Overwhelm from news relating to murder of women by men

parentingperson · 27/11/2021 08:54

It just never stops. There is always at least one story in the news where a man has taken a women's life. Sometimes he knows the woman, sometimes not.

Sometimes the woman is going about her day, at a bus stop a couple of minutes from home at 6pm.

Sometimes the men are in positions of power and use this to entice a woman into their car.

Sometimes they murder the whole family and friend that was staying over also involving rape of the two girls.

Sometimes the woman is found dead having been attacked and left in a bush and whilst there is some reports on it, the sad death barely makes a ripple.

These are all examples in recent months and it's becoming quite overwhelming in a way I haven't experienced before.

Cant believe the statistic that men are slightly more likely to be a murderer than a murder victim! That for me totally puts things into perspective.

CheeseMmmm · 27/11/2021 22:45

Poster may say not noticed these news reports/ didn't read/ pay attention to them.

You'd have to live under a rock to have missed them.

Or deliberately ignored when came up.

And the OP was clear. From it the situation is obvious.

If I haven't heard of something a thread is about. I look it up or I don't read it.

Jumping in without knowing what it's about, don't know why anyone would do that.

Unless assumed about what they are interested in?

Or thought title mentions thing that I don't like, in this case specifically women being murdered by men. Fucks sake. Again? Right let me at 'em.

I can't believe that tbh.

Need to check back see if links and read up.

Sounds extremely wonky to me tbh.

@MynameisWa

I feel like this OP. In fact after reading about the awful rape and murder of that poor little girl I did some research trying to work out if, as a society, we are getting sicker. I wanted to know if homicide rates of women over the years had increased but what I found was a list of unsolved murders since 1970 of which there are hundreds.

The vast majority are women, who have either been burned in their own homes, often along with their kids, or tortured murdered and dumped on waste ground.

The way their bodies were discarded proves how little empathy men have for women. They don’t even seem to be ashamed of leaving the body in plain sight where kids will find them. Just discarded like rubbish. It’s so sad.

I just can’t process it, and still there is a debate about whether it not femicide should be given the same status as a hate crime. The way I understand it is if a trans woman is murdered because they are trans, then the case will get more serious treatment and the prosecution can ask for a more severe prison sentence than if it were a woman murdered because she is a woman.

I can’t get my head around it.

I agree with what you've said here. I don't think things are getting worse. I think haven't improved.

If you look up the cases solved recently by genetic DNA comparisons, you'll find dozens of men identified for raping a murdering women and children going back decades. There are Crimewatch episodes from the 1980s and 90s available on YouTube that feature crimes against women of a sexual nature every episode.

One phenomenon I think is improving is that repeat offenders are caught sooner now because DNA identifies them. I think this makes it more difficult for any one man to become a serial killer. However, if the men who are caught early are released, it just creates a C Pitchfork situation.

CheeseMmmm · 27/11/2021 22:51

And sorry for going off on one! I usually am a sucker for obvious derails etc.

But this is even worse to me than the couzens threads.

I'm genuinely shocked at this though. It's sobering to those who WATM on threads with this general topic, how far they are prepared to go.

MynameisWa · 27/11/2021 23:22

@flygirl1983 you make a valid point about the DNA testing preventing serial perpetrators. If this is the case then it suggests that the number of perpetrators has increased significantly as if not the numbers of crimes would have declined along with improved forensics.

Points to the notion that - if femicides per capita remain the same or have increased - then society has indeed got a lot sicker as more men are committing the crimes.

Newnameneededxx · 27/11/2021 23:23

It feels worse now but that may be because of the 24hr nature of the news and social media.

Either way it’s abhorrent.

I feel we need a huge societal change on how women are viewed and treated and also need to look at how we parent boys.

This sounds depressingly reasonable. 😕

And there's another one

@SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit

I feel the same. The news last night that the man who murdered the family and the visiting friend is now also charged with raping the little girls just felt like the final straw.

Has it got worse or are we just more aware?

