GMC suspends doctor who harassed/abused a woman for TWO YEARS

Outrageous. Doctor guilty of harassing abusing and assaulting a woman - and also harassing a second woman, is suspended for nine months.

I do not want this doctor treating women or girls.

How on earth was he not struck off?

www.walesonline.co.uk/news/uk-news/doctor-who-climbed-through-colleagues-22956990

'Dr Sivakumar became angry if the female doctor did not do as he demanded and answer his repeated attempts to contact her, the tribunal was told.

On one occasion, Dr Sivakumar climbed though Dr A’s bedroom window in the night, held her hands together while she lay in bed and then refused to let her to get out of bed.

He was also physically abusive towards her both in public and in private on other occasions, the hearing was told.'

'the tribunal decided not to strike Dr Sivakumar off and instead suspended him for nine months.'

A doctor who climbed through a female colleague’s window in the middle of the night, restrained her by the neck and pushed her against a wall has been suspended.

"Restrained her by the neck" is this how we're describing grabbing someone by the throat now? We all know what this means and what it indicates. These were not the actions of an "immature" man, they are the actions of a violent abuser.

It beggars belief that he was not struck off.

ScreamingMeMe · 03/02/2022 15:19

Holy shit.

PearPickingPorky · 03/02/2022 15:24

"Restrained her by the neck" has connotations that the unreasonable women required restraining, and he just chose the wrong method to do it.

Whereas what actually happened was she was entirely reasonably and sensibly trying to get away from him and he wouldn't let her.

Hestyo · 03/02/2022 15:30

It's never-ending. Can't have this young man's promising career wrecked by a woman.
They keep emphasising he's a young man, which reminds me of news articles which refer to an 18 year old female as a woman, but an 18 year old male as a teenager. I wonder how old he actually was.
Also interesting to see this happened between 2013 and 2016. I wonder why the tribunal is only happening now. I also wonder if the police were involved at all. They fucking should have been.

FOJN · 03/02/2022 15:30

I've just been reading the tribunal decision, he abused 3 female colleagues.

How can they not see a pattern of harassment and abuse which continued even after he'd received a solicitors letter on behalf of one of the women and had been spoken to by his employer because of complaints made by another. The tribunal also found he lied.

Hestyo · 03/02/2022 15:31

Yes, false imprisonment would have been a better description. "Restrained her by the neck", pffft.
BewareTheBeardedDragon · 03/02/2022 15:37

Well that is utterly sickening. I wonder if people can complain about an unduly lenient punishment? It is in the public interest that no woman or girl should ever be placed in the power of this vile excuse of a man, as they will certainly be if he is allowed to continue in a trusted position after 9 months. Do they seriously think he will change? Confused He won't, they never do.

DomesticatedZombie · 03/02/2022 16:27

I don't know, Beware. I can't see any mention of appealing - or questioning a decision on the website.

He may have been 'young' but he was also senior to at least one of the women. What about their youth, wrecked by this violent, terrifying bully?

He can appeal the sanction.

what does he need to do to get struck off? kill someone? The General Medical Council are a joke

MedusasBadHairDay · 03/02/2022 16:56

Fucking hell. It's beyond a joke

IncompleteSenten · 03/02/2022 17:00

Lovely yet another male doctor who hates women. I would not like to be a patient of his!

So he stalked and harassed her, repeatedly assaulted her, broke into her house, held her hostage and strangled her.

Never mind not struck off - How the fuck is he not in prison?

Men can it seems do whatever the fuck they want to women and get no more than a slap on the wrist

TheWeeDonkey · 03/02/2022 17:06

Why is this guy not in prison? And is Wales that desperate for Doctors they'll retain a sociopath?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 21:53

As others said: he should be in prison!

Goatsaregreat · 03/02/2022 21:58

It's quite incredible just how often the medical establishment openly favours men who harm women over the need to keep women safe. Time after time.

BlowDryRat · 03/02/2022 22:48

He should be in prison, not treating patients.

bishophaha · 03/02/2022 22:53

fuck.ing.hell

seriously!
What is going on?!

bishophaha · 03/02/2022 22:55

OP would you fancy making a thread about this in Chat/AIBU? To gauge what punishment people might expect?
This stuff should be more widely known rather than the inconvenient abuse and killing of women tucked away in the naughty corner.

9 months suspension. words fail.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 03/02/2022 23:16

Bear in mind that a popular GP was sent to prison for 3 years for stealing from his practice. It was a substantial sum and I'm sure we've seen people spared jail for addiction but he was sentenced because of his responsible position and professional standing. He may yet have to go before MPTS and face being struck off.

Police investigated and Chhapia admitted, 'I fd up'.

His fraud was described as 'relatively unsophisticated' as he transferred into accounts in his own name.

Of the £1.13 million he embezzled, he paid back £238,000 and gambling companies will pay back £904,000.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10170141/Popular-GP-jailed-three-years-stealing-1-1m-pay-gambling-habit.html

Given how terrified those women must have been, I know who I'd have expected to see sentenced to imprisonment.

garlicgingerandchilli · 03/02/2022 23:29

Having had previous experience with the GMC (being unreasonably questioned during their enquiry and made to look stupid publicly) then subsequently (years later) going to Old Bailey to give evidence re a now guilty gp who is serving his 10+ year sentence. The gp in question had abused more than 600 patients.
The GMC protect the drs and not patients. I'm disgusted by their actions and for what they stand for. They definitely do not have the patients best interest at heart. One day I'm sure they will be investigated. (Name change)

Rhannion · 04/02/2022 01:24

FFS this is sickening. 🤬🤬🤬
I think more people need to know about this OP. I think you should start another thread in AIBU to get this appalling situation better known.

Apparently suspending him for longer would interfere too much with his surgical training, because it is of course really important that we have another arrogant woman despising male surgeon with limited communication skills and zero self awareness.

I wonder how the women he harassed at home and work , threatened, physically and verbally abused, stalked and attacked in their own homes are getting on with their career plans.
