I seem to recall they were subject of some dispute

That was me. I did that... I make my own oat milk these days.

Zeflyinghelmetandzevetcelery · 18/11/2021 21:31

I stopped buying that brand after reading the thread here.

BelleOfTheProvince · 18/11/2021 21:38

Will never buy them again.

Whitefire · 18/11/2021 21:46

It never pays to annoy a significant portion of your market.

KittenKong · 18/11/2021 21:56

I look forward to seeing their case study in marketing and business text books in the future.

ISeeTheLight · 18/11/2021 21:56

They also sued a small independent oat milk brand (and lost). Terrible PR for a company that relies mostly on customers who have a strong sense of ethics. www.thedrum.com/news/2021/08/10/why-oatly-s-lawsuit-loss-goliath-wake-up-call

I'm another one who deleted them from my favourites & will never buy again.
Serves them right.

Clymene · 18/11/2021 22:56

Oh dear. What a shame! Couldn't have happened to a more arrogant nicer brand

ArabellaScott · 18/11/2021 22:56

go woke go broke go oaty croak

HKI83vcWA · 18/11/2021 23:00

I read something about the processes involved in making oat milk and that put me off the stuff ages ago - something along these lines

VanGoghsDog · 18/11/2021 23:00

Yep, same here, never buy it any more and would actively seek out the brand they sued, which is fairly local to me so it's possible I might see it some time.

Somebodylikeyew · 18/11/2021 23:02

Yep, haven’t bought from them since the stories linked to above, and i used to use them all the time.

Badabingbadabum · 18/11/2021 23:06

It's in our local co-op. I've stopped shopping at Lush and really miss a shampoo that was lovely for my scalp. Oatly Barista is my favourite milk in coffee, do I have an itchy scalp and disappointing coffee or ignore my ethics this time?
VanGoghsDog · 18/11/2021 23:11

@Badabingbadabum

It's not in my Coop. As for your ethics, that's up to you.

Mind you, I don't drink coffee and I don't have an itchy scalp!

Badabingbadabum · 18/11/2021 23:27

It's so difficult! I try to be consistent with things I won't support but sometimes it is a product I really enjoy using. I just buy it with my eyes closed and my hands over my ears!

serendipitea · 19/11/2021 00:09

Yep, I too gave up on Oatley due to the two stories - plenty of alternatives. It would be useful to know how much of the share drop is due to boycott, but I don't think companies would ever make the real reason public as it would show them in a bad light. So they hide under "pandemic, recession, etc, etc".

BelleOfTheProvince · 19/11/2021 07:47

Alpro do a barista milk I believe.
Plenty of vegan, cruelty free bar shampoos can be found on Etsy.

BelleOfTheProvince · 19/11/2021 07:49

Boots, Holland and Barrett and ethical superstore all do bar shampoo.

PointeShoesandTutus · 19/11/2021 07:52

This really annoys me, I would normally boycott in a heartbeat but it’s literally the only milk my DD will drink. And by far the nicest one in coffee. We’ve tried just about every version going. Damn you Oatly!

BoogieFeet · 19/11/2021 07:52

Another one who removed Oatly from my weekly shop after their behaviour.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 19/11/2021 07:55

Yes I too stopped buying it immediately. Had been buying it for three vegans until that point so it was a lot.

NoToast · 19/11/2021 08:01

Yeah. I have swerved since the story. Teens don't tend to do the shopping their parents do. Taking the piss out of them wasn't a great strategy.

Sophoclesthefox · 19/11/2021 08:01

The upside of that Oatly thread ^^ up there was that discovered that I can get my oat milk delivered to my doorstep, along with eggs, butter, cheese, yoghurt (am not a vegan, I just don’t like milk). I’ve never looked back- your patronising tone deaf advertisement was a great success for my milkman Keith, who thanks you for the increase in his business Grin