I hadn't read this until now. Absolutely evil I hope he rots in hell. I must admit I feel pretty overwhelmed recently maybe because some of the murders have been closer to home such as the shootings and very recently the beautiful Bobbi anne was taken from us. We have also had drink and needle spikings and a girl was raped a few weeks ago. It all seems to have happened in a short space of time and it is rare for our city to have so many cases. I then watched on GMB the mother of the sisters from the Wembley murders who spoke about how two met police took selfies with her dead daughters bodies and snap chatted them to colleagues. Utterly sickening and vile. What is happening to our society are we so indepensible and worthless 😔
SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 28/11/2021 03:00

There is something rotten in the Met. Another officer from Couzens unit has been charged with several rapes.

CheeseMmmm · 28/11/2021 03:16

YY seen on BBC front page with updates to situation.

Thought about starting thread didn't get round to it.

The met imo as over 40 years in met area.

They are rotten to the core and have been for decades.

Not just this but so much other massive scandals. Around covering up them murdering innocent people. Racism. Excessive force. VAWG so so much more than this one incident. Corruption. And that's just the start.

They are not fit for purpose. They often act deliberately against those they are supposed to protect.

Dick has so much widely reported v v serious condemnation. Again across many serious areas.

The fact she didn't go years ago is a kick in the face to all Londoners.

They are not just useless but actively harmful.

This news is zero surprise.

NewlyGranny · 28/11/2021 04:30

CheeseMm, that statistic must be right. Logically, since men commit 95%+ of murders and there are many women and child victims, there are forced to be more male murderers than male victims, since every victim had a murderer. Think it through.

The only other possibility is that there are more mass murderers than non-male victims, and that's highly unlikely.

NewlyGranny · 28/11/2021 04:43

Sorry, that was for MyNameIsWa, obviously. My mistake.

Funny how those stats have been there forever, but when you give it a shake that detail falls neatly out.

parentingperson · 29/11/2021 07:21

There needs to be a government debate on this. Studies to identify the root cause of why men kill women. Some sort of programme / education to intervene and prevent these awful crimes.

I feel bad that I'd forgotten about this one. Could be out on parole soon already, barely 7 years into sentence.

This is why reclaim the night marches started...

OP it doesn't help those victims if you feel stressed and depressed. It's possible to see a headline but not click to read the full story with every single detail.

Newspapers choose what to print, sometimes they report more on these kind of murders but it doesn't necessarily mean they are happening more often.

oldwomanwhoruns · 01/12/2021 10:06

I don't think that the unintended consequence of the Equality movement has helped perceptions.

We women have, on average, half the strength of the average male. And in upper body strength, worse than that. I'm a petite woman. No match for even the smallest, weakest man.

But somehow 'equality' has been misread to be ' women are as strong as men'. It's become politically incorrect to say that yes, we ARE the weaker sex. Physically, we are.

We need to restate, loudly, that women are weaker than men. We are at risk from men. We can't fight back.

The 'equality' word has done us an unintended disservice.

catzwhiskas · 01/12/2021 18:46

Someone, probably a man, has killed a 16 year old girl Amber, now in Lanarkshire, Scotland. I reckon all men should have their DNA taken and checked . Might pick up some of these fuckers. Totally angry to the point where I would remove the rights to not have all men tested.

MynameisWa · 01/12/2021 18:48

Another girl called Amber is the latest case. The poor victims keep coming we don’t even have time to reflect and take in before the next one comes along.

Things I think are definitely getting worse. Society accepts violence.

Now, tackling domestic violence and sexual violence is now being prioritised so it’s got to be written into local authority policing strategies or something. Cant quite get my head around it but apparently it’s significant.

MynameisWa · 01/12/2021 18:49

Cross posted on the same subject @catzwhiskas

catzwhiskas · 01/12/2021 18:51

Oh and just fuck off any males who think that their issues need discussing on this thread.

catzwhiskas · 01/12/2021 19:28

I would really like women to take strike action about this..eg .no sex , no housework , until this violence and killing stops. Men should face consequences for their actions and inaction.
