Emma Barnett is asking the questions.

Emma is magnificent.

CatsOperatingInGangs · 11/11/2021 10:21

He’s sounds really angry now. Does anyone get the feeling he’s going to flounce out as soon as his mike is off?

Mollyollydolly · 11/11/2021 10:21

She's brilliant. I wouldn't trust him to make the tea. He can't answer a straight answer. I don't even believe he's listened to the Nolan podcasts, the Ben Hunter issue was covered there, he doesn't seem to have a clue.

ladymalfoy · 11/11/2021 10:21

When she referenced someone at the BBC stating that a trans woman was a biological male ,did she mean Dame Jeni?

nauticant · 11/11/2021 10:22

EB: "Stonewall have said pulling out of the scheme means LGBTQ+ people suffer. What have you got to say to the 2% of the staff of the BBC who identify as trans."

'Our involvement in Stonewall has never compromised our editorial output'

AND ALSO

'We need to leave the scheme because our involvement with Stonewall might compromise our editorial output.'

He genuinely expects us to believe this absolutely hasn't happened thus far but they're just suddenly aware that it might in the future.

Shewholovedthethebanhills · 11/11/2021 10:22

It’s plausible deniability, no? I can’t possibly comment on that I haven’t heard it.

Justme56 · 11/11/2021 10:22

Emma is brilliant on this. Well done!

Emma Barnett on fire. Fantastic.

pickingdaisies · 11/11/2021 10:22

It's Rhodri Talfan Davies, sits on the executive committee something something

DrBlackbird · 11/11/2021 10:23

You know I didn’t even think of that… but she’s wondered if the programme would have to change its name… to People Hour ?

TheOrigRights · 11/11/2021 10:23

Huzzah! I put the radio on while I was hanging laundry (WFH) and have just come here to see if there's a thread.

EM is brilliant. It's taken me a while to warm to her, but now I think she's fabulous.

ladymalfoy · 11/11/2021 10:23

Using his full name and title so we know who he is and that he hasn’t got a clue.

Shedbuilder · 11/11/2021 10:24

[quote nauticant]The waffly dissembler was:

He drew the short straw, didn't he?

pickingdaisies · 11/11/2021 10:24

Crosspost - preferred your waffly dissembler description Grin

WinterTrees · 11/11/2021 10:24

Every time Stonewall release a statement on this they reveal themselves to be more malignant and deceitful. How anyone could left thinking they offer sound and sensible advice I fail to see.

MrsBertBibby · 11/11/2021 10:27

Huh, I better listen this evening.

MacNTosh · 11/11/2021 10:29

Emma was magnificent, I liked the slight nod to others who’ve sat in the chair ie. Jane & Jenni

Actually feeling more than a little teary.

FindTheTruth · 11/11/2021 10:29

'Emma: Can you say with confidence that the BBC hasn't be lobbied by Stonewall... compromised?'

BattyOrange · 11/11/2021 10:30

A quick bit of positive feedback going off to the BBC about that piece - and EB's fierce tenacity in seeking straight answers.

FindTheTruth · 11/11/2021 10:33

Thank you Rhodri Talfan Davies for agreeing to be the first BBC executive to be interviewed about the BBC's relationship with Stonewall. Even though you didn't answer most of the pointed questions... it is at least start and I appreciate the emphasis on impartiality.

pickingdaisies · 11/11/2021 10:33

I'm listening to it now, and EB is magnificent. Magnificent. Whole seconds of radio silence while waffly dissembler tries to think of an answer to a straight question.

Datun · 11/11/2021 10:34

I re-read the full BBC statement yesterday, and it was trying it's absolute damnedest to say we are totally impartial, of course, but people might think we aren't, and as it's all about people's perception, we have to leave stonewall. You know, just in case it looks bad, even though we're not bad.

So it's really good that Emma is putting that alleged impartiality to the test. Cos we all know it's bollocks.

There are 400 trans people working at the BBC, so I imagine there is a massive internal schism going on at the moment.

Emma is brave. I wouldn't want be in the BBC cafe having a latte after that.

nauticant · 11/11/2021 10:34

My suggestion about positive feedback: refer approvingly to the BBC reemphasising impartiality and ask whether the Nolan podcast can be reformatted into a programme to be broadcast on Radio 4.
