First time I've read mainstream reporting supportive of JKR!!!

OP posts:

There’s nothing wrong with saying “I’m not attracted to men” and/or “I’m not attracted to trans women” and/or “I’m not attracted to anyone with a penis”.

Wow, really? Have you managed to miss what happens to lesbians who say any of these things to males who identify as women?

VestofAbsurdity · 23/12/2021 15:28

I know Arabella, (my first bit didn't bold, I was quoting Helennumbers), the way they hand wave away the abuse and threats directed at lesbians which happens solely because of this pernicious ideology is stomach churning. They think they are oh so clever and conciliatory with their "no-one is saying you have to date someone you don't want to" always, always followed by a BUT and waffle about be kind, TWAW. It's vile and it's homophobia red in tooth and claw.

ArabellaScott · 23/12/2021 15:35

Yes, sorry, I was responding to Helen, Vest!

But of course, as we know, any lesbians reporting their experiences will instantly be labelled and dismissed.

It never happened. If it did happen, it's your fault.

The usual.

We only need look at the response to this article:

VestofAbsurdity · 23/12/2021 16:28

Yes the response to that article was very telling indeed.

There’s nothing wrong with saying “I’m not attracted to men” and/or “I’m not attracted to trans women” and/or “I’m not attracted to anyone with a penis”. Personally I don’t see why it’s necessary to go further and say “I’m not attracted to men and therefore I’m not attracted to trans women

Women have to go further and say that for exactly the same reason my cousin needs to explain, "I'm vegetarian and therefore I don't eat fish" to some of our other relatives and some restaurants. Otherwise she will get presented with fish dishes, and it is far more socially awkward to decline prepared food.

Why? Because there is a body of people who do eat fish and are hellbent on describing themselves as vegetarian not pescetarian, no matter the consequences that muddying the term has on vegetarians.

Who else remembers that time that the Guardian's Blind Date feature set up a lesbian with a transwoman without telling her? That dinner must have been excruciating for her. That's what happens now if lesbians don't say upfront that "I’m not attracted to men and therefore I’m not attracted to trans women".

Maybe, and this is just a hunch, it's because lesbians are being persecuted into sex with some of them?

I mean, in one article alone, there were what? Eighty experiences?

ArabellaScott · 24/12/2021 10:24

Oh, but those eighty lesbians don't count, Datun, because they were the wrong sort of lesbian.

DisgustedofManchester · 24/12/2021 11:08

@ivegotamillionkids

I read this today. Bloody fabulous ❤️
And the tories and anti-immigration. Great bedfellows
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/12/2021 11:30

Isn't it nice that they're joining us lefties, Disgusted? Smile

Thank you for posting this. Informative and spells out the situation to people who may find it confusing.

I can scarcely believe the Guardian did this. How very, very disrespectful.

It’d be like “hiding” meat (zero innuendo intended) in a dish and presenting it to a vegetarian, or serving food cooked with alcohol to a Muslim and not informing them until after they’ve consumed it. It’s a nasty power game.
