[quote PurgatoryOfPotholes]There’s nothing wrong with saying “I’m not attracted to men” and/or “I’m not attracted to trans women” and/or “I’m not attracted to anyone with a penis”. Personally I don’t see why it’s necessary to go further and say “I’m not attracted to men and therefore I’m not attracted to trans women
Women have to go further and say that for exactly the same reason my cousin needs to explain, "I'm vegetarian and therefore I don't eat fish" to some of our other relatives and some restaurants. Otherwise she will get presented with fish dishes, and it is far more socially awkward to decline prepared food.
Why? Because there is a body of people who do eat fish and are hellbent on describing themselves as vegetarian not pescetarian, no matter the consequences that muddying the term has on vegetarians.
Who else remembers that time that the Guardian's Blind Date feature set up a lesbian with a transwoman without telling her? That dinner must have been excruciating for her. That's what happens now if lesbians don't say upfront that "I’m not attracted to men and therefore I’m not attracted to trans women".

I can scarcely believe the Guardian did this. How very, very disrespectful.
It’d be like “hiding” meat (zero innuendo intended) in a dish and presenting it to a vegetarian, or serving food cooked with alcohol to a Muslim and not informing them until after they’ve consumed it. It’s a nasty power game.
