(Disclaimer I am extremely amateur at this, and welcome any feedback on errors)

Inspired by the "MN in six words" thread in FWR (annoyingly I can't link as I am on the app) I thought it would be good to have a FWR haiku thread.

Here are my efforts to start us off (I never know whether to capitalise or not, and I also want to use "silenced" but can't work out whether it is 2 or 3 syllables Blush)

Women of Mumsnet
are not witches for burning
We will not submit

Pretend all you want
but men are not women and
biology rules

Courage calls anew
A dormant army rises
to prevail again.

Dry, but I really feel it.

@Shortpoet

Did you post this tweet? We’re here to check your thinking, We are the thought police.
Brilliant

Men can't explain the why
Of "woman".
There simply is no y
In women.

Not sure I obeyed haiku rules there.

Oh fuck it I'll post it (and see if it stays up!) This is for women my age who remember Pulp and "Common People" Smile

They came from Staines, they had a thirst for knowledge
They saw a bandwagon at sixth form college
That’s where I caught their eye

They told me that they felt just like me
I said “in that case go live my life,
They said fine
Then in thirty seconds time they said

We want to dress like women people
We want to have whatever women people have
We want to be like women people
Want to live like women people like me

Well what else could I do
I said “I’ll see what I can do”

I told them about women’s spaces
I don’t know why
But it must have started somewhere
So it started there

They said pretend we’ve got no willies,
I just laughed and said,
"you’re so silly”
They said "Yeah?
Well I can't see anyone else laughing in here.
Are you sure..

You want to live like women people,
You want to have whatever women people have,
You want to dress like women people,
You want to be like women people like me
But I didn't understand,
I just smiled and held their hand.

Grow your hair and wear a skirt
Pretend that all your feelz are hurt
Pretend the records can be wiped
Conform to all the stereotypes
But still you’ll never get it right
Cause when you’re laid in bed at night
And female fun just starts to pall
If you changed your mind you could stop it all.

You'll never live like women people,
You'll never do whatever women people do,
You'll never see like women people,
Your male gaze never slides out of view
So go back to being you
Because there’s nothing else to do

Sing along with the women people,
Sing along and it might just get you through.
Laugh along with the women people,
Laugh along even though they're laughing at you,
And the stupid things that you do.
Because you know women are cool.

Nah, it's a fab adaption, @WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles , and a very apt song to use. Love the line "If you changed your mind you could stop it all" . How true, and says it all really. How many of these people would change their minds if they had to leave the liberal West for any reason? Reminds me of how I felt as a working class student at a high fallutin' Uni when Common People was in the charts. The rage and despair I'd feel at some of the idiots who enjoyed wasting their time on JCR politics, "slumming it" - and having a go/laughing at those of us who had to hit the books and work part time to be able to live - knowing they had a huge safety net if they flunked out, is all there in that song's lyrics and music. The song is completely right for the rage and despair the TRA movement has created.

Fantastic, OP.

also excellent
WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 07/02/2022 15:13

@LilithOfEden that is exactly why I used that song - it illustrates the point so nicely! So a lot of it was kind of written already Grin

Fuck off with your privilege of being able to change your life at any time. Stop playing at being us - in the "Common People" scenario, it's rich students living in wealthy areas with very high family incomes saying but I feel poor so I want the scholarship for disadvantaged students who facing obstacles I can't even imagine and have worked so hard to achieve all they have. Men are saying well I feel like a woman so I want the scholarship for women who have faced additional barriers all their lives in a patriarchal society and have worked so hard to achieve all they have.

Why the fuck can't people see this? (Obvs all the women here can see it, but it's infuriating that we have to spend our time getting it out there and explaining it to people, oh and getting arrested and houses searched for trying to do so...)

And just in case I've outed myself as some people in my life know I made that song Wink and also just (ironically) for full disclosure, I speak as someone who had had a privileged life at that age. It didn't make me a selfish twat playing and pretending to be something I wasn't. I was just grateful for all that I did have and recognised how privileged I was. Unlike fucking men these days who are playing and pretending, stupid as well as ignorant.

Eeek, and obviously I have lost the ability to punctuate in the intervening years! I wrote that song in 2018 Shock

Some of these are brilliant!

Not 'choice' nor 'kindness' -
But women's liberation
Will free our daughters

GreenWhiteViolet · 07/02/2022 15:58

You identify
And demand we believe you.
Still - it is not true.

GreenWhiteViolet · 07/02/2022 16:08

Women's minds are not
Your terra nullius. See?
Gender is a lie.

may not self declare as
