Brilliant news!

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 13/02/2022 23:22

No, I'm really not new to this, I've been here years. It's just every so often (most days) there is something that makes my brain hurt. This is one of those.

MiladyBerserko · 14/02/2022 01:38

Lol, sorry DoubleYouOhEmAyEn. Yes I do know what you mean

@ScreamingMeMe 👌 can’t let logic get in the way of a shaming attempt

Edenember · 14/02/2022 02:11

@ScreamingMeMe sorry, meant to quote you there 😊

I completed a survey, perhaps last year which was about standards in public life and the code. They obvisously didn't get too many responses because they were keen for mine to be included (I made some sort of error or they asked for clarification). Anyways, I thought the code, if followed to the letter was very good but pointed out that Lobbying was an issue and not just big business but also charities, especially if the had a political, or controversial remit. Don't know what the outcome was.

As an aside, sometimes public bodies are withdrawing from SW but then recruiting an equally divisive organisation in their place, or using some subterfuge. On the subterfuge I think it was CPS who withdrew but then transferred their diversity work to another government office who hadn't withdrawn from SW. Can't find the thread where the alternative organisation was used. Someone might remember

@DoubleYouOhEmAyEn

Is it just me that doesn't understand the need for gender neutral language when referring to pregnancy and birth. Surely its the most womanly thing you can ever do. So how do you identify as non binary person or a transman if you're doing the very thing females are designed to do? Surely if you're pregnant that makes you a woman. And however you feel inside that's what being a woman feels like cos you are one. Mind you, you could say that generally as well, not just about the pregnancy issue.
It makes more sense when you realise it's not about transmen.

It's about divorcing the word woman from anything related to our biology, so that people with a penis can have the word for themselves.

334bu · 14/02/2022 09:38

Exactly Linguini. If woman=female biology, then transwomen cannot be women.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 14/02/2022 10:48

@PastMyBestBeforeDate and others, automatic hereditary peerages were cancelled in 1999, mainly due to Tony Blair.

334bu · 14/02/2022 13:37

Yes hereditary peers no longer sit in the Lords but they are still all biologically male , even if they identify as women.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 14/02/2022 13:55

Automatic right to sit was removed but there are still a cohort of hereditary peers in the Lords.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 14/02/2022 13:57

Good!

334bu · 14/02/2022 16:04

Still all male though, whether they are able to sit in the Lords or not.

VestofAbsurdity · 14/02/2022 18:12

But the peerage, titles, estate and everything else that goes with it remains and can only be inherited by males however they identify, not females.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 14/02/2022 21:27

Are they seriously telling the House of Lords - 'misunderstands' the legislative process?!? Really?

But what would parliament know about making laws, compared with Stonewall? After all, Stonewall has been advising companies to 'move ahead of the law' for years now, and teaching its own version of the law so successfully that apparently even the police think Stonewall's teaching is the law.

KimikosNightmare · 15/02/2022 05:23

That's not correct. The automatic inheritance is of the right to be Lord Whoever - not the actual property.
