Thought you would all enjoy this little bit of guerrilla feminism spotted deep in the New Forest, Hampshire today. Brought a little Christmas cheer to my sister and I!

I found a similar thing tucked away beside a popular tourist spot for photos in the scottish highlands. I was delighted!

Leafstamp · 24/12/2021 10:52

You lucky thing! These slates are beautiful.

Please don't. Although I agree with the message, I wish people would leave the countryside alone and not use it as another place to put political billboards, however, small they are.

I already encounter plenty of litter on my walks in my national park, and as cute as this is, I still consider it to be humans littering instead of leaving no trace, which is what we're meant to be doing.

Same as leaving little fairy statues/doors against trees or ribbons on branches. Same as writing messages on stones which you then have no choice to look at when you're on a walk, trying to get away from politics.

Please, please don't. Leave places of nature as they are.

EarthSight · 24/12/2021 13:52

however small they are*

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 24/12/2021 17:20

How uplifting. It's lovely to come across such messages, and realise that women are adding their art to the beauty of nature. It reminds us that we are not alone.

Gingercake2018 · 24/12/2021 17:23

There is a memorial bench in a park near me with a plaque saying something like "dedicated to the victims of the patriarchy".

malanimo · 24/12/2021 17:24

Slightly less profound but I just came across this!

Gingercake. That may have come from FiLiA, I purchased some from there for Christmas presents.

I did a little happy dance and literally squealed when I saw these recently in a branch of THAT bookshop. I was with my 20+ year old daughter who rolled her eyes. She gets it really, but has been indoctrinated by taking a social science degree!

@EarthSight don't worry; I can't use acrylic, which are pretty much the only things that last on stones, as I can't bare the thought of more plastic in soil or water and I never have enough time anyway.

Funnylittlefloozie · 25/12/2021 10:00

I see what you're saying, EarthSight, but suggesting that we pretend that the New Forest is an untouched primeval wilderness is akin to pretending that a sex offender in a wig and a frilly frock is suitable to be sent to a womens prison.

That said, I wouldn't want to see every stone festooned with political slogans either....

EarthSight · 25/12/2021 12:53

I didn't suggest or say that the New Forest was a primeval wilderness.

What I did say is I would like to discourage using the countryside as yet another place in which to leave political messages or litter. I'm glad this slate heart brought joy to someone's day but I wish people would find a different way of doing that.

BlueberryCheezecake · 25/12/2021 14:26

Agree with EarthSight, the forest is not the place for your hateful graffiti. Imagine being a trans person out trying to enjoy nature and get away from it all and you come across an anti-trans message scrawled on a rock, and it reminds you that to some people, you're just not welcome to so much as exist in the world.

ArabellaScott · 25/12/2021 14:31

How's the sign transphobic Blueberry?

codexa · 25/12/2021 14:34

It is not anti trans, it is pro women. I'm all for raising awareness of this simple fact.

Surely it’s only anti-trans if it’s an opinion that the majority of trans people would object to it? Which would only be the case if the majority of trans people believe that men’s validation is more important than women’s safety? That’s a huge generalisation of trans people.

Swirlywoo · 25/12/2021 14:43

Bit of a leap? Confused

Grimchmas · 25/12/2021 14:46

What about it is hateful to trans people please, Blueberry? Can you tell me specifically please?

PatriotCanes · 25/12/2021 14:50

Every time you label a pro-women thing as "anti-trans" BlueberryCheezecake you simply reinforce that for you it's a men's rights issue which one could say is actual transphobia

The slate doesn't mention trans rights. Women are supposed to validate men every day. Every wolf whistle, every request to smile, every assumption of women as support humans - it's all for male validation. Any women knows that, any woman subject to a lifetime of female socialisation gets that. You? Not so much.
