Who the hell is Tom Harwood?

TurquoiseBaubles · 04/01/2022 13:07

because he's really being ratioed on Twitter

twitter.com/tomhfh and twitter.com/tomhfh/status/1478035571146727425 in particular

He seems to have waded in on the trans/schools row. He isn't listening to the many, many replies and is doubling down in the weirdest way.

Mercy Muroki did very well. She is getting into her stride I think.
I'd not noticed that Tom character being so "nice" about manners previously.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 04/01/2022 23:02

I don’t think he has realized that on that occasion and later on, he is wholly relying on ‘be nice’ as a reason.

I think it's so entrenched that women and girls main purpose is to support men and boys, lot of people just assume there's a logical reason behind it. Even when they cannot come up with any logical reasons, they assume that it's a communication problem or they are talking to someone who is a bigot/terf/some type of phobic.

It never dawns on them that their assumption that women and girls have to drop everything to help a sad man or boy is wrong.

That, or he really believes that boys and men can develop ovaries through sheer will.

PriamFarrl · 04/01/2022 23:12

@Alltheprettyseahorses

I believe he's someone wanting to boost GB News' twitter interactions. I have a lot of contempt for the way obscure blue tickers make the odd controversial comment for a bit of profile-boosting attention so while I may argue the toss with 1-follower troll accounts, I always block the blue ticks.
This. I only looked at this thread because I saw his name on Twitter. A suspicious person might this that GB news know the trans debate will get traction and get them noticed.

I think David Lammy believed that that didn't he? Or something very similar.

I think Lammy said that a man can grow a cervix by taking hormones 😬

littlbrowndog · 04/01/2022 23:57

Tom a wee book for you

Helleofabore · 04/01/2022 23:59

YY.

They don't like that we appear to be malfunctioning.

Enough4me · 05/01/2022 00:34

Didn't Lammy say feminists were dinosaurs hoarding rights to cervix owning - like we could pop them out and hand over to men, to be kind?

It's all so twisted, like the incel stories where there are comments that it's fine if women are threatened with rape as we probably confused the men when we should have been supporting them.

nevercis · 05/01/2022 01:34

Six months ago Tom was pushing the 'case by case' approach to TW inclusion in female spaces and despite being royally schooled back then he is still sticking with it on both girls' schools and prisons.

But isn't that a bit, well, transphobic? I mean either all TWAW (and TGAG) or they are not. Who gets to choose which trans-identifying persons qualify for admission to female only spaces and which ones don't - and much more importantly on what criteria? Can you imagine writing the policy for that?

I can't believe he hasn't been called out by the TRAs on this.

Talking of TRAs, is it just me or do they seem to have largely retired from this debate? Compared with how Twitter was a few years ago.

But back to Tom - one has to think that he has some trans identifying friends and that his risible arguments are based on loyalty, because they sure as hell aren't based on science or concern for women.

Finally the contrast in his demeanour when he was discussing the issue with two male colleagues versus with Posie and Mercy was stark. Ingrained misogyny at its finest - so culturally ingrained that he is probably not even aware of it.

I've rtft and I'd like to say, I am very aware of Tom Harwood from the time he didn't know how to use a train. I follow him for the lols. He's a very stupid boy.

zelo-street.blogspot.com/2019/09/virgin-trains-pwns-fawkes-teaboy.html

Trains continue to be difficult for poor Tom. He turned up at the station to get a train to Glasgow to COP26 on time last year and complained it had left without him. Grin

Tom didn't agree in either case he was wrong, he doubled down and kept digging, saying the train operating companies were wrong. Even when thousands of regular train users told he was wrong, he refused to accept it. He's a fool. 🤡

Grumpyosaurus · 05/01/2022 07:49

T. Hardwood seems to think that 'to interview' is defined as 'a chance to grandstand, talk over your interviewee and put words into her mouth'.

Am also channelling Magdalen Berns.

Grin “Why do passengers need to know when they’re departing?” Grin

This was brilliant - thank you for linking!

Yes, he did. He clearly didn’t do basic biology at school.
sashagabadon · 05/01/2022 08:05

I agree with posters that say people use the trans debate to get attention. On both sides now. As it works every time.
When someone new “ stumbles “ into the conversation and you look at their Twitter they have their new book out tweet pinned to the top of their timeline Hmm

This is hilarious! He must really struggle with flights Grin
KittenKong · 05/01/2022 08:57

Are we not certain he’s isn’t Dennis Pennis or Tim Nice But Dim or Rick (?) Lemmon? Just there for comic value?

Scraggythang · 05/01/2022 09:04

In regards to broadcasters and very silly men using this debate to raise their profiles, of course. It makes sense. It’s gradually gaining some momentum and seeping into the general public conscience.

If more news outlets and mainstream television pick up on it purely based on seeing the engagement this subject gets, I can’t see that as a bad thing in the long run. The more we openly can talk about it, the better. No matter how that comes about. Those policies that have been/could be ushered in without any public consultation will have more scrutiny. Let them debate away whatever their ulterior motive!

And if any more men want to raise their profile by looking like angry, ill informed misogynists, then they can go for their lives.

KittenKong · 05/01/2022 09:10

I can’t believe they find these men with no shame. I’d be hiding if I made such a fool of myself in National tv, and social media…

Keke94LND · 05/01/2022 09:27

Mercy definitely rolls her eyes at her cohost at around 07:27 hahaha

Scraggythang · 05/01/2022 09:31

@KittenKong it’s like watching a car crash.

NewYearSue · 05/01/2022 09:36

That train story: oh dear, my diagnosis of dozy seems spot on.

KittenKong · 05/01/2022 09:46

Oh my, I’m sniggering now. Someone has reposted at weekly from Tim from 2020 where he tried to lecture a woman on US law (I suspect he doesn’t do it to men) sneakily asking her how she understood US law after ‘watching a documentary’.

Her reply - ‘I’m a constitutional lawyer Tom’

Of course the doubled down. I suspect the poor lad was actually born with a brass neck.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 05/01/2022 09:47

Lots of men define womens biology as breasts and no penis. That's what 'fully transitioned' means, doesn't it? When we talk about sex and biology, they don't understand or have no interest in ovaries, cervix or fallopian tubes. They really believe they can developed in a similar way to getting breast implants and removing a penis.

They really have no clue how much of a woman's biology isn't shown in porn or advertising and how it impacts on womens lives.
