Damian Barr TRA suicide slur *(title edited at OP's request)

Have just been having a heated conversation with DH. We agree on some things, but he insists he has seen a comment by Glinner about a TRA who made a failed suicide attempt, which was deeply offensive and gloating. I am sure he isn't right about this, but have a memory that someone like Bergdorf may have?

I also remember a post like that by a trans rights advocate.

I think he needs to show you where he got that, rather than sending you off to hunt!

And in the end a lot of people say shit sometimes. The issues with this stand on their own, who says what about who is noise and in the end if a or b said xyz then that doesn't affect sports prisons etc does it.

Damian Barr made a horrible joke about a transwoman's failed suicide attempt. I have posted his joke on here before and it was deleted very swiftly, because presumably it was that offensive.

Definitely confusing Glinner with Barr. Barr is embraced by the trans community and his sins forgiven/forgotten/excused/ glossed over. Glinner is persona non grata.

It was Damian Barr, the man who led the witch-hunt against Baroness Nicholson because of her GC and J K Rowling-related campaigning, using the Booker Prize as a proxy.

I have show him the DAmian Barr tweet. A GC friend of his forwarded it via Glinner (when would have been making a point about the rank hypocrisy of DB), but DH forgot the fine detail. Now he knows. On prisons, he totally gets it. I pointed him towards Mridhul Wadwa and all the charities airbrushing the word woman from their literature, so it's his turn to do the research.

Exactly. What relevance would a comment on twitter be to this argument? He either thinks it is right or wrong.

And he has made an accusation about Glinner without any evidence but you were the one sent off to find the proof to show which of you is correct? Good bit of gaslighting.

I wasn't "sent off" to find the proof, he was saying that while there's a great deal of horrible hate coming from the TRAs, there is also mud slinging from elsewhere. I have now proved him wrong on that. He sees FB posts from both GC and TWAW friends and is trying to think things through. I get very angry about the enormity of it so have decided to point him towards the right research.

OP do you think you could request a title edit substituting “Damian Barr” for Glinner? There is some evidence that people’s opinions are affected by false allegations even when they’re told immediately that those allegations are false.

And I’m a bit uneasy with all these comments talking about “even if” the hypothetical where Glinner did a thing that he categorically didn’t do. It seems very unfair to him.

Though I do understand the points these comments are making and that they’re not malicious! I just am slightly concerned that this whole thread is unintentionally smearing Glinner and associating him with Barr’s terrible behaviour without any malice on anyone’s part intended.

Also I lot of people just skim the titles of posts and not read on. Glinner has enough false accusations flung at him without (unintentionally) adding to them.
