From the chair of Amnesty Via Twitter… I can’t find the original tweet so perhaps they’ve deleted but it’s appears real.
Depressingly one sided and cruel to someone who’s been driven out of their job.

It's Amnesty who should be going to tribunal not LGBA. Appalling. and heartbreaking to see their important work taken over by totalitarian fundamentalists

KittenKong · 11/11/2021 07:48

What a prat.

nauticant · 11/11/2021 08:06

There's a lot of selfies on that account. I mean A LOT.

AnotherLass · 11/11/2021 08:08

He appears to be an academic in human rights law at Manchester Met, but 100% of his publications, and the vast majority of his tweets, seem to be on "queer" and trans issues. If he is the chair of Amnesty that explains a lot.

Thingybob · 11/11/2021 08:23

According to Linkedin, he's only been CEO since September but has been a board director for over 3 years where "In this governance role, I help shape policy and strategy for Amnesty International UK"

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 11/11/2021 08:23

Seems very keen on the reply-blocking function too, especially for someone in his role. "No debate" doesn't sit well with what Amnesty used to stand for.

KittenKong · 11/11/2021 08:23

That’s quite a big boast there...

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 11/11/2021 08:25

And yes, absolutely agree with you FindTheTruth

Helleofabore · 11/11/2021 08:25

Amnasty! Amirite?

FindTheTruth · 11/11/2021 08:25

anti-women beardy bro's with A LOT of selfies. Like the other charity CEO attacking Stock who got an honourary doctorate from Sussex

It's a theme isn't it?

FindTheTruth · 11/11/2021 08:27

Amnasty!

Clever Hellebore

cocoapopfan · 11/11/2021 08:29

I keep getting ads for Amnesty’s “Reading Rebels” scheme for children, and such is my opinion of them now that I immediately wonder what the purpose is. I’d love to see a list of the books. I also wonder how much money they are throwing at it.

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 11/11/2021 08:30

It’s always men with beards, isn’t it….

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 11/11/2021 08:34

No solidarity with Professor Stock though.

Bearded narc wokebro uses work SM account to spout right think arsewash "hot takes" in order to signal to his tribe that he is on the side of the angels - news at 11.

Isn't our old friend Professor Stephen Whittle also at Man Met?

ArabellaScott · 11/11/2021 09:33

@Helleofabore

Amnasty! Amirite?
You are.

What a bloody shame that a once crucial organisation that helped so many prisoners of conscience and had a big impact on discussions about torture and human rights has become such a petty, small-minded vehicle for personal vendettas and point-scoring.

I suppose nothing lasts forever.

This. They did great work for decades.

The irony is when Thatcher hated us for being pinkos we were studiously apolitical. Now they are part of the establishment but are wildly political.

The slide started a long time ago, God knows where rock bottom will be.

Helen Joyces said similar about NGOs/charities in the latest Radical Notion:

“as a whole, the third sector has become morally and intellectually bankrupt … they’re all trading on their good names … now we’ve got these well-paid careerists who are doing the exact opposite of what their organizations were founded to do. And people haven’t noticed it. They still think these organizations stand for something.”

(It’s in a conversation with Jane Clare Jones, a really interesting read.)

Hate that I was handing over my money to Amnesty for so long, oblivious of what they had become.

Mollyollydolly · 11/11/2021 19:16

They seem to pump these third sector employees out from some sausage factory. I am so careful now who I give money to, so many organisations not fit for purpose.

Yes, but like the current president of the ACLU, who is pro-censorship, things have changed since those heady, crazy days.
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 11/11/2021 21:09

Saw a tweet today that feels on point. I deeply regret that this encompasses Amnasty (thank you for that) who are deeply engaged in destroying their reputation and moral standing.

Queer Theory continuing the noble work of turning organizations against their own missions: LGBT groups stand for anyone who’s not homosexual; rape centers pretend most victims (women) don’t even exist; kids’ clubs proudly shred safeguards; civil liberty orgs denounce speech.

CheeseMmmm · 11/11/2021 22:26

Amnesty have fucked up over and over. They have betrayed their basic remit. And done so much more awful shit.

I looked at the bio of the person. It starts.

'Dr Senthorun (Sen) Raj is an academic human rights lawyer who teaches and researches at Manchester Law School. Sen is passionate about glitter, community building, and social justice'

Glitter. Glitter?

Seriously?

Didn't anyone look at that before published and think. Hmmm. This is a well known org formed to fight human rights abuses globally. That's the actual original human rights not the new made up ones. Torture. Imprisonment without trial. Heavyweight stuff.

Is it hitting the right tone to put. First interest is GLITTER???

what the hell is going on?

BraveBananaBadge · 11/11/2021 23:44

That's quite unbelievable, Cheese. And the profile picture!

www.amnesty.org.uk/meet-uk-section-board

Richard Radcliffe's on hunger strike, Afghanistan is fucked but never mind, we've got glitter and rainbow fans. What an absolute dickhead. They won't get my money again.
