I never said I feel silenced. I said that the constant posting of articles about modern-day slavery any time anyone dares to talk about racism is a tiresome attempted silencing tactic. It fails, because it is lazy and transparent and therefore cannot silence me.

It’s strange how the topic of modern-day slavery only comes up on this board when someone mentions chattel slavery. You’d think there’d be a dozen threads on it the way people bring it up so urgently and demand you respond, yet oddly enough outside of using it in that context, there’s never any threads about it.

The rape of Indigenous and African women by British oil and extractive companies is also a reality, but I don’t feel the need if a woman is talking about being sexually harassed in her office or something to go “WHAT ABOUT AFRICAN WOMEN RAPED BY OIL WORKERS? WHAT ABOUT MAN CAMPS?” It’s not relevant to what she’s talking about and it’s gross to use other women’s experiences of violence to attempt to shut down discussions you don’t like.

Point taken, I should have made it clear to Beatrice that IMO the world has a massive apology deficit/ongoing problem.

as if anyone asked her to while also telling us she has now turned against people who aren’t white.

She hasn't said anything about turning against people who aren't white. She sounds like someone exasperated by the outlandish stuff that gets reported which, by her mentioning being proud of her country, she feels means she should be feeling ashamed of her country.

I doubt her feelings have changed about people at all.

It's the shaming that is causing push back with people.
