What is the biological definition of a woman (and man)?

Wombat2WombatCombat · 09/02/2022 21:50

I understand the argument for single sex spaces, but just for the avoidance of any doubt, does anyone have an exact, biological definition of a woman (or man) that we can hold people to? If we want to enforce the idea of single-sex spaces, we will need an exact criteria to determine who is or isn’t a ‘real’ woman, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what that is?

If you don't know what sex you are, ask your carer.

🤣🤣🤣

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 10/02/2022 18:02

Actually, @Wombat2WombatCombat, maybe your answer lies in a dictionary?

Do you not know what "subjective" means either?

Because, A man is an sexually mature human whose natural reproductive system conforms most closely to a male phenotype, and a woman is a sexually mature human whose natural reproductive system configuration conforms most closely to a female phenotype looks pretty measurable to me.

RVN123 · 10/02/2022 18:04

OP ask your parents which one of them squeezed you out of their vagina.

That might help you.

Wombat2WombatCombat · 10/02/2022 18:04

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

Well, *@Wombat2WombatCombat*, it's easy to criticise.

How about you share your definition with us?

I don’t have a definition. That’s why I asked

@Wombat2WombatCombat What does the word "subjective" mean to you?

Is the presence/absence of testes a subjective test? I know I keep banging on about chromosomes, but is the XX / XY distinction subjective?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/02/2022 18:04

However, this has the exact same problem as the previous responses as it is just as subjective and offers no elaboration on what it means

You can't be serious here? If you think that the facts outlined in the excellent and clear summary from @Awiltu are subjective then you aren't able or willing to meaningfully engage with this topic to be honest.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 10/02/2022 18:05

Right, I'm off. It's like arguing with a toddler with an incorrectly presented pear.

I've got to go and deal with the sexually immature humans who came out of my vagina.

I remember that. It smarted a bit.

IKR. It's not as if the two types are so similar it's really difficult to tell them apart. There's nothing subjective about it at all- it's binary!
BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 10/02/2022 18:06

I don’t have a definition. That’s why I asked

crikey

in the unlikely event that you find someone prepared to have sex with you, what sort of contraception would you use?

if you started bleeding from your genitals, should I hand you tampon or take you to hospital?

if you lived in Afghanistan, would you be allowed to go to school?

these questions may help you

do report back on your findings

Theeyeballsinthesky · 10/02/2022 18:07

Ah I see it’s still all soooooo haaaarrddd and how can we teeeelll??

Im going out on a limb to say there is literally no answer the OP would accept here

Awiltu · 10/02/2022 18:07

Your description here gives a very helpful description of broad differences in the typical development of male vs female individuals, but doesn’t state anywhere what the exact criteria is that makes them one of the other. The closest you seem to come to it is “ A man is an sexually mature human whose natural reproductive system conforms most closely to a male phenotype, and a woman is a sexually mature human whose natural reproductive system configuration conforms most closely to a female phenotype.” However, this has the exact same problem as the previous responses as it is just as subjective and offers no elaboration on what it means

No, my description gives you the criteria. It gives you a very specific list of the key components of a male and a female reproductive system. These are anatomically and physiologically distinct structures. A Fallopian tube is not just a vas deferens with a pink bow on it.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 10/02/2022 18:09

can we have Shakira now?

I bloody love Shakira

erinaceus · 10/02/2022 18:09

@Awiltu "A Fallopian tube is not just a vas deferens with a pink bow on it."

That is poetic.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 10/02/2022 18:11

🤣

Helleofabore · 10/02/2022 18:11

they are simply subjective, personal actions you would be entitled to do regardless of people’s stance on any of the transgender/what is a male or female stuff

On the contrary. A university published something last year on 'micro aggressions that would be deemed as hateful by a transitioned male' and it would mean that all of those I listed would be deemed as a micro-aggression. Of hate. I believe was how the described it.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 10/02/2022 18:13

@Wombat2WombatCombat so if you don't think we know who are men and who are women, do you not believe in things like homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality?

How could a gay man say he is only attracted to other men, if we don't know what men are?

Lovelyricepudding · 10/02/2022 18:14

We would Tut. That will see em off...

WeeBisom · 10/02/2022 18:16

I wonder why there’s this boggle eyed confusion about biological sex , but never about race or age. OP, do you have difficulty with any other concepts? For what it’s worth , I have a suspicion that you are trying out a bit of reverse psychology and arguing with us about sex in the same way we argue about what “gender identity” or “woman” means. Except the only difference is in all my time here I’ve only seen shite/ no answers to the question “What is a woman?” whereas you have been given excellent answers about what constitutes male versus female.

Barbarantia · 10/02/2022 18:19

is this the equivalent of name all the baseball teams?

Please OP when you hear your friends voice from behind without seeing them how do you know it is them? have you measured the frequency to be sure?
Do you recognise faces?

Being a sexed body is in every fibre of your being. The fact you choose to stick your fingers in your ears and go la la la to shutdown the meaning your brain is giving to the image sent by your eyes has nothing to do with women!

Why are you trying so hard to not see what is in front of you?
Will it hurt you to see a male and say it is male?
Will your tongue fall off?
Will the male be aggressive? is it easier to spit on the women instead and convince them that you didn't see the male?

You need to ask yourself why you refuse to see what everybody else sees.
Not ask us to define every cell in the human body to make sure we can ACTUALLY REALLY REALLY see it. and are we really 100% certain.
It is in every single cell. every singly one. right down to the nails. I see my little boys hand and I know he is a boy.
and he looks exactly like his sister in facial features. the type where from photos you can struggle a bit and yet you can see he is a boy.
No one needs to stand confused in toilets.

How come you are confused? What is wrong with your sense of perception. is it broken?

OldCrone · 10/02/2022 18:20

Doesn't a belief that there is no difference between the sexes also erase trans people?

If there is no discernable difference between a man and a woman, how can there be a man who 'identifies as' a woman? What is he identifying as if men are the same as women?

It is not, but the stuff I’ve read seems to indicate that there are some cases in which neither organ is clearly presenting, or where the ‘male’ organ is present in one area and the ‘female’ in another. Your response does not seem to explain how that applies in the context of determining someone as either male or female; whether some traits take precedence over others, the proportional weight accorded to each etc

Posters to this thread, one of two options:

  • either OP is a 10yo completely and utterly uneducated person who lived alone on an island up to now
  • or they're trying to get MN to come up with legal BS jargon definitions that are all inclusive all omnipotent all omniscient Hmm

Ok, third option, OP is a troll 🤷🏻‍♀️

titchy · 10/02/2022 18:27

the ‘male’ organ is present in one area and the ‘female’ in another.

Dude you need to look to look in the non-fiction section of the library! Did you really read somewhere that some people have a penis in one area and a vagina in another?! And you thought it was true? Bless! Grin
