@LizzieSiddal

I too think OJ is nothing more than a left wing Katie Hopkins. I watched some of his you tube “discussion” re the BBC Stonewall investigation, which was full of inaccuracies/falsehoods. Some of the stuff coming out of his mouth was jaw droppingly stupid. He really does live in a very small bubble. He is not a journalist.
Yes, his YouTube video which was supposed to be 'exposing the truth' about the Stonewall investigation, was basically him talking to two people who totally agree with him on the issue of sex/gender and them giving their completely unsurprising opinions on the matter.

There was no evidence, no fact checking, there certainly was no 'exposing of truth'.

@Mrsjamin

Women just can't have anything anymore. Publishers are just are going to go "what's the point of publishing anything with 'women' in the title when some mentioned women might be cancelled or some might think they aren't women anymore?" We are going further back in time when everything was about men.
Yup. Infuriating and deeply depressing.
TheMarzipanDildo · 26/10/2021 06:52

“Giving others equal rights, does not infringe upon your rights. Fundamentally.”

Which ‘women’s rights’ would trans women like?
The right to not be listened to? To be paid less? To be sexually assaulted and then not believed?

To not be allowed to go to school? Or work? Or drive?

It’s not exactly fucking utopia is it.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 26/10/2021 09:20

No idea where they're selling it / were selling it, as I am a volunteer in a larger than average store and haven't seen it.

I have said it before on these threads but there is a massive cultural difference between Head Office staff (mostly 50, broad political spectrum, not particularly engaged with gender politics and the campaigning side of the charity, flummoxed by the new volunteer who says they are "non-binary" and keep referring to said volunteer as "she" anyway).

Honestly, it's like two completely separate organisations. It would do the woke brigade in Head Office the WORLD of good to get out there and spend a month working in various stores. Find out why the volunteers are really there, and what's important to them. Clue : it's nothing to do with gender politics and everything to do with wanting to help starving children.

A relative worked in one of the largest charities in the U.K. - there was definitely a huge gap between those ‘at the top’ who seems to be purely ‘in it for a gong’ (when the honours lists were lo listed there was always a scramble to see who was on it) and those who worked ankle deep in blood and mud.

The upper management was all pretty much from a cabal of ‘folks’ who would be involved in other groups and lobbyists. It was all just business to them.

RainCloude · 26/10/2021 10:43

They discussed this late last night on LBC and it was so ridiculous it kept me awake! Grrrrr

prudencepuffin · 26/10/2021 10:50

Just emailed a complaint to Oxfam - the spaces where women can be celebrated seem to be getting smaller and smaller.

merrymouse · 26/10/2021 13:31

Apparently an Oxfam employee got in touch with OJ and confirmed that the reason for the withdrawal was the deadnaming. Not clear why Oxfam haven’t made this clear, but the employee told OJ ‘the buyers weren’t aware that he had transitioned (fair enough he’s not exactly an A list celebrity). senior management agreed it would be unethical to sell the product’.

So from inspirational lesbian role model and Oscar nominee to ‘not exactly an A list celebrity’. EP’s entire career must be redacted, and presumably any product that acknowledges history pulped.

And Oxfam think this is the ethical choice?

KittenKong · 26/10/2021 13:34

So they have to start their career again as a nobody? Can’t show their CV anywhere? Good luck breaking into Hollywood - can see them screaming for people like them.

merrymouse · 26/10/2021 13:38

So they have to start their career again as a nobody? Can’t show their CV anywhere?

Who knows - I doubt these particular Oxfam staff care.

merrymouse · 26/10/2021 13:42

As Ellen she was in a game next to Malala Yousafzai and Emmeline Pankhurst, but that must never be mentioned again. Elliot must settle for 'Not exactly an A list celebrity'.

KittenKong · 26/10/2021 13:49

Next to a girl who was shot in the head for wanting girls to get education, and a woman who fought for the struggle for half the population the get the vote.

What the heck?

merrymouse · 26/10/2021 14:08

I think the point was that she was a well regarded actress at the beginning of her career who was openly gay and therefore a role model for lesbians. Not quite the same as Malala, but inspirational to some.

KittenKong · 26/10/2021 14:22

Really? I was aware of the role in Juno but wouldn’t have been able to name the actor. Only really on my radar due to their recent off-screen life.

Still - hardly a ‘wonder’ person of either sex. I wonder what a ‘wonder men’ game would look like?

merrymouse · 26/10/2021 14:38

EP has worked pretty consistently for decades (started as a child), but often in smaller films. I suspect the reason for inclusion in the game was being an openly gay woman working in Hollywood, but the people who made the game obviously thought that was inspirational enough.

I don't think we need to pretend Page isn't an extremely talented actor, any actor who wins awards aged 18 years old is pretty impressive IMO. Especially if you take into account the kind of parts being played (Hard Candy), which definitely weren't about being a pretty little thing. So definitely deserved a place in the Wonder Women card deck.
KittenKong · 26/10/2021 14:49

Not on my radar at all, honestly! Is there a full list of the women?

CrossPurposes · 26/10/2021 14:52

Wow can't believe that's got past the massive HATE CRIME posters that SHOUT IN YOUR FACE AS YOU ENTER.

I took a picture.

I thought the exhibition at the top looked like the original art work for greetings cards so I was a bit surprised at the background.

I was impressed that the word lesbian was used on the information board for Phyllis Christopher several times though once in the phrase "queer lesbian sexuality" whatever that is.

Oxfam. Again.

Well you and Oxfam have something in common then!

@notthe1Parrot

Seen today
I saw that above an Oxfam shop and wanted to add

“exploits children”
“Whitewashes investigations”

@Yepnothatfeeling

Has anyone else had a reply from Oxfam? I got one. It basically reiterated the same response that was in the tweet and then lots of other waffle. I have moved my direct debit to another overseas aid charity.
Did it mention deadnaming?
StandWithYou · 27/10/2021 22:11

I had a similar response - nothing about deadnaming just some waffle about the game not living up to their commitment to respect all genders. It then went on to refer to the work they did on behalf of women and that they will tackle discrimination and inequalities including sex, gender identity and sexuality.
