Scottish 'sex census' for children will *not* be anonymous

BBC report yesterday:

'The government insists the census is confidential and voluntary.'

www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-59518427

However the Herald has broken the story that it's neither anonymous nor voluntary:

'the Herald on Sunday has seen privacy documents over the scheme that show that local authorities can act on behalf of children if any answers raise concerns.

This has raised fears that that the controversial survey is a 'named person scheme' through the back door. '

' While the UK's General Data Protection Regulation gives individuals the right to object to the processing of personal data, the information states that where the processing of personal data is for scientific or historical research, or statistical purposes, "these rights to object is more restricted".

...

And it states that parents cannot object to the processing of health and wellbeing data.

"As the data we process is lawfully gathered and necessary for the performance of a task carried out for reasons of public interest, you do not have a right to object to the processing of your personal data," the document states.

It can also not be deleted. '

Some councils are rejecting this survey, I am heartened to see, and several others are reviewing: www.heraldscotland.com/business_hq/19762197.scottish-governments-sex-census-kids-rejected-eight-councils/

To ask such personal questions that if child decides to be honest should be flagged, followed up.

What age was your first sexual experience? 6? 10? 12?
Older of course 14 up means below age of consent.
But they aren't interested in impact on children who have, are currently been sexually abused.
First sex 14. With a 14yo different to a 40 yo.

Such a massive thing to ask CHILDREN when you don't obviously care about how it will make them feel, possibly they will tell truth and hope something be done without having to take first step face to face.

Plus casually presenting that list sends a totally shit message.

I am also surprised that the mention of anal sex in the survey, has been raised in many comments but most (all? Haven't seen any but may have missed it) only mention girls.

Yes girls (and women) are now expected/ pushed to do things that just weren't 'standard' before. That's a big problem.

However the fact is that BOYS can be and are penetrated anally.
Again it takes a bizarrely casual approach to child sexual abuse.
Again. In the family, trusted friend of family or trusted adult. Groomed and abused by older men. If gay/ bi then not unusual, same as other growing teens, to want to grow up, get out there. Want to find out what grown up places are like. Hanging out in town, drinking etc.

And news stories about boys on grinder meeting matches and being assaulted/ raped.

Sexual assault by boys who suspect a boy in gay- when changing etc- does happen. (Not so sure how common).
