Apologies for the DM link and if I've missed another thread on this but I think I'm in love with the CEO of Giggle! Shame it's in Australia but we can but hope more start speaking up.

That's really brave of them. Or stunning and brave Grin the backlash will be crazy. Female is female, it's a sex not a gender identity so it's different. The app is specifically for females she says so that's it. I'm sure that girls school chain who said they won't accept trans girls even said it's specifically to remain single sex and that trans boys wouldn't automatically be excluded from applying since they're still female. Sex can't be changed. There have always been women's groups without being called phobic anything so why is having a female group any different? It's really weird.

FOJN · 27/01/2022 15:33

I think it's brilliant she's speaking from Australia. The erasure of women's spaces is global so whenever a woman speaks up she gives others confidence.

TW scored a bit of an own goal with giggle by accusing Sall of transphobia before she'd had chance to go live with access for them, it was their actions and not Sall's original intentions which excluded them from the app. If only they'd not called her a TERF she wouldn't have fallen down the rabbit hole!

BraveBananaBadge · 27/01/2022 16:02

The tone of that PN enquiry - "will this error be fixed"?!

No surprise of course but just more proof of their agenda. There's no statement Sall could make that would stop them running the story they wanted to. It's dishonest and it's bullying.

NonnyMouse1337 · 27/01/2022 16:10

Ha! These dudes always have to drag in 'women of colour'. Nah, I managed to sign up just fine, pal. My dark skin doesn't magically turn you into a woman.

Helleofabore · 27/01/2022 16:25

Sal is now very resolute. I remember when she had not yet been exposed and was sitting on a very large fence.

Helleofabore · 27/01/2022 16:26

Then they came for her....

You are right FOJN, if they had not come for her she might still be playing fence sitter.

TonyThreePies · 27/01/2022 16:28

She added she wanted trans women to be a part of the app when Giggle was in the early stages of its development.

'I find it to be the epitome of sexism that publications such as PinkNews will accuse a company of “transphobia” while completely forgetting that there are trans people we cater for: Female trans people.

Any other media picking this up? I can see this being the DMs angle but wondering what others are saying?

Owlink · 27/01/2022 16:31

I remember her trying, on Twitter to "be kind" but she soon realised whatever inch you offer to TRA'S, they will want a mile and then another mile. Seems to me, they're not after "being" women but destroying womanhood.

Yes, it's a stage many of us go through. You try hard at the start to be reasonable, 'be kind', hoping it's all a misunderstanding, that some sort of sensible compromise can be reached. But no, that's not possible. No matter how much you bend backwards, it will never be good enough. Finally you think 'fuck that'. 😆

Gets a brief mention in Janice Turner's column today:

Right?!?! Every time a TRA brings up race, it's so telling how awful they are.

The important thing here is that she has published the contact from PinkNews, it is this lobbying from journalists that is the cause of many problems (not just trans rights), she's basically called them out.

It's basically asking for a response, because then they can generate a story out of the response.

I particularly hate the line journalists use "people say/people report". Have they? Does they actually exist? Or is it just the journalist and their own opinions?

Scraggythang · 27/01/2022 18:19

If it’s happening in Australia it will happen here. Bravery inspires bravery. This is just common sense. Who knows what this year will bring.

That was my point, Boots - framing what they're asking her about as an "error" that needs "to be fixed" means they've got their story dismissing her as a 'transphobe' however she replies. It's a stitch up by a not-very-enquiring mind.

They can accuse her even if she gives in and changes the app because they've 'exposed' her, and especially if she doesn't of course. It's an odious way to operate and nothing I'd call journalism.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/01/2022 19:50

Good strong, clear statements.

I'm still not keen on 'giggle' though. Perhaps she could develop a site for older members of the sisterhood - Cackle, maybe?Grin

Timefortea4 · 27/01/2022 19:54

I admire Sali so much. Not surprised but disappointed to see pink news targeting her when she's pregnant. This will inevitably lead to more abuse directed at her.

ChikaCherryCola · 27/01/2022 20:00

I love how she said that she's seen no evidence that suggests transwomen are female. Well ain't that just true?

It shouldn't be brave to day these things, but it is.

BootsAndRoots · 27/01/2022 20:13

The article on PinkNews refers to females as "females" with a deliberate use of quotation marks.

They know what they're doing, and it makes it seem like female isn't actually a real thing now.

ThatsWhenTheCannibalismStarted · 27/01/2022 20:21

Sall on The Mess We're In a few months ago

VelvetChairGirl · 27/01/2022 20:23
