Shame on every board member at Children in Scotland for this dangerous nonsense.

@rogdmum

One of their directors is an SNP councillor. Says it all really.

I'd never heard of this organisation before.

'Children in Scotland is the national agency for voluntary, statutory and professional organisations and individuals working with children and their families. Established in 1983 as the Scottish Child and Family Alliance, it now has over 400 member organisations'

Suppose a 12 year old came to a councillor and said 'I don't like my nose and its making me feel self conscious and don't feel like I can be myself or be confident because of it and I want to get a nosejob'. I'd very much hope the councillor would not agree that plastic surgery was the right solution and would try to make the child feel more confident and to work out why they feel like they can't be themselves and help them to work through those issues
Then why is it different with gender, why is changing ones gender and potientially plastic surgery and/or hormone replacement therapy a potiential solution to this. Surely they should be trying to encourage that child into being able to feel like they can act in whatever way they want and love who they want and do what they want whatever their gender and shouldn't need this to be who they are.
Also is changing gender really going to solve these problems. It seems to me that transitioning is almost like some magical solution that will solve all of their problems when is it? People feeling like they can't act in the way they want or be comfortable without changing gender is a big problem but it is a problem with society and not with that person. Gender is a human created concept. I think them feeling this way is due to problems in society and not them 'being born in the wrong body'. They weren't born in the wrong body, they don't conform to society's expectations of someone with that body. The solution to this just shouldn't be for them to change their gender but for us to make changes to society and try to encourage and support them in acting in the way they want and being who they are without all of this. I don't think we should be normalising this as a solution. I don't think that gender should determine how you live. People often say that coming out as trans is brave and I agree with this. I think acknowledging that you feel uncomfortable being who you are in your body and that you don't conform to gender norms is incredibly brave. However I think it would be braver and better in the long term to say ok yes I don't conform to those expectations but to move past this and act in the ways you want without changing your gender.

Yes, for sure, ABHL. Agree with all of that.

'transitioning is almost like some magical solution that will solve all of their problems '

Yep. And if you listen to some of the detransitioners speaking out now, it doesn't.

It's not possible to be 'born in the wrong body'. What does that even mean? It's a very odd idea, if you look at it closely. Which part of the person is in the wrong body? I would say no part of us is outwith the body.

Children in Scotland run a national information and advice resource for children with SEN (Enquire). Many of these children are being failed in schools across Scotland. They even have factssheets advising about exclusion and school attendance anxiety/refusal, and point parents and children in the direction of court for disability discrimination. They know well how disabled children are excluded from education.

During the Scottish Government election they produced a manifesto. Under 'diversity' (which included disability) did they mention anything do to with disability? About improving access to education? Inclusion for these children? No. Their only point under diversity was to push the new Scottish Gov to amend the GRA.
