Says a Scottish charity funded by the taxpayer:

I do wonder if these people would let a 12 year old get a tattoo. I think most would say it's best to wait.

rogdmum · 16/01/2022 07:56

It’s utter madness

Haudyourwheesht · 16/01/2022 08:00

provided that applicants can fully demonstrate they understand the legal, social and personal implications of a legal change to their status.

At 12, they can't.

PatriotCanes · 16/01/2022 08:04

It's bloody obvious what this is really all about, isn't it. Let children consent to changing their legal sex. Let children consent to getting a tattoo. Let children consent to sex with an adult. Children know their own minds after all.

I have a 12 year old. He doesn't even know how long to toast a crumpet for but he should be able to understand the long term implications of puberty blockers? He has to leave the room if there's kissing on the telly FFS.

rogdmum · 16/01/2022 08:06

One of their directors is an SNP councillor. Says it all really.

And yet according to one of the comments on the article, this charity also recommends the raising of the legal age of criminal responsibility to 18. So not old enough to be responsible for wrongdoing but old enough , six years earlier , to take decisions which will impact your future life.

rogdmum · 16/01/2022 08:21

Another director, Brigid Daniel, is supposed to be an expert in child protection:

“ Following qualification as a social worker, she practised in Edinburgh before moving to Dundee University to teach on post-qualifying courses in childcare and protection. She moved on to Stirling University as Senior Lecturer in Social Work and then returned to Dundee as the Professor of Child Care and Protection and Director of Studies of Child Care and Protection.”

How can anyone with her background not understand the massive child protection issues around this proposal?

TheWeeDonkey · 16/01/2022 08:38

Why the urgency though? From what I remember 12 year olds are pretty mercurial and the ones that do have their heads screwed on are not the type to rush into something like this.
So the question is why? Who benefits?

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 16/01/2022 09:10

Why the urgency though?

yes indeed

what does giving a 12 year old a piece of paper to tell them that they have a different social construct now to the one society typically associates with their sex actually DO for them?

unless it's not really about helping gender questioning children at all?

IvyTwines · 16/01/2022 09:22

This would also legally allow teenage males to access single sex girls' schools, toilets, changing rooms, dormitories, swimming and sports teams and all the rest of it. What could possibly go wrong there?

Gottasinggottadance · 16/01/2022 09:26

I keep thinking I can no longer be shocked by what's happening in Scotland, and then along comes some new development.

Hoardasurass · 16/01/2022 09:30

This is a step to far for many of the be kind people (not gender identity believers as such) who I know and I've already had several very interesting discussions this morning and all except 1 are well on there way to peak transing.
I will gladly help fund any group who are willing to take the Scottish government to court to stop this

EnfysPreseli · 16/01/2022 09:30

Hasn't the Children's Commissioner in Scotland changed his position on self-id for young people? I thought he was now arguing for more caution.

rogdmum · 16/01/2022 09:41

Yes, the Children’s Commissioner Scotland originally proposed lowering the age to 12 in his response to the first consultation, but had a far more cautious response to the second consultation. He was also not involved in the drafting of the recent ScotGov guidance to schools, nor has he endorsed it, despite formally endorsing the previous version by LGBT Youth Scotland.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2022 09:50

Are we allowed to ask who benefits from affirming children's confusion around their bodies, and creating dangerous situations behind the parebts backs?

Or will that get deleted.

They are 12. They need firm nos /boundaries from us to keep them.safe as they Try pushing the limits.

Its a normal stage it doesn't meed pathologisimg

Helleofabore · 16/01/2022 10:03

And yet, we now have transitioned males who are gender affirmation surgeons saying that children don’t understand and that more therapy is needed before any hormone or surgical treatment is given. Effectively saying, slow down the current treatment is not working as well as it should. It is harming trans people and non trans people.

Yet the Scottish government is going to listen to people advocating for immediate action on changing legal documents because a 12 year old say so.

QueenPeony · 16/01/2022 10:07

He doesn't even know how long to toast a crumpet for

That made me laugh! I can still burn a crumpet and I’m in my 50s.

I agree this is not just appallingly wrong but extremely dodgy with horrible ramifications. I can only think it’s the result of thinking that what the trans lobby tells you is gospel because otherwise you’d be a bigot, and being unable to get out of that mindset.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2022 10:11

I dont even understand what's wrong with a reflection period. We " sleep on" all minds of decisions..with good reason. We test drive cars , we visit homes you are thinking about buying often nore than once.

Many items like.mattresses etc come with the ability to send back within 30 days of its not for you.

Its good to research , think about and be cautious with decisions. Because you cant usually take them back if you make the wrong one..

If the plan is to spend the rest of your life that way then why is it too hard to spend three months doing it. I thought it was all just admin amd no one ever sees it anyway. So who'd know?

MrBIobby · 16/01/2022 10:32

This is so abusive and a deliberate physical and psychological attack on the health and wellbeing of our younger generations. Which will destroy many of their lives and impact on their health and ability to to have children. I wonder what possible reasons would adults have to destroy the health and fertility of mass groups of children and rush irreversible decisions through like this...

MrBIobby · 16/01/2022 10:39

Reasons not to have a reflection period. Well a reflection period policy only benefits the buyer. And never the seller. Who wants to drive through their product and idea through quickly with no opportunity for change. We can see why financially sellers would want to do this. To secure financial profit.

What form does the 'profit' take here? Not just financial. It's far bigger than that.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2022 10:44

Well we can all see that. Sadly we can't say.

We cant even talk about why we are supoosed to believe that the adults of today who are predominantly adult males as that was the cohort at the time, have everything in common.with the majority cohort of today which is teenage girls.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 16/01/2022 10:54

I have an 11 year old who can just about be trusted to load the dishwasher. He is still yet to work out that if he does it properly the first time then he wont be called back three times to finish the job, thus making it take twice as long. He also needs reminding to use shower gel and we have some strict automatic time limits on his computer use because he can't self regulate and would spend a full 24 hours playing roblox if he could.
And yet Scotland thinks that in a few months he's capable of making a decision like changing his "legal gender".

I too would like to comment on what I feel are the motives of some of the People pushing for this. But I cAn't as I know I will gEt a DeletiOn.

Huh, my shift key seems to be malfunctioning.

Datun · 16/01/2022 11:21

That's horrifying.

The single biggest indication that a child will continue to transition is social transition.

They are making it legal for a child to begin a path that is more likely to end in surgery and hormones, without their parents being able to say a damn thing about it - at age 12.

Where is the bloody evidence? They talk about trans children, loads of them, as though it's a thing. Where is the evidence? What's it caused by?

There's always this yawning gap. The child is 'trans', you question it, and you are told they have gender dysphoria. Where has it come from then?

That's the gap. Gender dysphoria - a medical condition to transgender, an ideological one.

They talk about 'coming out', and using all the terms you would use for sexual orientation makes it an ideological position. And then setting it in stone for little kids to follow without their parents consent, resulting in becoming a lifelong medical patient.

Horrifying.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2022 11:26

The Tavistocks own study showed no improvement in the mental health of the children they " treated". So yes where is the evidence that this is best fir them coming from. Because frankly all we see is adult intact males who have careers and families etc everything that these children will be robbed of, claiming they wish they'd have had the option.

Not forgetting the Swedish documentary where kids who did have this option now have the skeleton of an 80 yr old.
