Medical Women's Federation - TWAW

The medical women's federation have tweeted their support that TWAW.

twitter.com/medicalwomenuk/status/1479390017063723010?s=21

The original tweet has a very depressing thread of doctors, DOCTORS, asserting that a woman is anyone who says they are and that deniers of this are against biology!

I feel so let down by my medical colleagues that so many have no grasp of biology and science! I despair.

If a woman is anyone who says they are, then so is a man, perhaps we should all go in the mens toilets on mass to wash out our moon cups in the sinks and demand sanitary bins and tampax vending machines.

I wonder if tampons fit down the drains of the urinals

Enough4me · 09/01/2022 16:34

@VelvetChairGirl, I like this in theory, but in practice it impacts negatively on regular men and the weirdos would love it. Also some wouldn't see it because they would be in the women's loos anyhow.

Sadly I think it will take a lot more stats showing increased sexual violence before more MPs will speak up.

Enough4me · 09/01/2022 16:46

Shared Times link above as some women MPs are standing up for women's rights. We need more MPs, male and female to represent facts for us.

@HereticFanjo the guy I know of on there is happily married, gay and would fully see any footnotes to TWAW as the same as homophobia. Very clever guy.

PermanentTemporary · 09/01/2022 16:51

Oh and British.

Well he's clearly not that clever then, is he? Because TWATW. That's a really bad acronym. Maybe that's why 'transwomen are transwomen' never took off 😬 even though it's objectively true.

BlueberryCheezecake · 09/01/2022 22:43

@TurquoiseBaubles

Added to which it's really dangerous.

There's a transwoman in those threads who is insisting that since hormone treatment has caused breasts to grow, it's important to watch out for breast cancer. However, since the hormones also cause the prostate to shrink ConfusedHmm there is now no worry about prostate issues.

That can't be right, surely?

Why wouldn't it be right? It's perfectly true. Taking oestrogen increases the risk of breast cancer and reduces the risk of prostate cancer. If you know anything about biology, as you lot consider it so important, it's obvious why too.

This is why recognition of trans people is important in medicine. Because trans people don't have risk profiles exactly like their birth sex. It actually is more complicated than that.

Oh and British.
Yes I know some of the doctors commenting on the original tweet and they are British. Some are Canada from their bios.

It's odd, because if TWAW then W ceases to be tangible and defined, therefore negating any meaning to TWAW, because we are all the same one big pot. 'Woman' ceases to exist in itself.

Enough4me · 10/01/2022 00:49

It is all a mash up of language. It appears there is no point transitioning MtW as the word women has disappeared, it's a free for all.

The definitions female, male and trans are still important for single sex spaces and healthcare. With trans needing third spaces, which they need to campaign for as female and male do not cater for their more specific needs.

Bambooshoot · 10/01/2022 02:49

@BlueberryCheezecake - if recognition of trans people in medicine is, as you say, important to appreciate the very particular medical conditions they may have, why are they not standing proud and campaigning that “Transwomen are transwomen and transmen are transmen” instead of claiming to have magically changed sex to the extent they have assumed a new body (and the associated medical conditions) and should only be referred to as their “new” sex in all cases? This does not make sense.

No one's arguing that it isn't, or that TQ+ people shouldn't be recognised in medicine.

The point is the one you're making here: TW and TM are not the same thing as female.

So erasing female in medicine for political illusions that benefit a male TW population does absolutely nothing helpful for anyone, and is causing major issues for 51% of the population who are female. Without solving the TQ+ medical issue.

TWATW. TMATM. Women are adult human females.

Three groups. Three different needs. End of problem.
