Tokyo silver medalist Erika Brown speaks out

^“I want to share something that’s been on my heart regarding what is going on in USA Swimming at the moment. I believe that we are all God’s children and we are called to love one another. I don’t want to create any hate, only speak up for what is right.

“We cannot allow transgender females to compete against biological women. A biological male goes through male puberty. Even when she has transitioned, she still has the physiology of a male. A few years of testosterone blockers and estrogen doesn’t change the fact that she will have more powerful muscles, a larger heart and greater lung capacity (than) a biological woman.

“It’s time to start standing up for women’s sports, before we (lose) what so many before us have fought for. I hope that this can help inspire others to speak up.”^

Hurrah for Erika!

Brilliant that we have one of the current generation of Olympians refusing to be bullied and speaking out

Bloody well done Erika!! I really hope she gets a lot of support - she will need it!!!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 31/12/2021 11:29

It shouldn't take this level of courage and personal sacrifice yet it does.

There is a thread running from Sharron Davies to Erika Brown.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 31/12/2021 11:30

The use of 'transgender female' shows how the language has been truly colonised though.

Artichokeleaves · 31/12/2021 11:37

Bravo Erika.

I find it so sad though that women, in desperately trying to argue their case, have both hands tied behind them by having to adhere to a story that just plain is not true in order to be able to speak at all.

We are talking about a male. A male, in female sports. Nothing will ever change this person being male, and the issue is that this sporting category is for females only.

The sheer sexism of preventing females being even able to argue against this is appalling. The feelings of the male person cannot change reality, this is the fact, and it's sexism that is enforcing that females must make some attempt to disguise this and to protect the male person from this reality while still trying to have some equality left over for them.

Helleofabore · 31/12/2021 11:50

Well done Erika Brown.

That's the cornerstone of the TRA argument, isn't it? Make it so you can't actually make your objections clear.

Males in women's sports are cheats, no matter how they identify.

Yes it does

But very well done to Erika, very brave 💐

BettyFilous · 31/12/2021 13:35

The comments under that article are really good.

Clymene · 31/12/2021 13:38

Well done Erika

NotBadConsidering · 31/12/2021 13:45

Good on her! And well done to people like Sharron Davies who has stuck to her guns and paved the way for current athletes by demonstrating the support is there.

EarthStoodHardAsPrion · 31/12/2021 14:02

I hope she will be the first of many other brave sportswomen.

Thank you Erika for your courage.

NotTerfNorCis · 31/12/2021 14:03

Good for her. People's silence has been taken to mean consent. If more are brave enough to speak out, all to the good.

WallaceinAnderland · 31/12/2021 14:21

Fantastic! Such courage and said with love. Who could seriously argue with that. Well done Erika.

RhymesWithOrange · 31/12/2021 14:22

Thank you Erika.

ArabellaScott · 31/12/2021 14:36

Thank you, Erika Brown. Star

GoodnightGrandma · 31/12/2021 14:37

Thank you for saying it 👏🏼

Yes. Although I think more and more, people understand exactly the issue and the sex of the people concerned. Photos of Lia Thomas are a pretty good indication.
PaleGreenGhost · 31/12/2021 15:16

The comments are a superb example of why "no debate" is vital for gender ideology to flourish. As soon as people are allowed to question it with rational arguments and evidence, they've got nothing. No wonder the Guardian can't allow comments most of the time.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2021 15:27

Yes, the comments are like a floodgate has been opened.

LightningJenny · 31/12/2021 15:34

"Diversity, tolerance, acceptance, and love will win the day, and possibly a few races too!"

Oh definitely a few races....

Goatsaregreat · 31/12/2021 16:12

Very brave of a current sportswoman to speak out. Well done her. Hopefully the support she's getting will encourage others to do the same - especially men who are unlikely to get the same backlash.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 31/12/2021 16:37

What a courageous woman! Flowers for you, Erika.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2021 16:43

The other interesting thing is that this swimming mag has published this article - written by their editorial staff. I've got the impression that up till now many such publications have been either overtly in favour of trans competitors in womens sport, or silent on the issue. Maybe that's not accurate?

Maybe the unfairness is so blatant now that they can’t ignore it any more.

I wonder when the Labour Party is going to figure out they've a problem. I wrote to them and got a 'we are on the right side of history' response.

I hope 'no debate' is dead, and we can discuss the impact of self id on women without abuse.
