www.spectator.co.uk/article/are-sex-offenders-exploiting-trans-rights-policies-behind-bars-

According to this recent article, by James Kirkup in the Spectator on 19th January, the most recent statistics available from the Ministry of Justice show that 18% of the men in prison who aren't trans identified, are currently serving time for sexual offences.

Amongst those who identify as transwomen, the percentage jumps to "between 60 and 61.3%". (That's those who don't have a GR certificate, because statistics covering those with a GRC are harder to separate out from the female prison population and are not yet available).

I believe women have been banned from twitter for sharing these official government statistics. Some people feel very strongly that this is information that needs to be kept out of the public sphere.

That suggests an upward trajectory - from 57% in 2019 to over 60% in 2021.It seems pretty evident that "men who commit sexual offences are more likely than others to claim to be transgender". Trans-rights advocates won't concede that the system can be exploited because the system IS self-id and affirmation-only. Because there is no "false" self-id, no method of distinguishing between "genuine" trans and opportunistic "trans".

The people at GB news would have all the women on this site banned from the internet and forced into the kitchen if they could.

To be fair, there are a number of commenters here or elsewhere who would have us all banned from the internet and forced into gulags for re-education if they could. Same impulse, just a different place for the imprisonment and re-education…

That was a great piece, well done Sarah Philimore and Graham Linehan and thank you Andrew Doyle for FSN.

Having said that, 2 things annoyed me:

  1. I wish GL would keep a crib sheet of sources. It was so important that he brought up Kate Coleman's study, but it would have been better if he had been able to cite her expertise as Dr Kate Coleman of Keep Prisons Single Sex kpssinfo.org in order to counter Andrew Doyle saying he knew nothing of the head injury stats. It felt to me that this important point was easily dismissed by AD's ignorance of the matter, and an opportunity lost to inform the audience of the work of this group.
  1. Andrew Doyle's sign off that, "This is a sensitive issue." I hate this phrase. Sensitive to whom? Whenever this is said in this context, it is never the sensitivity or sensibilities of women and girls that is being referred to.. Anything can be a sensitive issue to just about anyone. It's just another phrase in the, "Be Kind (to utterly unreasonable people)" play book. This is about safeguarding, safety and dignity, not to mention, free speech, police overreach and the dubious actions of a once respected children's charity/organisation. Logic, statistics, science, law and millennia of female experience of violence at the hands of men are the issues, not "sensitivity".

There are two other statistic we need to make sense of this - what is the population size for TW and, from this, what proportion of TW are sex offenders?

LillethofEden that's a good point about Graham. I wish he would keep these exact sources and facts to hand too.
I believe G has said before that he suffers from ADHD and has so many thoughts racing through his head it can be hard to control. He often seems to come across this way.

Nonetheless, I agree Sarah and him together did a great job. As long as Andrew Doyle keeps coming back to this he'll just keep hacking away at the subject. What with GB News (and Talk Radio seem ti have picked up the mantle too).....I'm hoping (against hope?) that MSM soon pick up this subject for series interview. Not just a 50 sec slot on Andrew Marr or Lorraine Kelly 🙄

*serious interview

He's also post chemotherapy and that has a profound effect on some people's memories.

PatsArrow · 24/01/2022 11:24

Good point. I'd forgotten about that.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 24/01/2022 14:10

Plus, he's speaking on live tv and that can make you a bit flustered.

There's no way of knowing. As it stands currently I can be a transman on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and a woman the rest of the time.

Self ID means there is no recording of who identifies as trans.

Glinner · 24/01/2022 17:01

The crib sheet is a good idea, thank you! Maybe I'll start one up in Workflowy (everyone should use Workflowy, I'm not being paid to say that. It fact it would be more likely they would pay me not to mention them)

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/01/2022 17:22

Thanks @Glinner. You and @Spero were great!

ArabellaScott · 24/01/2022 17:53

Grin You could seek sort of reverse sponsorship, Glinner.

BettyFilous · 24/01/2022 18:01

Well done yesterday @Spero and @Glinner. You got a lot of points across and complemented each others’ contributions well. It was also good that Andrew understands the issues at stake and gave you space to make your points. I laughed at Sarah’s comment about her dog’s photo on the police database. 😄

Glinner · 24/01/2022 18:31

thank you!
