Excellent.

Hoardasurass · 31/01/2022 08:15

Nice to see police Scotland and Ritchie (through spokesman) doubling down and repeating his discriminatory statements even after his presumably unintended (yes am being overly generous) discrimination was pointed out to him written plainly for all to see.
I m really getting sick of Stergon and her thought police

MidsomerMurmurs · 31/01/2022 08:19

Police Scotland said it did not want to comment on the complaint by Fair Play for Women. A spokesman also reiterated Ritchie’s statement

FFS. “Reiterating” Ritchie’s statement is commenting on Fair Play For Women’s complaint. Police Scotland needs serious reform and some adults in the room.

Nice clear article. I am sure there will be a few Times readers spluttering over their porridge this morning. Well done Nicolas Murray and Wlliams. Star

highame · 31/01/2022 08:20

It is, but as usual, their are only 11 comments at the moment. Every single one is being held up. I thought our beliefs were protected, silly me

highame · 31/01/2022 08:21

there

PearPickingPorky · 31/01/2022 08:38

I don't think the EHRC will take it on, I think they are playing their cards very carefully on this one, but good for sunlight nonetheless.

Police Scotland though, madness.

I suppose it's easier for the whole Scottish police force to be captured by a handful of ideologues since they brought the eight regional forces under one umbrella.

PandorasMailbox · 31/01/2022 08:42

Yes. I think any sunlight is good at this point tbh.

Comments are being slow, but that happened yesterday and all of my comments (even the angry ones) were eventually allowed.

Use of the word 'spokesman' rather than 'spokesperson' for the police at the end there, which I like to think is deliberate and pointed.

Good point

Thanks for link.

Didn't that Chapman woman just say there's nothing to worry about in reforming the GRA because all the exceptions contained therein can be easily enforced so it's absolutely fine for women, nothing to see here.

And here is the police saying they are deplorable, unacceptable and implying that they're also illegal.

And Chapman was hopping mad when everyone was challenging her on the reform, saying it won't work. Ffs.

Datun · 31/01/2022 09:29
  • Exceptions in the equality act, not the GRA
Datun · 31/01/2022 09:41

The EHRC needs to make an unequivocal statement saying that women only services are entirely legal if they meet the threshold of a proportionate means to a legitimate aim.

And give some examples of that, including rape counselling services, which is one of the bloody examples contained in the act.

And that Nicola Murray is entirely within the law to refuse to direct women to ERCC as a result of it being run by a male born individual (never mind that individual's obnoxious comments regarding their own users).

They need to make it clear that it's not a concession to allow women to do this, it's not a favour or a courtesy. It's the law and a completely deliberate one to ensure women's rights.

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2022 09:42

Yes, that would be good, Datun. What on earth is the point of the law if it's never acknowledged, used or upheld?

Datun · 31/01/2022 10:26

@ArabellaScott

Yes, that would be good, Datun. What on earth is the point of the law if it's never acknowledged, used or upheld?
And the police are implying that it's unacceptable and discriminatory.

It's an absolute bloody disgrace, they should be sanctioned.

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2022 10:50

Yes. And retrained.

Lovelyricepudding · 31/01/2022 12:10

What is the police's opinion on disabled parking places? Are they illegal? A hate crime?

"Deplorable", one must assume.
EdinburghFeminist · 31/01/2022 13:26

I can’t see comments at all, is that just me?

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 31/01/2022 14:32

I can't either, though I used to. Great article. Very clear.

DontLikeCrumpets · 31/01/2022 19:49

Given that the EHRC indicated that new guidance on single sex spaces was imminent, perhaps this is a fortuitous event as it underlines how those protecting the right for singe-sex spaces are being targeted by police who seemingly are working hand in glove with TRAs.

"This article has been removed"???

Albatrossing · 31/01/2022 20:21

Looks like the article has been taken down (or is this a problem with the Share token in some way... [she says hopefully])
