@PickAChew

As this is fairly local to me, I have the app. No comments on it.

The response of local twitter pretty much "that's a man"

You don't have to be GC to abhor this nonsense.

Is there a term for someone who is NOT Gender Critical but abhors this nonsense?

I mean, if you are not gender critical and think this is indeed a woman, what do you abhor about it?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 26/11/2021 10:58

He's not a woman.

@DrBlackbird

Hellebore interesting that you note this. I was talking to friend / colleague, someone I respect for her feminism and intelligence, on the TWAW issue and DV refuges. Her position was that we needed to assume ‘good faith’.

When I mentioned examples that called for caution, she said something about one high profile media story distorting the wider picture. My response was well how many incidents would be enough? Isn’t just one case enough to call for some caution on dismantling single sex spaces? But it seems the answer to that must be ‘no’.

This wasn’t an extreme trans activist. This was an intelligent and lovely person coming from a position of good faith and sisterhood. Morever, my sense was also that her mind was set on this issue and that nothing said would change it. The whole Terf accusation has stuck enough to the point that even just questioning what’s happening renders the questioner as the bigot and therefore anything being said by them to be dismissed.

I find that these “ intelligent and lovely people “ are very willing to give away other peoples boundaries but not their own or those of their family.

They may be happy to let XY people into womens prisons and refuges just as long as they are are not living there.

If they are counsellors or therapists they are the first to ensure that they keep:every professional boundary intact, ask for chaperones etc.

But ask them if we should allow drop police or background checks for the people who work in daycare or teach their children “ because we have to assume everyone is in good faith “ and you will soon have a different story.

Ask them if they give clients their home address or phone number.

Ask them if they would have a street homeless woman ( or a man who identified as female ) come and live in their house because they say they won’t take any drink or drugs or steal anything ? Why not if it’s all about sisterhood ?

IME these are always very middle class women who know that it will never affect them or their kids. It’s a luxury opinion to show how woke they are - they NEVER put their money where their mouth is.

sorry to break it to you but if you think this 'gender' is nonsense then you are critical of this 'gender', aka 'gender critical'

RedCarpetRebellion · 26/11/2021 11:05

@Tabbydancer

I understood from the nomad report that the thrbequalities act does not recognise self identification as a form of gender reassignment and that it is stonewall who has pushed thst interpretation? So other than fear of appearing transphobic the newspaper could have said man who self identified as a woman or trans man. Have I misunderstood?
The protected characteristic of gender reassignment does include those who intend to transition (its in the equality act itself).

However a protected characteristic doesn’t trump free speech laws (which include freedom from compelled speech). And Maya’s high court judgement also makes it clear that belief in biological sex is also a protected characteristic under philosophical belief.

It’s the later bit that’s misrepresented. This person does come under pc of gender reassignment, but that pc does not mean they can force others to use preferred pronouns or call them a woman. There’s nothing in the equality act that says misgendering is a crime. And nor can there be as belief in biological sex is also a pc. Believing in biological sex means we can’t force this person to say they are male can we, despite our protected characteristic, so the same applies in the other direction also.

The problem is the ehrc guidance and other guidance is based on stonewall legal advice and as the legal feminist notes that means the policies themselves maybe illegal.

That’s not true. There’s plenty right wing extremists that belief gender is inherently linked to sex. But they believe sex can not be changed.

Gender critical perspective agrees on the second point but not the first.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 26/11/2021 11:07

An unfortunate typo on the part of the newspaper

A MAN exposed himself. Not a woman

Oh I know, I was asking the person that said they are not GC but abhor this nonsense. @PickAChew is the person that said it. I don't understand what the point they are making is.

It isn't a typo. The papers are not allowed to state the truth any more, they have to follow the guidlines.

I remember asking in 2018, a famous journo why they are not fighting this madness from inside, when they complained about it.

Doubletoilandtrouble · 26/11/2021 11:11

Stop being so mean everyone. This lovely woman and her enthusiastic penis is no less a woman that the transwomen who want to be (and are) in women’s prisons and on women’s hospital wards.

Here is another lovely woman who was on a female ward with her fellow women.

Stop being transphobic. Acceptance without question!

daisydaisy11 · 26/11/2021 11:11

Not a woman

Oftenithinkaboutit · 26/11/2021 11:12

Yes I know it isn’t a typo 🙄

Doubletoilandtrouble · 26/11/2021 11:16

Come on, this woman is obviously living her best life.

Am I the only one respecting her pronouns? I am waiting for Margarita to come and back me up.

JohnStonesMissus · 26/11/2021 11:17

Apparently we've been told there is no such thing as a woman, lets see, so far we've got:
Chest feeders
Menstruaters
Pregnant People
Man dressed as a woman commits a crime and guess what? Surprise surprise, he's called a woman
I'm so enraged with all this fucking shit...

Yep…the only one

Please god dont say that name three times

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 26/11/2021 11:19

The way it's reported, as if it's the most natural thing in the world for a woman to have a penis 😳

GoodnightGrandma · 26/11/2021 11:21

He is a male man who needs a stint in a male prison.

doublemonkey · 26/11/2021 11:21

@ChakaFridaMendips

When it’s the menopause it’s ‘people’. When it’s crime it’s ‘woman’.

Angry

This exactly. Tells you everything you need to know.
LittleDandelionClock · 26/11/2021 11:23

@Doubletoilandtrouble That's awful. Sad

LittleDandelionClock · 26/11/2021 11:23

@Doubletoilandtrouble from your post at 10.50am today I mean...

Doubletoilandtrouble · 26/11/2021 11:24

It is horrific isn’t it Dandelion? Sad

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 26/11/2021 11:26

Me too. But if you were to speak up publicly, say on twitter, you would be lambasted, and your life would not be worth living.

I have had the rage this past few days over the gender-neutral Brits. Only giving one 'best singer' award, and not two - for female and male. All of this shit is just actually upsetting me now, because it feels like women are being erased, and NOBODY is doing anything about it.

JohnStonesMissus · 26/11/2021 11:29

Exactly, women are being erased..

GatoradeMeBitch · 26/11/2021 11:30

When it’s the menopause it’s ‘people’. When it’s crime it’s ‘woman’.

Or anything about periods, childbirth, smear tests. Drama and tantrums if the word "woman" is used.

But it's perfectly fine when it comes to reporting of sexual crime.
