I thought this may be of interest:

www.mpts-uk.org/hearings-and-decisions/medical-practitioners-tribunals/dr-adrian-harrop-nov-21

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that from 10 May 2018 to 23 November 2019, Dr Harrop inappropriately used his Twitter account to post tweets that were offensive and/or insulting and/or inappropriate in nature and some of which were intended to intimidate.

I suppose it depends how voluminous you want your purse to be.

Awkwardy · 17/11/2021 13:30

It's increasingly obvious that the poor chap just isn't very bright @artichokeleaves

Artichokeleaves · 17/11/2021 13:32

Flipping heck he actually IS going to go there.

His duty as a campaigner to behave like that towards women using the public influence of his position as a named doctor.

Just.... no words.

NecessaryScene · 17/11/2021 13:34

It’s a bizarre thing to put in the story, though, given that the article is clearly intended to be sympathetic to AH.

I guess it's "the witness was oversensitive due to a personal issue AH didn't know about"? Hmm (Transphobes weaponising their trauma again.)

I can imagine that sort of thing makes sense to people deep into a persecution fantasy like Hunte and Harrop.

Ekofisk · 17/11/2021 13:38

@tribunaltweets is back online and references the other Tweet thread from this morning.

GMC - AH advised to take steps at meeting re SM use. AH I don’t think I took any meaningful steps to change my use of Twitter. Thought complaint was made in bad faith. Except now it has been brought to the GMC - should have allowed himself to be brought to attention. Regretful

So Harrop admits he was told to modify his use of SM and says he ignored it because he didn’t think the complaints had any merit.

FindTheTruth · 17/11/2021 13:41

tbf it could be a lot worse

@FannyCann

AH sworn in. Confirmed statements. Now being asked GMC about when active on Twitter. Became active 2018/2018. Joined trans debate March/April 2018.

Likely there is a distinction between "having a twitter account" and "becoming active" bit I'm pretty sure AH twitter account was opened in 2013. I think I saw it on one of the screenshots out there if his twitter profile.

I believe that most Twitter users don’t use it much for a couple of years after joining, so it’s probably fair to distinguish between joining and becoming active.

A doctor on Twitter says this:

You declare in appraisal every year that you’ve read sections 56-76 of Good Medical Practice and that these articles apply to you.

Personwithrage · 17/11/2021 13:43

So is the MPTS aware that everything has been shared with the press? According to that article they've seen the whole dossier? How is that ok?

Interestingly, the feedback in Ben Hunte's Twitter is not going the way he may have hoped.

Mm, that’s a bit like declaring you’ve read the T&Cs before every online purchase though. More honoured in the breach than the observance. (Not saying that’s how it should be, but that’s the reality)

Also, as AH didn’t qualify as a GP till 2019, his first GP appraisal won’t have been till 2020, and maybe not even then, as many were postponed, due to Covid. I’m not sure whether trainees have to make the same declaration.

I wonder if he has changed his attitude since tweeting this...

Overall, he just doesn’t seem very bright & he certainly lacks awareness. His exchanges on Twitter where he calls for cis* women to be banned from women’s toilets is comedy gold.

  • I’m only using that stupid word cis because it’s what Harrop used.

I genuinely thought at first that that toilet stuff had to be some sort of hoax or performance art or ironic trolling - but it was actually the real thoughts of AH.

For a qualified doctor he appears disturbingly weak in the thinking department. Comes across as almost ... impaired?? Very odd.

I don’t know about MPTS, but witness statements to courts are usually disclosable.
But surely witness statements to the MPTS are likely to regularly include highly confidential medical information?

Disclosable to parties involved in the case is one thing, disclosable in the sense of putting confidential material in the public domain is quite another, surely?

My work routinely involves confidential witness statements, and I would expect to be taken to the cleaners and back again if I shared any part of that information with third parties without specific authorisation.

I won't even reference my involvement in named casework in a professional context unless I know that information is already in the public domain.

I don't agree. My job involves similarly detailed professional standards. I can't give you chapter and verse but I can certainly give you the key points.

I'd potentially expect dismissal for comments like his, and that's without two warnings.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 17/11/2021 14:23

I’m definitely not defending the disclosure! I’m just surprised that a trained journalist - even one as crap as Ben Hunte - would put this in print if it’s actually unlawful for AH to have passed them on.

Just as Harrop was eager to be seen as the 'go to' media doctor for all things trans, so is Ben eager to be seen as the journalistic equivalent.

Eagerness appears to have impaired judgement in both cases.
