Ah, I've worked out why teacakes are twittering now, but can anyone clarify why tambourines?

It's the netflix protest against Dave Chappelle where a TRA shakes a tamborurine at a counter protester comedian (standing up for comedians 'I like Dave' and 'Dave is funny') saying 'repent motherfucker'. the video is hilarious. thread on here about it

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 23/10/2021 14:16

The tambourine is a reference to the Netflix Twitter team walk out over Dave Chapelle. One young woman shakes a tambourine in the face of a supporter screaming "repent, sinner, repent" in a most amusing fashion.

And yes to the teacakesWink

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 23/10/2021 14:18

Ooh! Was it motherfucker not sinner? My bad, I had to rely on reports of it, no sound at work!!

Understandable, it had a very religious exorcism vibe about it. I wondered if it were a version of the Jericho Walk (with tambourines).
Waitwhat23 · 23/10/2021 14:22

There was a counter protest to support Dave Chapelle at the Netflix Headquarters where some employees and TRA's had gathered to protest Netflix hosting Chapelle's latest stand-up show. The counter protesters had signs saying things like 'I love Dave' and 'jokes are funny'. One of the guys with a 'I love Dave' sign had it snatched off him and ripped to pieces and was then accused of holding a weapon (the stick the destroyed sign had been attached to). During all this, someone was dancing about, shaking a tambourine, while shrieking 'repent motherfuckers' while someone else in a stripy t-shirt tried their best to have someone prod or poke them by accident so they could shout that they were being attacked.

It's made the TRA's look unhinged, frankly and there's a lot of laughter about the absurdity online - hence the while tambourine thing.

With an inevitable UK crossover of Repent MotherTunnocks

Here’s a link to the Repent Motherfucker Repent video. It really doesn’t not show the TRAs in a good light 😂

Repent MotherTunnocks

😆 I hadn't seen that yet - that's fab!

KittenKong · 23/10/2021 14:30

Oh and Kevin (?) was wrongly shown captioned as shouting obscenities (he wasn’t), and they had to reception the images and ‘apologise’

BreadInCaptivity · 23/10/2021 14:45

That video was a classic.

Not only did they give us tambourine TRA we also got to see gaslighting at its finest in the form of the guy who grabbed and destroyed the counter protesters poster leaving him with the stick it was attached to (saying I love Dave - obviously a very dangerous sentiment) then crying out "he's got a weapon" a chant taken up by some others in the crowd. Hmm

Honestly it's well worth a watch. They come across as utterly unhinged.

As for the tea cakes I bet Turnocks are whooping with joy at the publicity and at increased sales by virtue of women all over the county like me being reminded of how nice they are and adding them to my shopping list.

Vito is the Dave Chapelle guy who was wrongly captioned as yelling violent things (see Jess Singal thread).

iirc, Kevin is the poor automated captioning of what the protester was yelling at the attendees of the LGB Alliance conference. (I know, it's hard to keep up.)

JellySaurus · 23/10/2021 14:49

How on earth can that be real!?!? Surely it's some sort of TRA-mocking skit? It's just too utterly ridiculous.

(Perhaps I'm expecting sensible behaviour from the wrong people Confused)

This is gloriously unhinged Grin

It's the lack of self-awareness that gets me - if I were tambourine person I'd be waking up at 3am cringing myself inside out. Somehow I think they is going to sleep like a baby, totally believing in their actions.

Surely calling someone a motherfucker is literal violence though.
And the use of the word 'repent'... interesting.

NonnyMouse1337 · 23/10/2021 14:50

The whole Dave Chapelle protest looked like something from a Monty Python sketch. So unhinged. 😂

DogDaysNeverEnd · 23/10/2021 14:56

Interesting. Can anyone work out how many protesters there are (on either side) versus "press"? They say the behaviour of animals changes when they are being watched and I wonder if the same is true in a protest. Are people playing for the camera, albeit in a very bizarre way?

KittenKong · 23/10/2021 14:59

Plot twist! From twitter ‘Activist behind Netflix walkout over ‘transphobic’ comedy special has made bigoted tweets against Asians and homosexuals in the past’ well well well.

And, like Aimee Challenor (as was), had worked on Elizabeth Warren's campaign.
Helleofabore · 23/10/2021 15:02

It has been an eye opening week for trans protests. The hypocrisy of the sexual violence shown by the activists at the Filia conference with many survivors of sex abuse and rape.

The Chapelle supporter who had his sign broken, was then subject to being falsely, loudly and dangerously accused of his sign’s stick being called a weapon by that same person, then the motherfucker repent tambourine person. All being reported as it being the Chapelle supporters aggression and being at fault.

To the person screaming across at the venue for the LGBA conference having a go at the deaf person’s attempt to put captions to their words and showing that they were screaming rubbish.

BatmansBat · 23/10/2021 15:03

I think I will buy several boxes of teacakes and send with the DCs to school for snacks every day Grin. With any luck they will persuade other children of how good they are. And get their parents to buy some.

I feel confident that we women with children can increase sales on this Grin.

The tambourine person is seriously unwell.

Teacakes and Tambourines
KittenKong · 23/10/2021 15:14

Double plot twist! ‘it was the meth addiction wot made me do it’. You couldn’t make this up...

SocialConnection · 23/10/2021 15:17

O thankyou everyone! Brilliant info gathering there - I was having a laugh at the Tunnocks Teagate lunacy and came back to this. Now following everything Tunnocks on Twitter - they don't seem to have insta tho.

LangificusClegasaurous · 23/10/2021 15:20

According to Vito, the guy who broke his sign, then pushed the stick in Vito's hand upright as he shouted "He's got a weapon" is a writer at Netflix. I hope whoever his boss was saw that footage. Also, another comedian who came with Vito was pushed into a planter and was afraid he had a concussion.

BatmansBat · 23/10/2021 15:25

Haha, not yet FindTheTruth. Great minds obviously think alike!
