So apparently the Lamster DOES support some women who need safe spaces:

Can’t open the page. Is it ‘in the kitchen’?

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 05/01/2022 12:04

Ooops sorry it was from his instagram. Might not work if you don't have an account (?)

Dave has been visiting a women's DV refuge. Sistah Space. They have also tweeted about it here:

Have posted the images in my previous message. Can you see them?

He went and supported (and had a photo op) outside a charity that offers support services to females of African heritage who have suffered from DV.

ShagMeRiggins · 05/01/2022 12:22

Yes, they’re up now.

Lammy aside, this prompted me to look up Sistah Space. I wholly approve of their use of “women and girls” throughout the website.

It looks like they do incredible and essential work.

The charity say in their tweet that they have explained to Dave, among others, why they need a safe space & that he understands.

Let's hope so!

I don't think people realise how vital it is that ethnicities or faiths have their own refuges, so good for him for raising awareness. Its damage limitation for him, at least he isn't calling us rights hoarding dinosaurs this week.

Indeed. Used to live in a part of London with a high population of African heritage residents, and Valerie’s story moved me. The same happened to a family near us, went to high school with their kids.

Made sure I dropped a small donation before I left their website. I really want them to get that car to enable them to collect victims. Sad

Scraggythang · 05/01/2022 12:43

Guess women are only hoarding their rights depending on who he has to appeal to on that day.

Unless he’s had a change of heart?…

Cailleach1 · 05/01/2022 12:45

I suppose he heard their words at least. That he understands them or empathises with those women and girls remains less certain. I've heard the woman/man/furry speak, so am sceptical of her/his/furry level of understanding of simple biology or simple understanding of what a woman is.

I'd imagine his PR team very loudly suggested he create some photos with marginalised women and girls. So, probably for his own image first and foremost.

At the very least I hope the refuge does benefit (attract donations) from the publicity and don't attract any intimidation or ire for their recognition of, and support for, women and girls. Politicians with views such as DL have been instrumental in legislation and policies which result in the withdrawal or denial of public funding for such refuges that offer a safe space to heal for women and girls.

TInkyWlnky · 05/01/2022 12:47

This is the same David Lammy who accused women of being rights hoarding dinosaurs for wanting to protect women's safeguards. Hmm

Goatsaregreat · 05/01/2022 12:48

I'm trying not to be cynical about his level of opportunism and am just grateful if these wonderful women are leading him back from his previous appalling attitudes towards women and girls.
There's such a massive groundswell of public opinion openly challenging the rhetoric about women and girls being an identity and not in need of safe single sex resources that hopefully the once captured labour party politicians are recognising that they've got this very wrong.

Important for ALL women's refuges to feel safe.

Of course, isn't a woman no more than a man ingesting a few synthetic hormones and jimmying up some male body parts to recreate a cervix (in DL's eyes). Voila.

Having heard DL, I am sceptical of breadth of understanding or intent. Maybe it is because DL (or PR team) is detecting how the wind might be changing. Nothing so admirable and full of integrity as a fair weather politician friend.

StopStartStop · 05/01/2022 12:58

Which I don't intend to overlook. Despite thinking that women's support organisations need all the help they can get. If his involvement leads to more help for women, maybe it's ok. Personally, I'd not consider him a 'feminist' or ally.
StopStartStop · 05/01/2022 13:00

Oh, all or part of his motivation will be to counteract the ill-will caused by his 'dinosaurs' comment. Calculated.

Holi, No, I saw that you posted them but unfortunately I can't see the images. There's a black no entry type sign and the words User post where the images should appear.

WomanStillNotAFeeling · 05/01/2022 17:50

David Lammy also supports corporal punishment of children and has applied that to his own children. I’ll be honest he doesn’t feel like a natural fit to be talking against domestic violence
