The MAC thinks this sort of photo is appropriate for 6 year old kids to walk past on their way to their activities, the photo is part of an LGBT+ Bangladeshi artist's display.

Its really not on is it? My 8 year old was just asked me about it and I'm.stuck for words.

Wtf? Is it on the outside of the shop?

Madbadandusuallysad · 05/02/2022 10:53

Its in the lower hall, no warning displayed (that I could see) efore heading down that gallery space.

had to google mac. It's an arts complex hosting theatre, dance, music and comedy performances, plus cinema and workshops.

no (apart from just being a bit shit) that picture is not appropriate to be in a public place. if they want to exhibit it, it just needs to be in a separate area or something with appropriate signage so people know what they're letting themselves in for

it's exactly the same as an unsolicited dick pic, and people don't like them either

SwissBall · 05/02/2022 11:20

Oh I thought you meant MAC the makeup shop. Still not appropriate either way.

Madbadandusuallysad · 05/02/2022 11:21

I'm trying to write a complaint email but waffling as I'm annoyed.
Think I will try again in an hour or so, I'm not great at articulating my thoughts.

Sorry Swissball I should have been clear about what MAC is.

I think the point here is that it's an erect penis, and the penis is the whole point of the picture

we're kind of used to classical naked statues, but they don't have a boner, and the point is to represent the whole human form, not just an erect dick

it's very misjudged. also shit, did i mention that it's shit?

Wigglegiggle0520 · 05/02/2022 11:41

No that’s no appropriate.

Do you have any social media OP? Could you tweet them?

Madbadandusuallysad · 05/02/2022 11:53

Hi Wiggle,
I only use Mumsnet, no other social media. The girl at the reception desk just looked resigned when I asked her for their complaints email address. So I'm guessing I wasn't the only one asking questions and not the first to bring it to their attention.
A few parents mentioned it between us as well when we were taking the kids into class. I hope they complain as well.

Madbadandusuallysad · 05/02/2022 11:54

And yes I agree Bernard, it is an erect penis however they try to dress it up.

I thought you meant the make up shop too. I was going to say; that’s in the Bullring?!

Definitely complain; that’s awful.

AnnaMagnani · 05/02/2022 12:03

I used to go to MAC regularly back in the 90s. It was a lovely friendly, family, multicultural place.

I can see totally they would want to do something LGBT from a Bangladeshi artist but that content should be in a room with a warning.

KohlaParasaurus · 05/02/2022 12:15

At 6 I don't think my kids would have had the slightest idea what that was. But still, no, not appropriate.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 05/02/2022 12:26

Same-sex relationships are illegal, and the British colonial ‘Sodomy Law’ is still intact in Bangladesh. As a result, gender and sexual diversity are still illegal under their criminal code

no

homosexuality is illegal. that statement says jack shit about 'gender diversity' what ever the fuck that is.

can everyone please stop high jacking the oppression faced by homosexual people?

also, what is it with that artist and dicks with human heads? sheesh

Artichokeleaves · 05/02/2022 13:18

As an L person I wish to God that other LGBT+ people would stop training the general public that LGBT+ means bloody awful boundaries, emotional and sexual incontinence, a desire to involve non consenting bystanders in exposure to sexual content for personal reasons and zero respect for others.

That's bloody awful, disrespectful behaviour. It's not a part of LGBT+. We're normal people with normal manners, stop tarring us all with this lousy excuse for bad behaviour on the grounds its 'inclusive'. It's not. It's exclusionary and an intentional sneer at other people's consent.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/02/2022 13:24

It’s an actual dickhead isn’t it?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 05/02/2022 13:27

In your letter, quote and link a source explaining that exposing children to pornography is actually a form of sexual abuse of children.

Art focused on erect penises, displayed in public areas where children will encounter it, is treading perilously close to that.

I sympathise and wish the same, Artichoke.

Was going to post similar. The oppressive state of the current law is not the fault of the British Empire.
StarCourt · 05/02/2022 21:11

I used to use MAC a lot during school hols for DD, there are so many other places in the building they could put that artwork

Madbadandusuallysad · 05/02/2022 21:18

Sadly my child will no longer be participating in any activities here after this course of classes ends.
I'm done with giving my money to this place. I gave them a second chance after they decided to host an event with the word "woman" switched to "womxn", a few years ago. But what I've seen today is a step too far! I'm really upset as some of the events are great for kids, but we will just have to find elsewhere.
