Is this Deputy head accused of rape a man or woman?

Genuinely confused. BBC report on their website today - sorry can never successfully link from their app.
It’s about a school deputy head from Wigan called Julie Morris who is in court on child abuse and sex abuse charges - including two counts of rape. Her co accused is a man called David Morris. They are both accused of a horrific string of crimes, but it specifically says Julie is accused of rape.
Correct me if I’m getting this wrong but can women be charged with rape? I didn’t think so, but maybe they can if it relates to a child? 🤔

I think women can be charged with rape if they "assist" e.g. hold someone down.

Youdonthavetobegood · 29/10/2021 14:42

Oh weirdly I just read that and thought the same. I thought that by definition rape can only be committed by someone with a penis? So she has a penis? Unless the law has been updated. I'm not sure

PigeonLittle · 29/10/2021 14:42

I also got confused. I think I read they have different amounts of rape charges so I thought it was a couple.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/10/2021 14:43

They are not a couple.

Some of the news reports describe her charges as aiding and abetting rape, rather than rape.

The man has admitted to the rapes. I presume she helped him.

Rightsraptor · 29/10/2021 14:47

I'd imagine it's the journalist confusing the issue, perhaps unknowingly but they should know if they report on such crimes. Lazy reporting.

MissyB1 · 29/10/2021 14:48

Aaah ok it sounds like she was helping him commit rape then. Poor reporting I think. What a revolting pair of human beings.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 29/10/2021 14:50

"They are not a couple" really?

NChat · 29/10/2021 14:57

The earlier linked story says "aiding and abetting"

MissyB1 · 29/10/2021 14:58

They have the same surname and were doing this together they must be couple surely? Or sister and brother maybe?

Article says "David Morris, who is not related to her"
BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 29/10/2021 15:01

They are probably a couple, the report states they are not related ie the same surname is a fluke but it doesn't state they are not in a relationship

IHateCoronavirus · 29/10/2021 15:02

I really struggle to get my head around cases like this, where two people harm someone together. How on earth does that happen? Is it a case of like attracts like? I just don’t get how somebody meets another person and gets to the point of ‘hey let’s go rape/kill/torture…’ but it happens. Look at all the poor children who have died horrific deaths at the hands of their family recently. I just don’t get it!

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/10/2021 15:04

Christ on a bike. That’s chilling. A teacher and female coercing children and holding them down.

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/10/2021 15:07

Also covered in this www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9975381/Wigan-deputy-head-Julie-Morris-44-charged-connection-rape-young-girl.html which carries a picture of Julie Morris.

"A spokesman for Merseyside police said: ‘We can confirm that two people have been charged with child sex offences which are alleged to have taken place in Eccleston.

‘David Morris has been charged with three counts of rape of a girl under 13 and causing and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

‘Julie Morris has been charged with aiding and abetting the rape of a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity with a child under 13. Julie Morris is employed in the education sector in Wigan."

My mother frequently brought abusive men into our lives and handed me over to them.

To some people this is normal. She was very abusive in other ways, emotionally abusive and gas lighted me lots, so this was just another type of game to her to fuck with my head. She liked the attention she got from these men in exchange for me being abused, I think she liked that it made her ‘special’ type of woman to them and that she could offer them something other women couldn’t or wouldn’t by letting them rape me.

It’s fucked up of course but I don’t think it’s that abnormal for predators. They frequently organise in any other type of crime so this isn’t any different from that.

@BloodinGutters 💐
I'm sorry you had to go through that

KaycePollard · 29/10/2021 16:30

When I read things like this, I wonder about domestic violence and coercive control.

Of course, it's not necessarily the case, and this woman could be just as twisted as the man, but you only have to read AIBU and the Relationships boards here to see how deeply some women are invested in staying with nasty abusive men. It's a kind of Stockholm syndrome.

KaycePollard · 29/10/2021 16:32

Oh sorry @BloodinGutters I hadn't read your post when I wrote mine Flowers

Oh sorry *@BloodinGutters* I hadn't read your post when I wrote mine Flowers
It’s ok. That’s definitely true for some women involved in this also, that they are victims themselves. But there’s those that aren’t also. Both are true.
BloodinGutters · 29/10/2021 16:36

And it drives me crazy when anyone uses examples like my mother as women do it too.

Just because she did doesn’t mean I’m not well aware she’s in the extreme minority and loath it being used to down play the risk men pose.

IHateCoronavirus · 29/10/2021 16:38

BloodinGutters I’m so sorry that you went through all of that. Flowers thank you for helping us understand that side of it.

verymiddleaged · 29/10/2021 16:46

Bloodingutters I am so sorry 💐
In my work I came across women who sold their children for drugs, women who were co-conspirators with abusive men because it met their own emotional needs and a few who wished to abuse themselves.

KingofQueens · 29/10/2021 16:52

Women who assist a rapist are charged with rape. Just as Rose West was.
