Absolute disgrace. Posters on campus calling for her to be sacked. Academic colleague tweeting that he agrees with this. twitter.com/FrancescoFv37/status/1445727937660076032?t=-Di7mRf5sznFvvzww8UI2w&s=19 I saw a tweet saying there was a burning in effigy. Can't confirm this but nothing would surprise me now. Time for Sussex staff, students and alumni to put their heads over the parapet.

I’m an alumni. Sussex has always had this idea of itself as being anti-establishment and edgy (while being populated by pretty wealthy, middle class students because Brighton ain’t cheap). Not surprising it’s being this reactionary - I hope the administration and union stand with her.

Do Universities have a PREVENT duty or not?

Delurking to say I've also reported that Instagram account. You can report on several different criteria. I went for bullying and harassment, but hate speech is possible too.

I know posters must be fed up to the back teeth of me posting this but here we go again;
The Equality Act makes victimising or harassing someone based on their protected characteristic a specific offence.
Its also an offence to create a hostile environment, or induce someone else to break equality laws.

Kathleen - if you need to start a legal fund to fight this, I’m right behind you and will contribute. This targetted harrassment and abuse must not stand. Enough!

Never fed up of information that highlights the seriousness of 'a few men/students/weirdoes' acting illegally.

None of that legislation says "unless the victim is female"

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2021 12:21

Or, conversely, "Unless the perpetrator is trans/trans ally"

Where is the EHRC? They have a statutory duty to deal with breaches of the Equality Act and have been given the powers to do so!
Why is it being left up to women to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for legal fees, and fight endless court cases?

And to "promote good relations between different groups"...

@Eucalyptustrees

I've reported that Instagram account for targetted harassment

Me too. The anonymous 'mission statement' is chilling.

Meaningless waffle unless backed up with swift and decisive action against the bullies, alongside looking after Professor Stock (security, apologies, reassurance etc).

I've left a message on the Vice Chancellors ansaphone. Probably not going to help much but it calmed my rage and may hopefully make them aware of the strength of feeling about this atrocious bulling by students and that member of staff.

Jesus. How can this be going on at the same time as the handwringing about male violence plastered from one end of the net to the other and all over the TV and radio.

On a daily, almost hourly basis.

This IS violence against women.

Kathleen Stock is feeling the worst of it and has for some time, but the intimidation of gender critical academics is happening in many universities, in this country and elsewhere.

100% this.

I went from 1997-2000 and it was absolutely packed to the rafters with hypocritical trustafarians then and it doesn't sounds like it's changed at all.

Lucy Masoud has tweeted:

I am calling the Vice-chancellor of *@SussexUni*
to ask why any woman would want to study there when they refuse to stop their students threatening & harassing a lesbian academic

I will of course be polite but firm. I encourage others to call

I called. No one answering the VC's phone but I've left a message.

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Snake? What's with the fucking snake?

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The lack of self awareness has always been nigh on total.

I'm not on Twitter, stuck in the your password is incorrect loop of doom. Can someone do the unroll thing and actually email or post a hard copy to the Dean. I think@UniSussex just goes to the Wokey Blokey who fuel this crap in the first place!

The snake is a clear reference to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag, and given its association with libertarians ("don't tread on me", small government, independence, etc.) it's ironic to see it being used along with the appeal to authority: "WAAAHHHH, FIRE HER!"

I don’t think GC women are regarded as women worthy of protection.

Not that any women really are tbh - but they don’t have to pretend to give a shit about us.
