It had to happen, didn't it? Apparently for the last three weeks TRAs have been picketing the Guardian because of its transphobia. Pink News is reporting on it:

twitter.com/PinkNews/status/1446153397133000713

I note that one of the pictures shows a placard saying 'Leave us alone'. Absolutely — and you leave us alone, eh?

I wonder what LOJ thinks? Grin

Tempdoodah · 08/10/2021 13:38

Student demo also against Kathleen Stock at the University of Sussex too, calling for her to be sacked. At least it seems the VC is condemning the move and sticking up for academic freedoms.

Meanwhile.... dinosaurs Wink

It's so funny. Why the Guardian?

Are they picketing the Times? The Telegraph? The Daily Mail? Surely by any measure these are all more "transphobic" than the Guardian.

Is it because the Guardian has tried to pander and has been seen to step out of line? Got to whip 'em back in quick smart.

Grow a spine Kath Viner.

EarthSight · 08/10/2021 18:23

What's the Guardian done now?? They seem to be losing their feminist leaning writers. Their feminist section is a joke these days....which is what these people want, yes?

Babdoc · 08/10/2021 19:29

Sorry, I’m laughing too hard to type a coherent response…

Because The Observer published an article on Sunday about Sarah Everard's murder and why women need sex-segregated spaces.

Yes, make the horrendous murder of a young woman all about how you're the real victims. That's a good look.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 08/10/2021 19:54

Some of the tweets are hilarious. If I repeated them here I'd be banned for several lifetimes, though.

LobsterNapkin · 08/10/2021 20:09

Because The Observer published an article on Sunday about Sarah Everard's murder and why women need sex-segregated spaces.

But those other papers print stuff they don't like all the time. Whereas the Guardian is typically pretty captured. So why pickett them and not the others?

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 08/10/2021 20:19

The Graun have already capitulated to the US branch's version of insanity so this is a way of adding extra pressure. I mean, it's not enough to force Suzanne Moore or to sanctify Owen of Wee, the patron saint of misogyny.

I'd guess that they either think they're a bit of a soft target and more likely to apologise on bended knee for any perceived transphobia, or they feel that the Guardian- a supposedly left wing, liberal publication- owes it to them.

Rather like how they go after women. For all that "Right wing evangelical Christian" is trotted out, RWEC is not the known acronym, TERF is. There are people out there who would wish to cause actual harm to people identifying as transgender, and they aren't GC feminists. But women are the designated support humans.

Fizzgigg · 08/10/2021 23:00

Not the first time they've protested outside that building, against The Observer. I used to work there and was heavily pregnant (almost 8 years ago) and struggled to get out past them all. Was really intimidating.

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2021 03:48

The first best thing is to tell women to stfu esp ones who are long term lefties.

The second best thing to do is to turn on those that support the cause.

Well it's up to them I suppose Hmm

WorriedWishingWell · 09/10/2021 08:10

Was this the "offending" article?
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/oct/03/which-bit-of-women-need-safe-places-dont-men-understand
TRAs demonstrating that they really don't understand.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/10/2021 08:21

The guardian has lost hundreds if women subscribers because of their very obvious agenda. They very rarely even mention the word woman. And yet they are transphobic?

Because they held an article that wasn't even about trans people?

Because shock horror there are other people on the planet and not everything is about you.
.wtf do they actually want.

See this guardian? U picked their side, you humiliated yourself in your bid to be " inclusive" akd its not enough. It will never be enough

Babdoc · 09/10/2021 08:49

Perhaps the Guardian subeditors can rearrange the following:

petard. own. by. Hoist. your.

They're ridiculous aren't they? The Guardian of all publications!
FrancescaContini · 09/10/2021 09:03

Reminded me of the characters on the League of Gentlemen…..

Fizzgigg · 09/10/2021 09:47

Yeah but there's been a marked difference over the years in terms of tone from the Guardian and The Observer. I suspect the protests are aimed at the latter, again.

Yes. That was the offending article.
MordenLarch · 09/10/2021 10:12

My first thought on seeing the picture on Twitter was “who takes a can of Stella to a morning demo?!”. I then had lots of other thoughts that can’t be printed here lest I be chastened.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 09/10/2021 10:14

Yes. That was the person on the very left of the photo.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/10/2021 10:28

Well that's cheered me up no end. it's a lovely sunny day and the TRAs are picketing the Guardian Grin The once respected paper that has too often fallen over itself to become a mouthpiece for TRAs rather than an ethical balanced source of journalism.

Nothing is ever enough for this lot. But I suppose if your stance on democracy is #nodebate, it's not surprising.

ProlesOnParole · 09/10/2021 10:33

'Crowd' doing a lot of heavy lifting in the Pink News report.

Men are good at heavy lifting, aren't they?
