Anyone familiar with the biology gallery at the Science Museum?

Telegraph is reporting the sex and biology sections are being updated for not being trans-inclusive enough www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/12/01/science-museum-change-biological-sex-exhibit-complaints-excludes/

Maya Forstater is quoted: "The Science Museum should reflect biology.”

She added: “Sexual reproduction evolved over one billion years ago and it has not changed in recent years.

“It is the reproductive strategy of all higher animals and plants, including humans.

“Helping visitors of all ages to understand this is core to what the Science Museum should be doing.”

“It is concerning that a place dedicated to science is being swayed by cultural trends in this way."

Apparently the gallery already includes a packer and a binder on display!

I don't know how good the scientific information in the gallery already is. Don't know whether to be concerned or is the Telegraph making a mountain of a mole hill?

Do share tokens exist for the Telegraph? I can't get to the article.

Sorry, I know. I believe there are web archive services but we can't link directly to them here?

The Science Museum have form. As do Natural History.
There have been threads previously.

Apologies for Guardian link:

Datun · 01/12/2021 18:24

Strewth. We've already had to do this once when they displayed a whole load of pink brain/blue brain crap.

The science museum is relentlessly targeted by trans groups.

Fenlandia · 01/12/2021 19:01

Apols for another paywalled Telegraph link from the 2016 MN thread, www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/15/why-is-it-suddenly-considered-progressive-to-say-men-and-women-h/, but I was shocked to read the line "Neurologists suddenly rushed to denounce it as “junk science”, the Green Party called for its immediate removal on the grounds of sexism, and the Science Museum promised to “look again” at the exhibit to ensure it reflects “the latest scientific evidence”.

The Green Party?? These days they would probably condemn the pink-blue brain test as being phobic for being insufficiently inclusive of the other 120 genders

I stickered the hell out of the science museum last time I went during the pink brain blue brain fiasco, and vowed never to return or support them in any way ever again.

It's the connection to medical practice that gets people in a pickle. They assume medicine is science based and evidence based. They've got a whole government propaganda department at the moment telling them it's so.

Now on the DM site on line. Cannot view the comments at the moment!
Sorry cannot link.

I went to the NHS a couple of years ago and was very disappointed. There were very few specimens - it was all interactive displays with models, screens and dumbed down descriptions aimed at younger end of primary school parties (or so it seemed). The only good room left with real things to look at was the minerals room. It was also the room my primary-aged kids found most interesting - the rest they could have got from the Internet.

*NHM - natural history museum

DdraigGoch · 01/12/2021 23:21

There was me thinking that the Science Museum would be the last place to drop scientific rigour in favour of this fiction. Removing references to chromosomes in 2016 FGS.

Lovelyricepudding · 02/12/2021 07:10

I actually think binders, packers and puberty blockers do belong in a museum. It is the only place they should be - alongside shoes worn by women who had their feet bound, witch dunking stools and scolds bridles.

Sorry I know its the Mail but they have covered this also

This quote in particular makes me want to stop the world and get off-

'Boy or Girl? previously removed a sign that read ‘your X and Y chromosomes define your biological sex’ following complaints in 2016'

Babdoc · 02/12/2021 09:02

Are there any actual scientists curating this imitation of a museum? Or has it been taken over by trans ideologists?
They have waved goodbye to any scientific credibility.
What next - the Royal Geographic Society announcing that the world is flat?

littlbrowndog · 02/12/2021 09:07

Yeah babdoc. That’s next 🤣🤦‍♀️

Dinosaurwoman · 02/12/2021 09:17

I feel like complaining directly to the museum about this.
Do you know the email and name of who I should contact?
I emailed the Royal Academy, as did many others, about cancelling Jesse DeWahles and that had good results. I doubt if the curater of the latest drivel reads this forum but they may pay attention to a lot of emails.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 02/12/2021 16:59

Here's the first Telegraph article with the paywall removed, and here's the second

missproportionate · 02/12/2021 20:05

I started a thread after visiting just before Covid - the new medicine galleries had lots of women scientists cited, but lots of 'gender' and not 'sex'
