"teaching a boy that they can become a girl"....."crimes against humanity"

Well, I certainly can't disagree on this one. Strange days.

Helleofabore · 22/10/2021 11:56

I would agree with Putin that water is wet too though.

Glenthebattleostrich · 22/10/2021 11:56

a stopped clock is right twice a day!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/10/2021 12:03

Tragic that we have to look to the likes of Putin to point out the harm being done to children by this ideology. Where are the responsible adults in our own political parties?

FlyingOink · 22/10/2021 12:12

I'm always going to agree with Vladimir Putin on some things, and not others.

If Westboro Baptist Church members told me today is Friday, I would agree with them that it is.
If a paedophile told me Boris Johnson is the Prime Minister, I would agree it was true.

I'm bored of "OMG you agree with x on x subject, you've got cooties/you're a murderer/you stand with fascists" (not saying you have said this OP!)

Putin can say something people agree with, it's not that everyone suddenly buys into Brand Putin. In fact, back in the day, we used to argue about opinions and topics and specifics.

Judean People's Front vs People's Front of Judea gets us nowhere.

'Tragic that we have to look to the likes of Putin to point out the harm being done to children by this ideology'

It really bloody is. What a time to be alive 🙄

FlyingOink · 22/10/2021 12:24

Although if the theories are correct about Russia stoking the US Culture Wars, then his comments just put gender critical thought on the "bad homophobic meanie" side. Is that tacit support for TRAs in the US? I lose track.

There's no doubt that Russia is homophobic, and that homosexuals are having a terrible time there. But NGOs trying to force feed the public all the other letters in the soup aren't helping.

Gay men getting married affects no straight people, but transing children does. And lumping them together under a bastardised rainbow flag has a deleterious effect on a Russian gay man's ability to win over any public support.

Interesting that the pics of an earlier protest include the Bear flag too. Why is it there? Does Russia need all the flags and the Tumblr identities, when it is openly homophobic to regular, common-or-garden homosexual people?
Are they going to do puppy play at the next protest? Is it even a real protest? The mind boggles.

LizzieSiddal · 22/10/2021 12:26

Thankfully it isn’t jist Putin saying these things. It’s Millions of ordinary people plus scientists, Drs and other medical professional, MPs etc etc etc.

RedDogsBeg · 22/10/2021 12:29

Oh My God!!! Does this mean that Putin is (whispers) part of/in league with the US Christian Right???

This must be terribly upsetting for the TRAs as they seem to have looked to Putin as a blueprint for their own authoritarian tactics.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/10/2021 12:52

But... I also agree with TRAs that water is wet and the world is round. Does this prove feminists and genderists are linked?!

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 22/10/2021 12:52

He complained that 'no-one even consults child psychologists on whether a child of a certain age is able to make these kind of decisions.

It’s even worse than that Vlad, often the child psychologists support transition.

Ah, now! Careful there, as the earth is really more elliptical. It is not a perfect circle; it is slightly oval.

Facts remain facts. Irrespective of the biases of the person who utters them.

Interesting if idiotic proclamation. If Putin said people should keep their teeth healthy, would dentists (as individuals and as a profession) be hateful if their promotion of oral health corresponded with that?

user512 · 22/10/2021 13:12

It only asserts the idea that this argument is right wing and lacking humanity though sadly. We need people from the left to speak out.

Cailleach1 · 22/10/2021 13:12

Idiotic is not referring to your post @NotTerfNorCis. It refers to the original post.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/10/2021 13:26

Yes gathered that cailleach :) Good point about the world-roundness-controvesy. Best to steer clear of that in case a pedantic TRA leaps on it.

Not that TRAs are always that on the ball. I had one tell me 'adult human female' is a tautology the other day.

Putin is not right wing, Putin is Putin wing.

Who would you like to see from the Left speak out, who do you think is true Left Wing?

Scraggythang · 22/10/2021 13:32

Bloody hell! My worlds turned upside down.

Cattenberg · 22/10/2021 13:36

Not that TRAs are always that on the ball. I had one tell me 'adult human female' is a tautology the other day.

Did they explain their reasoning?

IvyTwines2 · 22/10/2021 13:37

The Right-wing is on a win-win with this. They can see gender ideology is devastating the middle-class centrist/liberal/left and actually making the centrist/liberal/left classes be the ones supporting the sort of regressive sexist stereotyping and conversion-therapy homophobia that used to be associated with the conservative and religious Right. And all a Trump or whatever has to do is say something mildly critical and the centrist/liberal/left double down and do it all the more. The Right must think all its Christmases have come at once.

Packingsoapandwater · 22/10/2021 13:43

I was waiting for this. Interesting it has come after the first female four star general announcement.

There are fascinating dynamics at play here, particularly now it has become clear this ideology has now been accepted by the Pentagon.

To be blunt, it looks to the rest of the world as though the US military has lost its mind, and the US itself is having some sort of collective breakdown.

It is going to be interesting to see what the geopolitical fallout of this is.

Deliriumoftheendless · 22/10/2021 13:48

Well this is where this “only agree with people you agree 100%” gets us, isn’t it?

I doubt many here agree with Putin’s political or even moral beliefs. But you’d be foolish to deny the earth orbits the sun simply because it was said by someone who is abhorrent to you.

What if some right wing bogey person pointed out the Earth is not flat? Do left wingers have to switch to being flat earthers to stay ideologically pure?

I’m sure there’s plenty of Tories urging people to vaccine against covid, to vaccinate their kids against measles etc. Do we admit we agree with common sense or do we have to chant anti-vax statements?

Sometimes people we don’t like, trust or respect will make statements we will agree with. The Conservatives under Cameron made same sex marriage legal. Are all married gay and lesbians in the pocket of shady right wingers? Does every left winger have to be anti-same sex marriage now?

I don’t really know much about Russia and what I do know tends to be about harmful policies that hurt women and LGBT people. I can’t support that, obviously. But are there other things I may agree with? Are there Russian doctors treating cancer patients? Are children educated?

There may be some agreement on things and some disagreement. Saying kids can’t change sex doesn’t mean I support policies that harm women.

LonginesPrime · 22/10/2021 13:58

Anyone who suggests that if I agree with a person on one issue, it means I support everything else they say and do is an idiot.

It's typical of a movement that believes that a person's thoughts determine their physical reality to fail understand that if I agree with Putin on one issue, it doesn't mean I am Putin. I'm still me, because my thoughts don't determine my material reality.

FreeBritnee · 22/10/2021 14:00

The fact that Putin is annoyed pleases me a Toby bit I’ve got to admit (even though I agree with him).
