shelf . I have left all my tools on the hearthstone and the shelf is just a plank on the floor getting in the way .
I'm a man , aren't I ?

Beowulfa · 03/03/2022 15:36

I've only ever seen men spitting in public, and that grotesque act of forcibly blowing snot out onto the ground (or onto a hand and then wiping it against a bus shelter as I witnessed recently) rather than using a fucking tissue.

If I self ID as a man can I go round doing this with impunity?

Did you get Mission Creep and start tearing off some wall paper in another room? Do you have a selection of bits of wood in the shed "just in case"? Do you have an old biscuit tin full of odd screws and nails and rawl plugs instead of ladies sewing bits?
JamieNorthlife · 03/03/2022 16:10

@Chersfrozenface

Next thing... Can I have two sets of ID, one for when I'm in woman mode and one for when I'm in man mode?

(I've done re-enactment for years and have plenty of experience of playing male roles, with photos.)

That's a great idea. I can use one for legal work and one to be into dodgy stuff....
Cagedbirdsinging · 03/03/2022 16:47

@BluerThanRobinsEggs...Grin
Mission creep - yes , every room is under DIY attack.
Selection of wood off-cuts - oh yes (including some beautiful pieces of mahogany inherited from my Dad and two 3 metre lengths of yew for new worktops).
All my screws and rawl plugs are sorted by size in the biscuit tin . Ditto nails .)
But you should see my beautiful sewing box and ribbon collection !

I wonder if there'll be time to move to Scotland and become a man before Xmas? It always seems to be much more enjoyable for the chaps, hardly anything to organise, just receive gifts of whisky and socks. Not to mention World Book Day - this time next year I won't have to give it a thought! Add that to the automatic pay increase, more time pottering in the shed, no requirement to think about holiday childcare... this is going to be AWESOME.

LOL your typo reminds me of Ladies and Jellybeans. For your listening pleasure here's a great rendition from the aptly named album True Lies and Other Legends

I already decided some time ago if asked to share my pronouns I’ll go for he/him.
Even though they’ve been calling me she for years

Me too. If anyone insists I’ll be he/him.

I’ve got a name that is often used for men anyway so don’t even need to change that.

VaddaABeetch · 03/03/2022 17:59

I wear mens clothes. I’ve discovered that their hoodies, T-shirts & joggers are better quality & cheaper then the womens.

I’m really glad to be a man. I’m 52 & working in the same industry since I was 17. That’s 35 years x 20% of my pay. It was very clever of me to save all that money so I could take it as a lump sum now.

MsFogi · 03/03/2022 18:14

I wonder who will get to decide if the proof of 'living as a man' is sufficient? I suspect that the reality will be that middle aged women will all be rejected but any bloke who has put on a dress for a day will immediately be affirmed.

KittenKong · 03/03/2022 19:05

I often wear my sons cast offs. I have found his sports clothes bloody good quality and he had most zippy sports tops than he knows what to do with. I even sometimes wear on his old school rugby shirt (it was a spare to worn once). Does that make me a schoolboy (at a boys school??).

As a teen I wore mens jeans and mens DMs - because women jeans were pretty rubbish and they didn’t make ‘womens DMs’ back on the dark ages. I also had my head mostly shaved. Confused kids today really actually believe that they have invented something here, don’t they?

RobynMyEmployer · 03/03/2022 19:12

My main fear would be the reduced likelihood of finding an eligible bachelor to fund my future life of leisure. 😂

I've been busy all day and probably missed what this is about, will go find it shortly. However wanted to add I'm off to Scotland on holiday very soon and surely a weeks holiday can identify as "living" there so I too can become a man ?

The Mothers' Meeting - for men! (From DontLikeCrumpets's link)

nightwakingmoon · 03/03/2022 19:44

We jest, but I’ve quite seriously been considering putting “he/him” on my email signature and seeing what happens. Do you think my boss will suddenly increase my salary point and stop speaking over me in meetings? Hmm?

DontLikeCrumpets · 03/03/2022 20:04

@nightwakingmoon. Serious question why does this simply have to be a jest? Why not use he/him? If your boss has no trouble using she/her to refer to men why would he have any issue using he/him for women?

nightwakingmoon · 03/03/2022 20:09

Well exactly!!

RobynMyEmployer · 03/03/2022 21:00

Why would you expect the average man to accept you as a woman anymore than you'd accept a transwoman as a real female? The old boys club is far less progressive than most lefty feminists.

I think you may not have your sarcasm detector turned on Hmm
SeaRabbit · 03/03/2022 21:22

My husband was mentioning today how much more expensive women's haircuts are than men's. I recommend that all Scottish women identify as men when they have their hair cut in the future.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/03/2022 21:33

I'm in. I want my payrise now and an office.

Qualifications:
Breadwinner
I can't remember the last time I wore a skirt
Rarely wear make up
I swear so effectively I've shocked my teenage sons before now
I always know better than the ref
Regard housework as something other people like doing
Have at least one bag of protein powder
Happy to venture an opinion on most topics whether or not I actually know anything

Do you think I'll qualify?

Seriously I think Scots women should do this if the law goes through.
